So worried about my dd8

WaffleDogg20 · 10/11/2024 11:41

DD8 has been poorly for the last month and I’m starting to worry.

started off with a fever that wouldn’t go away, she was complaining that she hurt everywhere and her head hurt. She was sleeping practically 22 hours a day. She ended up having a week and half off school. She developed a cough, not a consistent one but one that still hasn’t shifted.

she is barely eating, refusing even chicken nuggets. Or if she does it it’s a few bites then she’s full. This is not like her, she has always been “big” but she has lost a significant amount of weight the last few weeks. Even to the point she has Halloween sweets etc she hasn’t touched which isn’t like her lol. She was even too poorly for Halloween and spent the whole time sleeping.

shes very pale and has dark circles around her eyes.

she has always been prone to nose bleeds but they are very frequent atm and extremely heavy which they are normally not.

she’s gone to a horse show today with her dad and he’s messaged me saying he’s worried about her as she seems weak and is saying she doesn’t feel well. She asked for a doughnut and had one bite and didn’t want anymore.

iv noticed a few bruises on her legs lately too :(

You need to go to the doctors. Have you been yet?

WaffleDogg20 · 10/11/2024 11:45

No, I’m going to make an appointment tomorrow. The doctors around here are absolutely horrific to get an appointment :(

OP posts:
OnlyWhenILaugh · 10/11/2024 11:47

Call 111 today
They will advise.

OnlyWhenILaugh · 10/11/2024 11:48

111 can also book out of hours Dr if they think it's required. And notes will go to your GP.

WaffleDogg20 · 10/11/2024 11:51

Thank you! Will do, iv just put a photo side by side from today and two weeks ago and it’s horrific the weight loss and her sunken eyes

Hope she's ok, 111 have always been fantastic when I've called them

violetcuriosity · 10/11/2024 12:22

Honestly, if it was my daughter I would be at A&E today. Hope she's ok xxxxx

Gottoshare · 10/11/2024 12:24

Go to a and e it could be type 1 diabetes

Lougle · 10/11/2024 12:27

If she looks poorly as well as feeling poorly, you really do need to get her seen and waiting for a GP appointment isn't appropriate.

Soñando25 · 10/11/2024 12:28

I would be worried too and think that calling 111 as suggested is a good idea. She's clearly had a very nasty virus, so this could be something related to that virus hopefully, but if it's something more serious, then the sooner it's treated the better. Wishing you all the very best.

Shiningout · 10/11/2024 13:00

You must get her to see a doctor op. It looks like this has been going on for a while have you not contacted anyone about this? A child should not be losing that much weight, or be that weak and tired, and have sunken eyes. She's clearly unwell and no one on here can advise aside from get her seen.

Growsomeballswoman · 10/11/2024 13:03

I know what you are worrying about OP without saying it. I'd see if 111 can refer you to paediatrics for a blood test. That will be a start

Ladyj84 · 10/11/2024 13:24

I can never imagine leaving my child ill for a few days and not visiting a doctor that's just odd

Ellerby83 · 10/11/2024 13:31

I would be very worried too. Phone 111 or go to A & E

If you want to help the child in question offer advice not criticism right now.
The chances are it's not serious but it's important that she is seen urgently to be sure.
The OP has clearly worked out the potentially serious implications and has sought advice. Hopefully she's acting upon that.

normanprice62 · 10/11/2024 13:33

Honestly with what you've described I'd be taking her to a&e today.

Barryplopper · 10/11/2024 13:38

Why has it taken so long for you to seek advice op? Halloween was 10 days ago...sleeping 22 hours a day is, as you know, not normal! I hope she's OK, I'd take her to A and E...she sounds very poorly x

WaffleDogg20 · 10/11/2024 13:55

Because I thought she had a virus/flu and it was just taking her a while to get over it but actually seeing a photo of her today made me realise how poorly she is. Iv been working away for quite awhile so iv been relying on what my husband has been telling me :(

WaffleDogg20 · 10/11/2024 13:56

im ringing 111 today but DH is going to take her a&e, im away with work until Wednesday and they are at a horse show 90 mins from home.

Baseline14 · 10/11/2024 14:07

I'm a nurse and if that was my kid I'd be taking her to A&E today. Very unlikely a doctor would send her home without some bloods with the symptoms described.

lifeisacat · 10/11/2024 14:21

Husband has cancer, was poorly for a while before being dx'ed. Definitely say A&E, they can do bloods. Ensure DH knows everything you put here.

DeliciousApples · 10/11/2024 18:56

I'd be phoning nhs 24 and let them decide how urgently she needs seen.

Poor wee soul.

Honestly, you shouldn't have left it this long. You should have taken her after a fortnight. Poor kid.

LittleSparklyStar · 10/11/2024 22:00

You need to get emergency treatment now. A and e or at least 111.

fluffyblanky · 10/11/2024 22:11

This cannot be real, surely?

yawn25 · 10/11/2024 22:13

A&E ASAP
