AIBU; Parent bringing lo to me in the middle of a hurricane?

We live in southeast London and, although it isn't technically a hurricane yet, the wind has definitely got worse in the hour I've been up and according to the weather, will peak between 8am and 10am. There are no trains running until at least 9am (probably a lot later). They normally walk to me, it is too bad to push a buggy in these winds, maybe they will drive, I will update.

I have texted this morning to find out what was happening as I hadn't heard from them and now (as I sit here listening to the wind howling and watching the tree bend), I'm a bit in shock that they are bringing Lo!!!

I may be being stupid/naive but what exactly is the problem? Won't you and the children just stay in out of the way of any bad weather?

Why are you shocked? I'd think it's fine to walk to you, safest mode of transport
People still need to go to work today , were you hoping for an easy day?!!

YABU.

Care is required when out and about, and some public transport is out. But there are lots of things that just have to keep going, and tHT might mean workers getting to work.

I would doubt the parents are unaware of the weather, or less concerned about their DC's welfare outdoors than you are.

Presumably if they always walk its not far? They can always make the call as they leave the house on whether or not its safe. Suspect you might have to have a quiet morning at home though.

What do you expect? If they're working, they can't take a day off because it's windy. As long as they can get to you safely, I don't see the problem. I'm in London too, and it's not that bad.

I guess if they have to work then they have no choice although I wouldnt want to take my charges out in this weather.

now my boss is completely unreasonable he has the week off and is still expecting me to be at work at 8.30 so I will be driving down treelined country lanes right when the worst of the storm is due to hit us in kent, he thinks hes doing me a favour by letting me start an hour later than normal.

I'd be very annoyed if my childminder didn't want me to bring my child to them for agreed child care because it's windy! It's hardly that bad!

Walking may be ok, without the buggy. Buggies in my experience can catch the wind. Could be a fun walk, will need to watch out for falling trees and things blowing around.

Not everyone can stay at home, life still goes on.

Since you asked AIBU, YABU. Trains are off because there may be damage to the lines, and they need to be checked before the trains run on them. A commuter train breakdown would mean more than the trains being off for a couple of hours. So, unless the pavements have blown away, there is no reason for this parent to stay off work.
As far as I am aware the warnings are still yellow and amber. Only Red means take action.

I hunk you are being unnecessarily cautious.

To the best of my knowledge, work and life isn't cancelled is it?

I'm expecting shops to be open, DH to go to work, I have a hospital appointment. All local to Surrey so no trains to take but nevertheless, life is carrying on, I think.

Yabu, I'm just about to go and drop mine off. Didn't even cross my mind to take the day of because its windy. And I'd be cross at my cm if she would not take my dcs in bad weather.

If you have Freeview, scroll through, as somewhere in the higher channel numbers are all the regions. BBC Breakfast has local news at about 25 and 55 past the hour (and I think ITV does it just after the half?).

Another one who doesn't understand the problem, if they walk to you then the trains won't affect them will they? And any risk happens in parent's care not yours as you can stay in.

In in central London. It's only a bit windy. I am on my way to work now. My employer would think wtf if I said it was too windy to work!

If everyone in Scotland stayed in because of strong winds no-one would ever get out. Honestly, the hysteria over a bit of wind is ridiculous.

I am a teacher on half-term, but if not , my two would be going to their cm. They do in heavy snow , rain and everything else- she is always welcoming and ready for action!
