Am I missing something here - what are the children whom you are meant to be minding doing while you are on the Internet??

Because I would be livid if I was paying you to mind my child and you were Mumsnetting.

Actually without jumping to conclusions...I use this forum as a place to get fantastic information and support. I only childmind on a Tuesday 3-5 at the momeht, and would never go online whilst I was childminding...how on earth could you?

chopchopbusybusy · 12/11/2008 19:13

Eeerm, I assume childminders have some days off/free time too...

stirfry · 12/11/2008 19:14

Watching telly, eating cheesy wotsits and drinking fruitshoots of course.

fivecandles · 12/11/2008 19:16

OK, good for you but there are plenty of comments on other threads which show that there are childminders at work (i.e. minding children)and on here. As in, 'Got to go cos x child is crying etc'. Don't really get how that is acceptable.

Yeah, but other people's kids is really boring, innit.

Who is childminding at 7:11 on a Wednesday evening?

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 19:18

maybe they come on while their mindees are asleep? that's what I do with my kids.

then if they cry I go.

aGalChangedHerName · 12/11/2008 19:18

Yawn Yawn Yawn.......

Mindees sometimes go to nursery and even go to sleep

I happily ignore my own dc to fritter time away and stay off when i am working!!!

spicemonster · 12/11/2008 19:18

Do you never go on the net when your children are at home?

posieflump · 12/11/2008 19:19

god loads of people mumsnet whilst at work
loads of parents mumsnet whilst looking after their dcs
it's quite possible to pop in and out on here without causing neglect

flowerybeanbag · 12/11/2008 19:19

Why don't you challenge those particular individuals you feel are MNing while childminding on those actual threads?

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 12/11/2008 19:19

lol @ "happily ignore my own children"

fivecandles · 12/11/2008 19:20

Like I said, I would not be happy if it was my kids whom I was paying to be minded. Regardless of whether they were asleep or not. If you're paid to do a job esp such an important one I think you should do it.

Soundproof room and a webcam.

hullygully · 12/11/2008 19:22

Hunt them down like dogs and KILL them. It's the only way they'll learn.

spicemonster · 12/11/2008 19:22

Oh well, I guess we're all different. I pay my CM to look after my DS and I know she goes on the net during the day because she's been trying to sort out the stupid childcare vouchers for me.

And I wouldn't care if she were MNing or reading The Sun online. My boss doesn't expect me to work a 10 hour day without a break and I don't expect her to either.

fivecandles · 12/11/2008 19:22

I think you'll find that using the Internet for personal reasons whilst at work is a sackable offense and rightly so. Do the parents whose kids are being minded know that this is how you spend your time? If it was my kids I'd whip them out straight away.

"Regardless of whether they were asleep or not. "

So what you would want your CM to sit and look at your DC sleeping or what? Stare at the walls? twiddle their thumbs?

hullygully · 12/11/2008 19:23

What do you think teachers get up to?
