Homebirth - Midwife does not support our birth plan/ wishes

My husband and I have planned for our second home birth experience, which we hope to be any day now!

I am feeling very dissapointed and a little anxious now, as my midwife does not fully support our birthplan wishes. She said she; ' will not allow my husband into the birth pool' or allow him to deliver/catch our child!

I didn't get any valid reasoning and sense that she is just very stong minded and set in her way. Fortunately, my husband is also a strong character and I trust he'll deal with things to ensure we have a happy relaxed birth.... the way way we want it! I just wish he didn't have this worry and hope there is no atmosphere and stree on the day.

Do you u agree or disagree with her? Do you know of any valid reasons for her objections?

We could end up having an unassisted birth...which may not be such as bad thing!

Yey go for it this weekend!!!

Try everything!

Bexybear · 01/04/2010 22:06

great stuff... been lurking...glad youve escaped...just wanted to say good luck and add yet another way to encourage labour - there are some acupressure points around the ankle which stimulate/encourage contractions (especially now the contractions are happening ) You will need to get DH on the case as im sure you wont be able to get down there yourself! Cant remember the website someone else might have a good suggestion or just google it...

QueenG · 01/04/2010 22:14

Thanks.

Trying tea, got some homeopathic remedies as well. Reflexologist showed me points on mt feet so husband was massaging yesterday. I shall get him on the case again now. Then I'm going to try and get some Zzzzzs, and hope to wake in a lot of pain!

Yay. Don't worry about not being in 'established' labour. It is only a technical term. By all sense and purposes you are now in labour and tbh the more of the painless stuff you do the better as it will make the painful bit shorter.

contractions have been stopping and starting. as soon as reach approx 10mins and stronger they start to die down again.

Hospital trying to scare me wirh poss meconium issues, failing placenta etc...noone can scan again over easter.

Anyone know if fluid 2.4 means slowing placenta or likely at this stage. seems theyre guessing to me.

They want me mon latest...

im still hopeful!

QueenG - please ignore this if you feel it's not appropriate, but have you really got your head ready for the birth? You've had to do so much fighting to get what you need for the best possible birth for you and your baby that maybe your mind is still in fighting mode, whereas it needs to get into relaxed, acceptance mode.

Can you concentrate on getting your head free of all other problems and just focus on your baby for the next few hours. Talk to it, encourage it, get ready to see it soon. Can you get your dh to give you a long back rub, get into your birth pool, eat something to give you energy for the long haul.

FWIW I'm near you and had a community mw based in Watford for my dc3 homebirth. She was fab! Did the very minimum and just let me get on with birthing my baby. An awesome experience for me and dh.

Thinking positive thoughts for you!

QueenG · 03/04/2010 06:51

Thanks. You are right. im drained from the experience, and know im tense. im feeling under pressure. Also trying to keep 3 yr old happy....she can sense somethings up.

in Tring and yet another trip to watford for monitoring. Wasnt allowed under stoke, due to postcodes/ budgets.

Then hemel 4 another sweep!

Im in floods, been contracting up & down since 3:30. Going to try get more Zzzzz. maybe good to be alone today & DH go out with littlin.

Happy Easter.

Scarlett Marie was born at home at 10:14pm on the 3rd April (16 days over her EDD), weighing 7lbs. Perfect in every way.

Thanks to our very supportive midwife 'Marie', we had another wonderful homebirth/ waters birth experience.

There were no concerns on the day, and fortunately no meconium, or need to transfer to hospital.

I will be following up my complaints and concerns regarding my original midwife (when the time is right), with support from midwifes I've seen since. I feel strongly, that noone else should have to go through the stress that i did during their pregnancy. I do believe it was responsible for a prolonged pregnancy.

Many thanks again to all those who took the time to offer advice & support during a very difficult time. I'll be forever grateful to you & Mumnet team.

Gina

Who 'caught' the baby?

Congrats BTW

morethemerrier · 05/04/2010 10:24

Congrats QueenG! , so pleased for you all!

And I'm also curious,as planning a homewater birth myself (5 weeks to go!) and also want my rugby playing DH to 'catch baby', did yours manage it!?!

And although you had a bad exp with your first midwife, I just wanted to say thankyou
for sharing as it made me raise the subject with my midwives who luckily are very supportive over the whole 'catching' issue!

I probably wouldn't have even thought it was a potential problem, had you not mentioned it!

Beautiful name btw x

Tangle · 05/04/2010 22:09

Congratulations

I'm so pleased you managed to get the support you deserve and found a MW that you trusted
