I have to do a self assessment form for my OFSTED visit

I am in a quandary what is "Good" what is "Outstanding" how would I justify either grading - just because I think I am "Outstanding"...am I? what would make me "Outstanding"? and what would be "Good"

Note I am rejecting the idea that I am either satisfactory/unsatisfactory or poor

It's a very hard decision to make as no matter how good I am at something there is always room fro improvement and I really strive to do my best.

What does Mumsnet think?

katymac are you the person that employs other CM's and assistants?

traylay · 13/02/2006 22:24

oh my......whats cat. don't know how to do that???? only joined couple of hours ago

Outstandingkatymac · 13/02/2006 22:25

Yep I have DH who works about 30 Hrs pwk
An assistant who works 30ish
A minder who works 30 and one that work 24

I was really worried she wouldn't like me 'cos I was so big - but she said it was very homebased and all to a lovely standard

Outstandingkatymac · 13/02/2006 22:26

Traylay - you should get an email from me via MN
If you want the brochure just email me back

Outstandingkatymac · 13/02/2006 22:37

It was very nice (and fulfilling) to get my Outstanding

However I am still concerned about why - what makes me outstanding? - how is it judged? - what makes me "better"?

oldandfat · 13/02/2006 22:39

well done

Outstandingkatymac · 13/02/2006 22:47

Thanks O&F (can we change you name - I don't think it suits you - are you Warm&Cuddley? or cosy& "something"?)

traylay · 13/02/2006 22:56

thanks for that. look forward to getting details etc.

oldandfat · 13/02/2006 22:58

fraid not. oldandfat is it (for now anyway!)

Outstandingkatymac · 13/02/2006 23:01

Well I won't use it anymore

How about age&sizechallenged ?

Or respectedandcosy ?

AncientandAdorable

Lets get this positive rather than negative

oldandfat · 13/02/2006 23:19

i shall have a little think. but i like it...really. fat could become medium when the diet has kicked in and then medium could become thin. which would then make it oldandthin....bare with me, i know what im doing. i think

well done kaytmac. I have just been Ofsteded too, and i got good for everything which i think i deserved. But in answer to your question about the difference between good and outstanding, i think it is that you sound as though you have done that little bit more. Ie, you have a lovely childminding setting in a home environment but you are running your business on a par with a professional nursery,(the better ones should i say). I do basically what any good stay at home mum would do except i do it with other peoples children too. I must say i was surprised to get good for everything because i am one of these people who thinks they are crap at everything, but i am not surprised i did not get an outstanding. I am very pleased, and the inspector was lovely, so i used all that toilet paper and imodium for nothing. Do you think i could put it down as expenses?

Outstandingkatymac · 14/02/2006 21:20

Definately Teddyedwards - they were caused by OFSTED (I have to say my paracetamol with codiene (sp) were misused a little over the weekend)

teddyedwards · 14/02/2006 22:13

If i could take codeine i think i would have, but it turns me into a gibbering wreck,(bit like ofsted really) so i just had lots of toast and marmite, full of vit B, good for the nerves apparently. I am so glad its done now for 3 years. Hope its the same inspector next time. She was human and not at all scary. Shame they can't all be like that. My first one was more interested in my decor than my ability. This one seemed to have a totally different outlook and approach
