It's the nanny's word vs my daughter's... WWYD?

Kids and I were upstairs getting ready for bed tonight and I got hairbrush and blow dryer out to do her hair when DD asked where I found my brush. I said it was in my bag, why? She said our nanny was looking for it to dry her hair today after her shower...
WTF?!?!
Now usually, DD is a super rubbish liar... She'll start smiling and then giggling as soon as I get serious, but she held face and I made her swear that she wasn't lying. She was able to answer my questions (yes, nanny used my ensuite. no, daddy wasn't home. yes, she was sure) So with that said, several issues come to mind...
-Do I believe DD and ask nanny if she took a shower?
-If so, who was looking after the kids whilst she was in the shower? They are 5 and 6, but still...
-Why did she shower here and not at home?
-Why didn't she tell me when I got home? What was the reason for the dishonesty?
OMG!!

What do I do now?

Where does it say she blow dried her hair - I am more than happy to wash, towel dry and then put up in a pony tail not blowdry/straighten

WhiteBumOfTheMountain · 27/04/2011 12:46

I can't believe the shock on here! The nanny had a shower...big deal! Very, very weird. The DC are 5 and 6!

"nanny looking for the brush to dry her hair after her shower"

WhiteBumOfTheMountain · 27/04/2011 12:58

I agree with that Bluddy! My MIL used mine once and I was almost sick

drinkyourmilk · 27/04/2011 13:19

Excellent timing with this thread - i am a nanny (live-in during the week) and this morning i managed to spill an entire cup of tea down myself so ended up showering with my 21 month old charge sat in my bathroom playing on my iphone. I wouldn't have thought to mention it to my boss until reading this.
If I had been live out i would still have showered, and if there was no alternative I would have used their ensuite.

ChristinedePizan · 27/04/2011 13:24

It's not dishonest of a nanny not to mention that they had a shower. Wouldn't occur to me.

nannyl · 27/04/2011 13:29

no you come to mention it drink your milk there have been (3 times in 10 years) times when i have got covered in stuff and borrowed my bosses clothes.

one time when i was vomited all over i borrowed my bosses jogging bottoms, and washed my clothes (with all the other sicky stuff), in their washing machine then dried in tumble dryer, and then put back on later

Other times if i have got wet, i remember once, my jumper got soaked and i just tumble dried it....

not sure if i mentioned that to bosses, probably did, but im not going to walk around literally covered in sick, or an entire bowl of soup or similar, (or walk around without trousers on!) when there are clothes avaliable that fit me, and a washing machine thats going to be doing a load of washing anyway.
I would never choose my bosses bestest or favourite clothes, or new clothes or anything but an old pair of jogging bottoms.... i know my bosses wouldn't / haven't had any issues with it either

harrietthespook · 27/04/2011 13:29

(Starting to wonder if I've got hygiene issues. Just don't get this showering at work thing unless circumstances are very exceptional. People really just go round showering?)

nannyl · 27/04/2011 13:31

when i have showered as a result of being vomited over, i have also used a squirt of their shower gel! (dont think i ever mentioned that either!)
and dont consider it to be dishonest!

harrietthespook · 27/04/2011 13:32

NannyL- vom is clearly 'exceptional circumstances'

nannyl · 27/04/2011 13:34

cool! Smile

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 27/04/2011 13:35

harriet - yes, people who work 7am-7pm with small children who vomit, tip bowls of soup over you or you take swimming - it's not exactly a 9-5 desk job they're showering at!

harrietthespook · 27/04/2011 13:39

True, true.

crumpet · 27/04/2011 13:41

Nope. Is simply bizarre, unless clearly discussed and agreed beforehand. I can't even remember showering during the day in my year as a live in, full time au pair with a 2 and 3 yo to look after.

Showering after swimming (if the house has it's own pool) (and copious vom) would be an exception, but most houses I've been to with pools have a set aside changing area/shower. Even if an accident with tea/vom, a shower is only useful if there is also a clean set of clothes.

CalamityKate · 27/04/2011 13:47

See I think it's a bit of an odd thing to do unless she was extensively sicked on or something - in which case she'd mention it, surely?

I've worked in various different places/environments and most of my employers would have given me the Hmm face if I'd said "Ooh, I'm a bit sweaty - can I just pop off and have a shower?"

Bonsoir · 27/04/2011 13:53

Why would your nanny need to tell you if she had taken a shower at your house? Nannies work long and often rather grubby/sweaty days (cooking, parks, messy play, vomit, sports etc are all just par for the course) . I often feel the need to freshen up on a hot day after being out with DD at the park or in the street - why wouldn't your nanny?

TeddyMcardle · 27/04/2011 13:59

who was looking after the kids whilst she was in the shower? They are 5 and 6, but still... - This made me laugh as a lp sorry, should I not shower for the next 17 years then? Grin

I think you're massively overreacting, why don't you just ask her? Doesn't seem a big deal to me.

It wouldn't bother me if she had, so long as she cleaned up after herself. Maybe she had gotten rather sweaty, or maybe she had 'come on' unexpectedly.

No real harm there is there to be honest?

And how do you think us Lone Parents shower?

nannynick · 27/04/2011 14:08

Teddy - what about going to the loo? Imagine holding it in for 17 years!

VentiPeppermint - I think it's odd for a nanny to take a shower at work but it depends on the situation and without asking your nanny about it, you won't know what the situation was that meant she needed to take a shower.
Not sure why she would want to use your hairbrush though.

Viagrafalls · 27/04/2011 14:09

Where is the OP? I'd like to know what happened next - maybe a request for some nice shower gel? [cgrin]

crumpet · 27/04/2011 14:22

Oh for god's sake - What do you think those who work outside the home full time do - hop in the shower every time they have a period? That is ridiculous.

ChristinedePizan · 27/04/2011 14:25

Most people that work outside the home don't do anything terribly messy and those that do are usually supplied with uniforms and/or washing facilities. There has been a shower at pretty much every company I've ever worked at so that you could have a shower before going out/if you want to go for a run in your lunch hour etc.

Maybe the family bathroom doesn't have a shower in this case - mine doesn't.

CinnabarRed · 27/04/2011 14:27

I get pretty sweaty on the tube each morning.... No uniform or washing facilities provided for office-worker me.
