CM's Do you get dressed before mindees arrive?

I'm just curious really.

My CM greets us most mornings (8.50am) still in her dressing gown, usually just getting out of or going into the shower.

I was a bit at first but put it down to her being in her own home and getting ready at her leisure.

I feel its a bit unprofessional but in the grand scheme of things it is harmless.

If her DH isn't registered and it wasn't a genuine emergency, like her head fell off or something - then put that into your complaint too. This gets worse and worse

JennyPenny23 · 29/04/2010 21:38

She sounds like a CM I know very well and its sad that it does happen, and then real guinuine CMs are often struggling to work.

If it was just that she was in her PJs then it wouldn't bother me too much if she was just running up to shove some clothes on. But not leaving the children unattended while she has a shower and definatly not going out altogether!

lollipopmother · 30/04/2010 11:47

Oh dear Lord, I can't believe that at all, leaving DH to look after her mindees is disgusting and should be reported to Ofsted at least I am sure??

JennyPenny23 · 30/04/2010 14:48

ANother thought. Do they have naps? Maybe she showers while they sleep? Sometimes I shower when DDs are asleep in the day if we don't go out in the morning?

atworknotworking · 30/04/2010 17:52

Even if the mindees are asleep, you are required to be within sight or sound at all times, I doubt very much you could do this and be in the shower .

JennyPenny23 · 30/04/2010 19:07

Good point atnotworking. Wasn't saying it was acceptable for a CM, just meant its not quite as bad. Although I agree, still shouldn't be done. Although I do bring the baby monitor in the bathroom with me, so I can hear my DDs which she could do (although doesn't sound like it). Still wouldn't do this with other peoples children around though!

SimpleAsABC · 01/05/2010 13:16

I agree that it seems the kind of thing that could happen as a one of, much like any kind of job, however as she's making a habit of it i'd not be impressed!

hi, i am really shocked at wat im reading,as a childminder myself, i would never dream of bein unshowered or not fressed, wen my families came, at 8.50 i think this is discustin that the cm was not dressed, i have never read or replyed to a message b4, just landed on this and the topic caught my eye!!! but after readin it i was so shocked, that i sat and read all the replies, that i decided to add my reply, i agree with most replies i would deffo not give a reference, just put in the letter facts eg dates times,i would not let her look good in any comments u made, and as 4 her gettin satisfactory, personally i think she should of got inadequate,,as she obviously is, i wonder if she ever is in the showeer wen ofsted come out,she deffo needs reportin, and then maybe u should put all ur concerns in the letter to ofsted, i would never expect my families to walk in to my home in the dark and wait till i come out the shower, glad to hear u have got out of their,it will make u weary about leavin ur child again, as this kind of thing gives us good cm a bad name, but we r not all that bad, most of us put our families first, have respect for them and throughout our day r very proffessional, i personally r always ready at least half hour b4 my 1st child arrives, with all the toys/activities out ready, we all have 1 off days, but this clearly isnot a one off, its unproffesional, i could not imagine leavin the children to go in the shower, or not even be in wen the parent arives to collect the child, please report this unproffesionalism, and deffo dont recomend her to any one else, and good luck xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/05/2010 20:23

cant beleive she didnt say bye to you on your lastday and left charges with her dh

who i assume isnt registered?

PickUpYourPants · 01/05/2010 20:55

Please report her she is a disaster waiting to happen and you don't want/need that on your conscience.
Also when other parents are choosing a child minder it is the report and references that they will use to make their choice.

Tanith · 02/05/2010 11:44

I agree that what this childminder is doing sounds all wrong and she ought to be reported.

However, I've been in bed before when the earliest parents arrived at 7. DH is fully registered and I was bf'ing my baby while he let them in. They never said anything, but I hope they weren't muttering under their breath about it!
I'd hate to think that parents and other childminders regarded this as unprofessional behaviour.

vicki2010 · 04/05/2010 13:10

Im a childminder and my earliest drop off is at 7.30...i think its is completely reasonable to be expected to be dressed and ready for 'work'....childminders like this give professionals like me a bad name,i mean you just wouldnt go to the office like it so whats different to taking someone elses child you are being paid to look after?? sort it out my dear!! and no i wouldnt give her a reference!!!!

atworknotworking · 04/05/2010 15:07

Tanith I think your situation was totally different, your DH is registered and can have sole charge of mindees whether you are their or not, your parents chose you both as minders to look after their children.

This bozo's DH isn't registered and sounds like a right numpty. I also am surprised that she wasnt their for your last pick up, after all the complaining about you going as well, wonder if she has seen this thread and is feeling too guilty.

thebody · 05/05/2010 18:24

just tripped across this one and cant belive it.. not dressed.. lazy cow...

I am up at 7, dressed, showered, make up and hair done.. The house is clean and risk assessments done.. toilets and sinks clean and all ship shape.. I am waiting for my important clients to arrive(mindees) and I am showing them a good example... what a strange woman...
