SugaryTits · 06/01/2009 20:12

I am in the process of registering with a couple of babysitting agencies and they require me to put in my hourly rate- I have no idea what this should be! I am in the greater london/surrey area... any ideas what the going rate is? TIA

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I charge £7-50 per hour personally... it varies usually, starting from £8 but i know lots go up to £10 an hour tho.
Where are you based? im in SW11 and work as a nanny in Sw19 and am looking for babysitting work!

BlameItOnTheBogey · 06/01/2009 20:51

I pay 8 pounds an hour in London

SugaryTits · 06/01/2009 20:54

Thank you!

I am near Kingston... I am looking for babysitting work myself, not looking for a babysitter MissGT! The chance would be a fine thing!

I remember the days when £10 for the whole evening was adequate for a babysitter!!! lol

MissGT · 06/01/2009 21:03

i remember when i was 14 in New Zealand and i got $20 for 48 hours... about £5! and that was only a few years ago! okay, 13!

PS Cheers SugaryTits!

eeyore12 · 06/01/2009 21:25

I live near Kingston and am reg with a couple of agencies for baby sitting work and the norm seems to be £8 a hour

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/01/2009 22:40

£10 per hour and min of 4 hrs even if they come back/use me for 2 they still pay £40

and yes i get tons of work as well

but i have 17years sc qualified experience

PaulaatMummyKnowsBest · 07/01/2009 09:28

there is a babysitting thread on here somewhere with lots of peoples fees listed.

Maybe have a look through that.

I have 16 years experience and I too charge £10 per hour (min of 3 hours).

AtheneNoctua · 07/01/2009 20:18

Why would I pay £10/hour when I can call sitters.co.uk for £5.35 per hour plus £4 booking fee. I am, incidentally, very close to Kingston. I'd say £7 or £8 with a 4 hour minimum would be okay. But, still, I could get someone for less.

I have paid more when in a pinch. But, wouldn't do it as a matter of routine.

Sullwah · 07/01/2009 20:48

I used sitters this weekend when my usual £10 an hour babysitter let me down at 1pm on the day. They sent a fab babysitter over for £5.85 an hour.

Absolutely brilliant - last time I pay £10 an hour!

RachieB · 07/01/2009 23:04

i used to use sitters a few yrs ago ,and they were fab!
my youngest son would be in bed, and my eldest thought it great having someone new to look after him / play games with him before bed!

not so great to work FOR though i guess,as rates are low!

I charge £6 - 7 an hour for babysitting, though am in south wales

SugaryTits · 08/01/2009 11:10

I have decided to charge 5.50 an hour for the time being and see how it goes! Thanks everyone.

That is very resonable.

SugaryTits · 08/01/2009 12:17

Thanks Athene, let me know if you ever need a sitter!

true athene - but as there are many parents in my area who are happy and can afford to and do pay £10, why would i babysit for £5.35 - ie earning £21.40 instead of £40 - basically half of what i would normally earn?

lindseyfox · 08/01/2009 14:40

I charge £10 an hr in east midlands and am a qualified childrens nurse with lots of experience. My babysitting work tends to be with young babies and parents seem to like the sercurity of my experience and quals. Although I do sit for older children also.

ben5 · 08/01/2009 14:43

it's about £5 an hour in plymouth. i remember babysitting for £10 a night and a packet of biscuits!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2009 14:46

ditto lindsey - i often have very young babies, some from 6 weeks old and parents are wanting someone with years of exp - though averagly children are between one and eight

i see both points of view, parents obv want to pay less, so that they can afford to go out,but i dont know many nannies who use sitters as such terrible rates of pay - its basically min wage for unsociable/late hours

Alipop · 08/01/2009 18:50

I suppose when i was 15-16 i would babysit for £10 for the whole night, but i had my mum a few doors away who i could call on if needed and parents were happy to use friends daughters/sons to babysit kids. It seems nowadays people want qualified/experienced sitters which obviously come at a price - but at the rates about it would have to be a special night to warrent the spend. My current babysitter charges £5 per hour per child, but she brings her own son with her and often does college work too, and i usually give her money for a pizza or something too - so a dear doo all round and a i think a good deal for her as both my children in bed and she'd be looking after her own child anyway! She's lovely though and i trust her so thats what counts.

PaulaatMummyKnowsBest · 08/01/2009 18:51

I too have a lot of very small babies, some have been as young as 5 days old.

You can't leave tiny babies with just anyone!

Because I work as a maternity nanny and ad hoc nanny, those are the families that then tend to use my babysitting service.

RachieB · 08/01/2009 21:01

i dont know of anyone charging per hour per CHILD!

thats mad

AND you feed her / allow her to bring her own child

shes not daft is she ? lol

Alipop · 08/01/2009 21:43

No, but she's good and reliable, I just have to watch how long im out - maybe im too soft!!!
