Hello everyone

Welcome to the first thread of our new board.

You’re proving my point. Everyone has different opinions and interpretations. Yours, in my opinion, are way off the mark. But it’s your opinion. It doesn’t mean it’s right though, just different. Others who have lost children also have different opinions to you on the meaning.

Ok.

HeiXiong · 07/06/2023 17:49

Coukd you link to any posts from those who have lost children who are supportive of the title @BodegaSushi ?

there are several who are hurt by it on the site stuff thread. So I guess there are a number of us whose opinions are way off the mark.

according to you at least

I honestly don’t understand why it’s so tricky for some folk just to be decent.

why not support the change to “Mumsnetters without children”
is sniggering at a cruel pun really more important to you? 🤷‍♀️

fitzwilliamdarcy · 07/06/2023 17:50

Does anybody want to share why they joined mn ?

Screamed at the Michelangelo.

Lottapianos · 07/06/2023 17:50

Yay! So glad we have our own space here. Good work everyone 👍

sammylady37 · 07/06/2023 17:51

I’m cautiously optimistic about this board working out. I have some concerns that I posted on the other thread, about us childfree posters being directed back to our own corner if we dare venture from it, but it remains to be seen if that happens.

I knew about mumsnet from various threads picked up by the media, and came here myself for advice back in 2016 when going on a blind date. Have been a regular user since, though go through stages of lurking vs posting.

PriamFarrl · 07/06/2023 17:51

I came here when ttc. Then through IVF. Then through my miscarriage.

I stuck around as I liked a female focussed corner of the internet.

I don’t mind the name.

BridgetRandomfuck · 07/06/2023 17:51

Oh wow, it’s here! I hope the experiment goes well 😁.

I came to MN over ten years ago when someone on another forum recommended AIBU as a place to read some fun feisty threads, I have to say I wasn’t disappointed! I was on the fence about children then, and have since decided not to have any, but I enjoy the volume of chat and the wide range of topics, s I’ve stayed. I’ll be interested to see how this section develops…

I'm going to stop interacting with you now because you're determined for a fight and I want to enjoy the thread.

😂

I learned about this long after but was amused to learn that it's a real condition. You learn something everyday.

Not quite the same, but my mum says she has an incredible urge to throw her phone or bag into a hole or river or off a cliff whenever she's up looking down on one. Apparently that's also a thing. Bizarre.

I remember reading that thread out to my mate in a pub, she was on the floor 😂

I get the urge to throw myself of the edge of a cliff when I am near one. I'm not suicidal at all but its like a wierd compulsion. I don't get it with other heights like bridges etc. Its like my body truely believes I would be able to fly or something. Very wierd

I have that same feeling whenever I'm up somewhere high. Apparently, it's pretty common to have that urge, as illogical as it is.

Fair enough. Perhaps you want to pop over the bereaved parents section and tell them how they should feel about this board excluding and mocking them

I think it's a sign we are not descended from apes but from penguins. We both think we should fly but we are more use in the water than the air.

Would explain my layer of fat to keep me warm in the cold and penchant for falling on my bum on the ice

@Catchasingmewithspiders I’m sure there are scientists who reckon our fear of sharks comes from when we used to live in the water before we evolved onto land.

I’m pretty sure it’s that they’re designed to be absolutely fucking terrifying but that’s just me!

Yeah I'm thinking "My grandma what big teeth you have" has more to do with our fear of sharks

fitzwilliamdarcy · 07/06/2023 18:14

@HeiXiong It’s been changed now. I’m very sorry that it upset you.

Florissante · 07/06/2023 18:15

Oh, phooey. I liked the old title. Still, it's a board for posters without children and that's what counts in the old.

It’s so frustrating - there’s a massive thread on site stuff with plenty of well reasoned posts for an inclusive shared board where childless and childfree posters are welcome.

i don’t understand why they’d just disregard that

I suspect they want distinction between this and the existing infertility board but I agree that we need to start off in the right way. This board came about because of feeling excluded and for me, I don’t want this board to do the same thing. I’m both childfree and childless and there’s both overlap and distinction there.

BodegaSushi · 07/06/2023 18:33

So then childless/childfree? Because just 'childless' hurts more, in my opinion.
