Hello everyone

Welcome to the first thread of our new board.

@BodegaSushi MN is asking for feedback in the Board title thread. My preference would be “childless/childfree MNetters”.

musixa · 07/06/2023 18:40

Yay! What great news to come home to today! I'm glad a name has been found that includes everyone whose life is without children, whether by choice or not.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 07/06/2023 18:41

Huge thanks to you too @musixa!

Florissante · 07/06/2023 18:49

Florissante · 07/06/2023 18:15

Oh, phooey. I liked the old title. Still, it's a board for posters without children and that's what counts in the old.

Old? Long-term.

Agreed.

Does anybody want to share why they joined mn ?

I joined after my DH died suddenly and unexpectedly. I couldn’t sleep and needed company and distraction in the middle of the night. PenisBeaker got me through some dark times!

Indigodreaming · 07/06/2023 19:41

HeiXiong · 07/06/2023 16:29

Could we try and be more inclusive of all posters without children please?
the thread requesting this board made it clear we wanted a space for childfree AND childless MN to share experiences on life without children

Wasnt this raised on the request thread? about the name and in the inference of "childfree" being a choice ...

I could be wrong - there's a first time for everything - but posters are not required to post on threads or boards whose premise they don't like.

This is a dick post. Wasn’t that the whole argument being made by people who were against this board?

barnefri · 07/06/2023 21:15

Penisbeaker is what first brought me to mumsnet, and then I mostly loitered without posting for a really long time, not least because being childfree I wasn’t sure I was welcome.

This new board is such a lovely new thing. I’m glad to be here. Thank you MNHQ!

hilariousnamehere · 07/06/2023 22:02

Well this is exciting!

illiad · 07/06/2023 22:19

I originally found mumsnet about a decade ago when looking for 5:2 forums. I stayed for the conception boards, then the infertility boards throughout my IVF and miscarriage.

lemonchiffonpie · 08/06/2023 00:28

Oh, Jeez. I though MumsNot was great. Childfree Mumsnet Posters is less inclusive, if anything. How did two people complaining manage to do this?

lemonchiffonpie · 08/06/2023 00:32

*Childfree Mumsnetters, that should say.

FufferPish · 08/06/2023 06:50

Lemonchiffonpie I agree, MumsNot was so much better, how is a less-inclusive name better? @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet Is it possible to revert it and make the subtitle or explanation "for childfree/less women"? I thought the new name is the result of a misunderstanding!

ScottBakula · 08/06/2023 07:05

I think we can't all play nicely with our new thread MN will take it off us.

Members of the Board, I have Concerns.

When this idea of this board was being discussed, we were told that it would result in incels and anti-natalists descending upon MN.

Checks watch

It's been almost 24 hours since this board was created and our visitors have yet to arrive. Do you think they got lost? Did they fail to synchronise their satnavs? Have they been waylaid by those wily posters on the Chicken Keeping thread? Or perhaps they have discovered their spiritual home, AIBU?

I am considering sending up a flare to let them know where we are.

No. We can have our board but we're not allowed to have our name because Reasons. (Those reasons can be found in the original discussion and a thread that was created to complain about the name MumsNot, which I thought brilliant.)

ScottBakula · 08/06/2023 12:05

@Florissante we need someone that is working in a high office block to wave flag out of the window at they can all see us.

>>>puts tin hat on<<<
I agee with you MumsNot was a good name

RavenclawLuna · 08/06/2023 12:21

@ScottBakula @Florissante I agree MumsNot was a better name. I don't understand how childfree is more inclusive 🫣. prepares to batten down the hatches

Ihateboris · 08/06/2023 12:23

Oooo...how exciting
...count me in!

fitzwilliamdarcy · 08/06/2023 12:42

V odd that incels don’t want to talk about LPAs and adult museum offerings.

HangingOver · 08/06/2023 12:43

I'm glad this board exists. Everyone around me is having children atm and although I know it's not for us, I can't help out feel a bit left out and panicky... Like... I feel like the odd one out

Oh, man. If I said what I was thinking about that particular issue I would be banned for life and if I had children, they'd be banned, too, unto generations. 😀

I feel this. With some women having kids later, this phase also seems to go on forever - I’ve been losing friends to babyhood and childrearing for 10 years already, and I don’t anticipate it stopping for another 5.
