Hello everyone

Welcome to the first thread of our new board.

OP posts:
fitzwilliamdarcy · 07/06/2023 15:29

@Peacepudding Not at all. The first 'proper' thread is about LPAs!

AcrossthePond55 · 07/06/2023 15:36

I think this is great! I'm an 'empty nester' with a childfree DS and DiL and I think there will be plenty here to interest me.

To paraphrase Walt Disney' “To all that come to this happy place, welcome. This section is your section.... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world".

Happy posting everybody!!

Awaiting some derision from parents about the name, I have to say.

hardly innocuous

Quite.

ScottBakula · 07/06/2023 15:46

Oooh we have upgraded to a capital N , thank you @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet .

I am child free by choice but joined mn on a recommendation when my DH died and I needed somewhere that a could scream at the world and say things on here that I could not say irl.
I hot a tremendous amount of good advice and virtual hugs .
I made some virtual friends so stuck around and you can't get rid of me now😃

afaloren · 07/06/2023 15:52

Glad to be here!

MumSnotQueen · 07/06/2023 15:59

Ooh there's already a first fight/bickering in the Queendom!

MumSnotQueen · 07/06/2023 15:59

The tone is set indeed. We know how we do, us women.

RavenclawLuna · 07/06/2023 16:03

Oh lord, some people would argue with a broomstick. Please move on so we can have a pleasant time in MumsNot Hmm

Agreed.

Does anybody want to share why they joined mn ?

RavenclawLuna · 07/06/2023 16:11

@ScottBakula I will!

I joined when searching for help on health. Mumsnet came up. I was dubious but have found on the whole Mumsnet can be a nice place. AIBU is nice sometimes too where I like to offer positive perspectives instead of tearing people apart.

Anyone else?

HeiXiong · 07/06/2023 16:14

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 07/06/2023 14:00

Arrrgh how did I not see the snot.

Any chance the title could be modified - we really wanted a board that was inclusive of all mumsnetters without children.

I’m not sure MumsNot - clearly marked as “for childfree posters” and punning on the lack of being a mum, is especially welcoming to those living their lives without children, not by choice.

polkadotdalmation · 07/06/2023 16:24

I'm not a snotty mum so won't post again but just to say this is a great idea and good luck with it. I neither pity nor envy child free couples so I'm pleased you have a section to yourselves. I do hate you all for having the ability to have a weekend lie in! 😂

Decaffe · 07/06/2023 16:25

Not sure if @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet will see this, but as I posted on the other thread, NOT A MUM really isn’t the vibe we were hoping for. Please could we change it to Childfree Mumsnetters?

Could we try and be more inclusive of all posters without children please?
the thread requesting this board made it clear we wanted a space for childfree AND childless MN to share experiences on life without children

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/06/2023 16:29

Yay!

How exciting is this?!!?!!?

RavenclawLuna · 07/06/2023 16:32

@HeiXiong I don't understand your beef. MumsNot is inclusive. Sounds like you just want to moan.

FufferPish · 07/06/2023 16:34

Happy to be on the shiny new board! I joined in 2016 when I was looking up people's comments on nice commutable places to live near London for just me and my pets.

ScottBakula · 07/06/2023 16:38

@RavenclawLuna , thank you for sharing .
On the whole
MN I agree is a friendly and helpful place and when the hive mind gets going it's amazing .

Some people will find a reason to complain and be nasty for no real reason.

Azealeasinbloom · 07/06/2023 16:38

afternoon all! To answer a question upthread, I found Mumsnet when looking for some advice on an issue with my elderly MIL. Every time I googled a question about the topic, there was at least one reference to a MN thread.
I stayed because the advice I got on the Elderly Parents thread was spot on, and since then I have had a lot of laughs , and a few tears, at some of the posts I read.
A lot of posters are just so quick witted at times, it’s entertaining.

HeiXiong · 07/06/2023 16:40

RavenclawLuna · 07/06/2023 16:32

@HeiXiong I don't understand your beef. MumsNot is inclusive. Sounds like you just want to moan.

I don’t think that Women who have lost their babies and are adjusting to life without children would feel especially welcome to post on a board that specifically defines women by NOT being mums and states it’s only for childFree posters.

most women’s adjusting to life after the loss of a child or infertility don’t identify with being ‘free’ of children and the MumsNot pun is a kick in the teeth.

several have already said so on the site stuff thread

you’re obviously free simply to write off childless MNetters as ‘moaners’

its not exactly the welcoming inclusive spirit we were aiming for though

MumSnotQueen · 07/06/2023 16:42

I agree with @HeiXiong

You want inclusive, MumsNot isn't exactly including those who aren't celebrating being child free.

You think asking to include childless posters who campaigned for this board and who have said they find the title hurtful is “mean”

okey doke.

FatCatBum · 07/06/2023 16:43

Woo hoo!

Where did you conclude was best? I’m still searching for the magical mix of nice place to live that is also commutable
