So finally after 20 weeks an update.. “ cannot award “ so now waiting for the detailed letter and said it’s my intention to seek MR. I’m just so frustrated with it all atm son is 13, adhd, private QB tests sent and detailed reports from school where they are saying he physically cannot sit for a lesson etc he cannot sleep, cannot get up in the morning etc school even said he was a risk of fleeing and he has many lessons with 1-1 support.. any help or words of wisdom would be appreciated I’m just so tired of it all I suffer with mental health too and this is just adding to it :(

Harrydog111 · 24/10/2023 18:06

@Marie984 do an MR. Wait for the detailed breakdown for refusal and then explain why you disagree point by point. Any evidence to collaborate with what you've said send too. The criteria is how his care needs are different to what is expected for a 13 year old, so anything you can send to demostrate his ADHD traits, will help. Such a long time to wait for a refusal as it builds up.

I'm 18 weeks, I called, 3 times today. Cut off after an hour at lunch, called again at 2.45pm to be cut off after 1 hour 46 so called again...for the line to end as its their close after 1hour 4 mins. I've not ever received any texts only letters, so would like to know if there is any progress, especially if its a decline so I can prepare for an MR.

Mummyrach13 · 24/10/2023 18:15

I’m sorry @Marie984 to hear you weren’t awarded, I feel I will be the same as my boy is Almost 13, he is home educated too so no reports from school which won’t go in our favour.

100% MR bullet point all the reasons you disagree with and why, cross reference to any evidence if you have it! You know your boys needs more than anyone so you can do it. You see a lot of MR are then awarded.
Sending you a huge hug and good luck! X

Asdmummyhere · 24/10/2023 18:17

@Marie984 so sorry to hear it's a decline. I would definitely do a mr x

universal credit related...
anyone able to tell me how long it can take once it reaches the decision maker for Disabled child and carers element to be backdated?
I've left 4 messages on my journal since last week and only been told today its with a DM, they've had all info for nearly 2 weeks. * *

We requested 25th September and letter went onto journal 18th Oct saying it will be backdated. However no figures and no back pay as yet.

BoyMumGirlMum2022 · 24/10/2023 19:18

@AutisticDaughter isn't crazy how long they take, but if it was us that owed them. They'd be on our case.
Don't see how it can take so long.

Melliee · 24/10/2023 19:21

What are the 2nd texts? I haven’t received not even 1 text so confused…
also was wondering if everyone receives a phone call from the dm? Or do they simply get awarded or rejected?
scan date 5th July
good luck everyone!

Leighs2gorgeousboys · 24/10/2023 19:25

Just seen your message Lovely17, i'm so happy your long wait is finally over, i too rang Friday and was with DM, i just havent got the energy to ring again and wait an hour and a half or more xx

Leighs2gorgeousboys · 24/10/2023 19:44

Scan Date 20/6
5 weeks exactly today since last text, most are not texting decisions, you shouldnt have to keep chasing for answers, it infuriates me.😡
But if you dont ring, the decision can take 6 weeks via letter, the system makes no sense at all !!!

MumofLou · 24/10/2023 20:16

I haven't called yet (scan date 29th June). Do you think I will have to wait longer then if I don't call them? I have had 2 texts and I'm getting very stressed now. I want to call, but I only have an hour lunch break during the week, and I thought it highly unlikely I would get through.

AutisticDaughter · 24/10/2023 14:45

Many thanks. I was just confused as it has no figures on it and was dated 18th Oct

You’ll get a second letter added onto your journal saying how much they owe you and the amount that will be backpaid. The DM has to look into your previous payments, work out how much you should have received and then adjust your past statements. Mine only took 7 days before I was told how much money I’d receive. Hopefully yours doesn’t take long!

Asdmummyhere · 24/10/2023 20:20

@MumofLou from what I've read, the best time to call is bang on 9am, people seem to be on hold for over an hour anytime after that and still potentially cut off. It's ridiculous. Other people have seen the backpay before any letter etc too. Hope you here something soon x

Sorry, can’t tag everyone’s names. So relieved, he said the decision was made yesterday from 20/06 so full 18 weeks backdated. This is going to make a huge change for my daughter, so overwhelmed! The wait was worth it in the end. I’m rooting for you all, I really hope you all get the outcomes that you hope for. In regards to universal credit I have no idea what to say or what to do lol any help would be greatly appreciated xxx

I took this incredibly useful screenshot from the FB DLA page that explains what to do step by step

There’s no specific time frame unfortunately. Some will approve and backdate within a handful of weeks and some can take months. If it’s wifh a DM now then it shouldn’t be too long before you hear from them

BadeballSkihipto · 24/10/2023 20:29

Good view.

LGR004 · 24/10/2023 20:39

@MumofLou hey I’m 29/06 as well, the wait is so frustrating now we’re 17 weeks Thursday! I think I’m going to hold off till next Wednesday/Thursday then we’ll be 18 weeks exactly ! If I hold out and find he was awarded prior to the 18 week mark then it won’t be as long waiting for back pay essentially if that makes sense ? That’s if my LO is awarded 😩!

StephanieCee · 24/10/2023 20:58

Hi, could anyone help who’s recently getting a DLA award. Requested a backdated payment from the day my sons DLA started and I got this message today. Does anyone know what it means?

Still haven’t heard a thing from UC 🥴

MumofLou · 24/10/2023 21:14

Thank you @Asdmummyhere for the advice, I will try at 9am as you suggested 😊 at least either way I'm at the end of the wait now! It's been a long 16 odd weeks x

MumofLou · 24/10/2023 21:21

@LGR004 Hi, it has been such a long time, hasn't it, I was ok the first 15 weeks, then fell upon this group just after and have been lurking for the past week or so. I'm definitely getting more anxious as I see people the week before us and also after us get awarded! I just keep trying to remember that we are so close now, and i understand what you mean about the backpay. Please let me know if you hear anything and best of luck, I will keep everything crossed for a positive outcome for you and your little one X

When you receive UC, one of the obligations is that you let them know about any changes that happen within your assessment period. So if your scan date was in May, you’re meant to tell them about the change (that your child gets DLA and you now qualify for the carer and disabled child element) during May within your assessment period.

Because the waiting time is so long, anyone who updated their UC will be outside of their assessment period by some months. They have to accept the reason why you’ve reported it so late so that’s all it means. You’ll get a letter added onto your journal shortly

Sammy8919 · 24/10/2023 21:33

Same date here 5/7

Sammy8919 · 24/10/2023 21:35

Scan date 5/7 so hopefully not touch longer

LGR004 · 24/10/2023 21:42

@MumofLou thank you so much ❤️ Like wise to use! I’ve been following since part 13&15 reading through myself 😂 these groups have definitely helped ! Our time is right around the corner and pray we get the results that are deserved ! It’s hard trying to hold out calling but then at the same time the way some of the workers speak to people makes me thankful I don’t call when I want to 😂! I’m debating calling Monday I’ll have to see how more outcomes go this week and what scan dates have been awarded etc ! But none of the less I will update when I here anything! Hoping everyone’s coping well ❤️🌈
