Overdue and losing it

Help! I am so confused- according to my lmp date my baby was due 12 days ago- according to my 1 st scan 4 days ago- I have had 3 sweeps, bloody show and NOTHING. I have tried all the usual stuff , nipples, sex. Walking, raspberry leaf etc. The hospital won't induce me for another 10 days and I am now starting to lose it. My daughter came dead on her due date with no interference and a quick labour, now I have myself worked up and think I will have to wait to be induced and may have a slow painful labour. I know I am being irrational and need to relax, but I feel like a failure- and just want my baby here all healthy and lovely. I've hardly stopped crying today , especially as i keep hearing about other babies arriving and think I'm losing my marbles- help me!

Congratulations, lovechoc! Great to see people leaving this thread

If I don't go in labour by Monday hopefully the sweep I'm supposed to have some time beginning next week will work for me too!

LittleMs · 25/07/2010 00:29

I've managed to insert a photo of myself from a week ago to illustrate what I mean by my enormous belly. I cannot wait to not feel like the ground is breaking under my feet with every step I take.

Yay congratulations lovechoc !

Today's my EDD - just celebrated with swanky dinner out with DH (this is our PFB in here, so we're making the most of romantic dinners out while we still can) and while I ate my own bodyweight in delicious french food I said "Every day that this baby didn't come is now officially a second honeymoon that's just for the two of us to enjoy."

Hah - I'll see how long I can maintain that zen attitude - it's easy when you've had a sneaky glass of wine!

BettyButterknife · 26/07/2010 10:14

Congratulations everyone who's had their babies!

I am still here at 40+11. I can't believe it. It was my DS1's 3rd birthday yesterday and as soon as his party was over, I started having contractions - I was sure that my subconscious mind was not allowing me to go into labour until I'd made sure my son was ok. We sent him to stay with my parents last night as we were sure this was it.

4 hours of contractions and then things stopped. So I had a good night's sleep and am planning a long walk today.

Will this baby ever come out?? When I woke up earlier I looked over at the baby hammock which has been set up in our bedroom for the past few weeks and thought 'Well, I might as well take it down because there clearly isn't a baby in here after all'. My mind is playing tricks on me!

It can't be that much longer, can it? I love your idea of a second honeymoon, blackcurrants... might suggest to DH that we go for a nice lunch somewhere seeing as DS is at nursery today.

Ho hum....

blackcurrants · 26/07/2010 12:17

Yeah, Betty - do it! I didn't do much romantic or special yesterday, as it was stinking hot here and I had what I suspect was a teensy hangover (after one glass of wine! NOT FAIR!) However today I romantically cleaned up some dogshit in the kitchen that was making DH wretch too much to go in there....

oh no, wait, that's not exactly romantic. Mnn. Might think of something. Am contemplating booking myself in for some accupuncture. It'll be my third lot and I'm not sure it'll actually do anything but I always feel lovely afterwards, and that along might be worth the fifty quid!

I haven't had my baby either, in spite of having high hopes for the full moon! Just waiting for the midwife now to arrange a sweep...

Discovered yesterday that my hospital+baby bags were covered with a thick layer of dust Remember being so convinced, due to all the contractions, that by now I'd have a few weeks old baby!

BettyButterknife · 26/07/2010 15:35

I'm going to have to dust all the baby stuff too, LittleMs! It's ridiculous. I too thought the full moon would do it.

Back in to hospital tomorrow for another trace and scan. I won't leave until they give me a sweep but too.

Might book acupuncture for Wednesday...

LittleMs · 26/07/2010 22:23

Had a really thorough sweep early afternoon, the midwife said she could feel the baby's hair! No front waters again, which means my waters won't break naturally, the head is tightly covered by the sac and is very well attached to the cervix. The cervix was still a bit high, but she said it might lower as a result of the sweep.

Started getting not very frequent contractions a couple of hours ago, several last ones have been so painful I'd be amazed if it's not the real thing, they made me break out in sweat with pain. There is no established pattern to them yet, I get two in a row, then nothing for 20 minutes...

However have had no show or no runs to the toilet which are the other classical labour start symptoms I was sort of expecting. Though that might still be to come. Need to make sure it's the real thing before I get the family excited or ring the hospital, it's too far away to drive and be sent back!

If it is just a rehearsal it is an unusually painful one!

blackcurrants · 27/07/2010 12:51

oooh, excited for you LittleMs - hope this is it!

I'm going to see my MW this afternoon, and will beg her for a sweep. She said last week I wasn't dilated enough for it to be worth doing. Let's hope this week....

LittleMs · 28/07/2010 00:43

The sweep did work for me! I had my baby girl at 4.25 AM, 9.59lbs, doing well, though there were some complications, she got a bit stuck on the way out but thankfully was delivered naturally due to the midwives' expertise.

It was a bit of a roller-coaster, having to transfer from one hospital to another due to no places at the one they wanted me in initially, and no time to wait for an ambulance- so my husband had to drive me having to stop every six minutes in a layby or just in the road with emergency lights on to rub my back while I was howling in agony through the contractions. Good job it was 1AM in the morning by then and there was no traffic, it still took 40 minutes.

I would like everyone who is still on this thread to leave it asap, but feel I cannot sincerely say 'bring on the labour', you forget how painful it is, though my opinion is especially biased right now because this was surprisingly more painful and lasted longer than my two previous ones, however it's been nearly nine years interval...

I'm sure the combination of the sweep, full moon, raspberry leaf tea and primrose oil together helped to bring on the baby quicker, but the sweep was the most important one, I would still be here pregnant today if it wasn't for the sweep!

I started developing complications in the last several days with my liver because it was so sqauashed by the baby, as a result now sit here all broken out in horrible itchy hives which keep coming...so thank God she did come when she did and not later.

I'm wishing everyone still pregnant an easy labour and to see your babies soon!

BettyButterknife · 28/07/2010 08:59

Congratulations LittleMs! Sounds like you had a right old time of it, but luckily your little girl is here now. Well done you - big baby, too

I had another trace yesterday, and another sweep too - midwife said cervix was soft but still a bit posterior and not very effaced, and she had to open the cervix with her finger. She said she could feel the forewaters bulging - not entirely sure what that means!

Anyway, a hot curry last night, and not much else to report really. I'm having acupuncture today as a last ditch attempt to bring on the labour, as I'm booked in for induction tomorrow at 2 weeks overdue. Don't really want to be induced but this is getting a bit ridiculous now!
