Hi all,

I am a nanny with 20 years experience and good qualifications. I have just been approached about a job with one year old triplets in London and I'm not sure how much to charge?
The going current rate is £20/21 ph but I've not had triplets before.
If you're a parent how much would you offer?
Or any nannies on here who could recommend?

You say £20g is going rate ? For a nanny with exp is that ?

If you are to care for all three babies would it be just you or is mum a sahm and you would be a mother,s help?.There is so much involved and you need to think hard regardless of your years of experience.

If it is you and mum it makes sense to charge daily rate not hourly rate as you might want to consider a discount so £100 daily/£500 weekly/£2000 Monthly for weekdays 8am-5pm seems decent to me.

@Pikiti £100 for a 9hr day is only £11 per hour! An experienced nanny responsible for 1yr old triplets should get way more!

Yes she should get way more but that is why i said if she is doing the Job with mum not alone as they will be sharing the responsibilities.

Even if a parent is around, do NOT take £10 less PH then your usual rate, that’s ridiculous.

I have 18y experience and charge £21ph and tbh I charge what I charge regardless of if the parents around personally. I’m there to do my job, I do it extremely well and I do not discount when a parent is around. On that I also don’t charge extra for multiples/ siblings but I do have extremely firm boundaries when it comes to finish times, expected tasks during the day, holidays and time off.

@Pikiti why on Earth would a experienced nanny drop her rate to £100 a day

I would expect it to be in the region of £30-35 per hour based on;

• it’s London
• nanny costs my friends pay (50-70k pro rata for a nanny for 2)
• the CM rates for my own children (£3.5k pm for 2 children)

Triplets will be a toll even for an experienced nanny!

I would have thought £30p/h for full responsibility would be expected. That's only 1.5 times the basic rate for one child and there are 3!

I was only giving an opinion based on the minimum quote i got for my triplets.
Remember you would be providing accommodation and weekends off plus perks like use of your WiFi and unlimited snacks/hot drinks.

I'd probably look for around £25/26 pounds an hour.

Nannies don't charge more for siblings, it's not a per child rate, but baby triplets is going to be much harder work and more responsibility than different age siblings so I would look for a premium rate.

I can't see anyone willing to pay £35 an hour (unless they're extremely wealthy and absolutely love you over and above any other nanny they meet).

Tho obv 3 is harder

I looked after prem triplets babies last year. 2 with reflux. Yes was hard but very rewarding

If @Pikiti has triplets this would account for her clear insanity on this....if you are going to be driven that nuts by a job at least get paid for it😉.

Nannies don't get hot drinks etc as perks, they are a normal part of their job, they are part if it. Have a nanny, feed her, heat the house, give her WiFi.

Triplets are so much work, whilst you don't normaly pay a higher rate for more children, I think it's,reasonable that a nanny dealing with triplets would be paid a premium taking into consuderate that three babies is not the same as three children spaced apart in age and is far harder, that good qualifcations and experience of multiples ulis not that common, especially triplets over twins, and that many people wouldn't want the job. Its more if a niche job and the people suitable will be a smaller pool. I think you need to be looking at the top end of the going rate in your area, maybe 24? Can local agencies not advise you what you would normally expect?

Accomodation? Only if a live in role?
weekends off?? Most Nannies and more jobs than not have weekends off as a matter of course!
hot drinks are a perk now? Not if you don’t get any time to make one, we are talking about triplets here. I’d have my child proof thermos with me.

I mentioned Accomodation as minimum salary for live in nanny cannot be less than £2000 a month.By perk i meant other things that come with the package maybe i should use another word.

Providing Weekends off? That’s not something of note when discussing salary! Days of it just, y’know, legal!

and since when are hot drinks a perk?! Oh lord

I would expect about £25/hour. But to be honest if you haven’t previously cared for multiples I wonder if you might not prefer to just take an easier job. It’s going to be hard graft!

Year old triplets? Adorable, but I'd need obscene amounts of £££ for that 😆

I think usually a nanny charges per family, not per child. So really it should be similar to your normal rate. But three 1 year olds is harder than 3 children of different ages.
If you usually charge £21 per hr, then I would suggest £23-24.
