Hate directed at Childfree influencers

Has anyone else noticed the huge amount of hate Childfree influencers, especially women get?

I really couldn’t care less about influencers in general, however a few videos do pop up when I’m scrolling and contain Childfree content. I’ve scrolled quite a few of the comments on different accounts and it’s staggering the amount of hate they get for daring to speak out about their Childfree lives.

Example
Account childfreemilleninial on Instagram- comments the first comment include “entire personality and social media is about being childfree, it’s like she’s seeking validation.” Then goes onto say she probably deep down really wants kids but can’t due to fertility issues. A man with a public account actually posted this. Then other comments from men and women basically bashing Childfree people saying they’ll get depression later on in life as they’ll have no family, having children should be held higher, having children is an accomplishment and there is zero pride in being Childless. Also comments much worse than this.

The fact these people are actually posting these comments publicly on an account that is all about being Childfree is staggering. Why do these people care? Are they just jealous and regret their own choices to have children? I don’t understand why they are so hateful?

Also interesting to see that influencers who are Childfree men (especially those with cats) also get way less hate.

It's a load of spiteful people with children who are exhausted, skint and jealous.

TY78910 · 13/05/2025 22:58

I could apply the same question to a lot of posters on this forum relating to this and any other topic really. Guess people find it entertaining, obviously at the expense of others.

musixa · 14/05/2025 07:15

Like you, I don't follow influencers, but this entire personality and social media is about being childfree - if you substitute xxxxxx other thing for 'childfree' is surely true of all influencers. They all build a brand based on a particular quality or aspect of their life. So the person commenting is an idiot.

Are they just jealous and regret their own choices to have children?

I suspect it's either this, or sheer misogyny from the point of view that women have no function other than to produce children; how dare they not do what they were put on this earth for.

I've seen a lot of bitter comments here about how much 'free time' the childfree have. Leaving aside the point that being childfree doesn't necessarily mean being devoid of caring responsibilities to others (e.g. elderly parents) it baffles me that people have taken the decision to have children, chosen to have them in their lives, but talk as though it's an imposition that the childfree have escaped through sheer good fortune. No - we had the same choice as you, but chose differently.

I smiled at the comment about all her social media is about being childfree, how many people with DC post endlessly about them.

JudgeBread · 14/05/2025 11:30

Honestly I think any influencer who has a "thing" is going to get some losers coming to their SM to specifically tell them how bad of a person they are for making their entire personality about being child free/having children/liking makeup/having cats/making Peruvian socks. Especially female influencers. No matter what you do you'll get criticised for it.

Ultimately, if you put your life online you're going to get criticised for it by someone who thinks you should be doing X instead of Y.

Influencers deserve all they get, frankly. Utterly pointless people who should get proper jobs.

There is clearly a market for them - so it is a job. You may not consume the media, but a lot of people do therefore creating content is just as valid of a job as acting or video editing.

There is a market among the gullible and not too bright. Maybe they should be protected. They don’t realise these parasites get paid for mentioning dodgy products.

You think some people deserve to be bullied because of their job?

If you watch literally any female content on literally any platform, comments are full of hatred. Online misogyny is everywhere. I watch a lot of food/running/fitness content and every single woman's comments are full of hate. Their male partners (typically also in the same field) repeatedly point out that they get less.

It's not child-free, it's publicly speaking as a woman.

I agree. So many mummy influencers out there now too. Exploiting your children for five mins of fame and money is a massive red flag for me. I wonder how many Childfree people are writing hateful comments under the yummy mummy crew questioning their lifestyle choices. Can you imagine the outrage.

You’ve hit the nail on the head with this reply 👏🏼
Also agree with the free time comment. Some also can’t understand that we might also be tired or busy. The whole “you don’t know what being tired is like until you have kids.” Erm, yes I do. Parents don’t get a monopoly on who is tired. It isn’t a competition. I find it bizarre so many people have an issue with something that has no effect on their life.

I agree with you 100%. It’s sad and very scary to see. And men wonder why there is a male loneliness epidemic? I find when women talk about being lonely it is usually seen as something the woman has done to herself, like it’s her fault due to her actions. But with male loneliness the blame yet again has been shifted to women. It must be women’s fault this has happened.

My original post was about Childfree women getting hate but also agree it’s all women.

I don't understand influencers full stop tbh. If you're happily child free I'm happy for you, but I don't need to see endless videos about it. The same goes for anyone happily living with children, or in any other legally accepted situation.

Because that poster was talking about parents who make hateful comments on social media to childfree influencers and you've defended yourself against that judgement.

Eh?

It’s not that difficult a concept. She was speaking very specifically of parents who abuse childfree influencers, not of parents generally, so why would you bother to reply when it wasn’t aimed at you unless you do in fact abuse childfree influencers, which I suspect that you don’t.

It’s like if I said that I hate people who let their dogs defecate everywhere without picking it up and say that they’re slovenly and lazy and have no consideration for others and you said I have a dog. I’m not slovenly, inconsiderate and lazy. You’d be missing the point because the insult is aimed at dog owners who don’t pick up after their dogs and not dog owners generally. So unless you do behave like that then you are automatically exempt from the criticism which does not apply to you and other considerate dog owners.
