Not sure anyone is going to be up now but am 39 weeks today and been having mild pains for last hour or so. They def have start and end and get more painful in the middle. If I lie in bed it makes me want to stand up but not so painful its crippling. Contraction master times them every 5 mins or so (this was a bit of a surprise!). No show though or any other signs of impending labour. can;t help thinking its a false start... anyone out there to agree with me?

have your waters broken yet -this may be a bit of leaking that makes you think you're incontinent rather than a great gush...the fact pain is not unbearable doesn't mean you're not in labour so you're right on thinking that doesn't mean much.

Whiteybaby · 23/03/2009 01:07

no sign of waters breaking. quite a lot of discharge (sorry tmi) but coming in little patches all afternoon(eg teaspoon amount) and sure its not my waters. Obviously a first timer here! Have been on tenter hooks since 37 weeks so almost think i am imagining this! am sat on birthing ball and no pains for about 8 mins.. thank god for contraction master!!
Thanks for responding Poppy!

thats ok - you were me back in june (and before you start panicking re late nights etc I am on hols in us).

Keep on with contracton master and phone m/w or hospital if it gets to 5 minutes again - does sound like your waters are going (I had a leak then a great gush when dd was actually being delivered).

seriouscase · 23/03/2009 01:10

Could well be early labour...! I certainly had contractions like that for ages. If you can talk and walk through them you may have ages to go. Time will tell so you will have to see how it goes. Got your bag packed? Phone the hospital to talk if over with a midwife if you need to. Good luck and keep us posted!

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 01:10

Sounds like braxton hicks - which can feel exactly like proper contractions! Even if it is the start of labour it must be very early stages and so the best thing you can do is get yourself as much sleep as you can! (Basically if you can sleep through them and you are having a normal healthy pg do )

gibbberish · 23/03/2009 01:18

Hi! It does sound like Braxton Hicks but if you have been leaking a little through the day then it may very well be early labour. It can be a long time though before things really get going so I would say try to get sone sleep in the meantime. If it is going to happen tonight it will.

Hope it all goes well! And keep us posted

Whiteybaby · 23/03/2009 01:19

hello everyone! I think i have finally realised the true joy of mumsnet. feel much better with virtual support whilst I am sat here! Before I got up I was sleeping between them but waking up everytime it hurt and wanted to get out of bed. could almost feel my bump gearing up each time iykwim. pain all very much on lower half of bump which i though might be bh's. Have had loads before tho and never painful. Re bags am booked in for home birth although stand by bag at the ready just in case. think its slowing down to be honest. 10 mins between last ones and not another for nearly the same again now. thanks for responses ladies!!

Relax and have a good night whiteybaby. Your little one will be here before you know it, whether he/she decides to make an appearance tonight or not. Once it really gets going there will be no doubt! Will be keeping an eye out to see how it goes for you. So exiting!

gibbberish · 23/03/2009 01:24

Shouldn't be up but have chicken pox (can you believe it??) One of the joys of having children - they share everything with you

seriouscase · 23/03/2009 01:24

Off to bed now - you too I hope! Good luck, you'll have your baby here before you know it.

Whiteybaby · 23/03/2009 01:25

12 mins between contraction just passed and one before.. def geting slower... this could be slightly frustrating!! I am trying to remember patience is a virtue and not to wish labour on myself!! Blimey they are quite sore though.. have been wondering how much this might hurt and think thats just the tip of the iceberg!! For old hands out there no need to tell me now how much worse its going to get!!

gibberish sorry to hear about chicken pox. hope your not feeling too rotten. thx for support going to give it 10 mins and then try going back to bed...

gibbberish · 23/03/2009 01:29

Not going to tell you how much worse it will get. Every person, and indeed every labour is different.

You sound prepared and you will be fine. Try to sleep because tomorrow might be the day your little one makes an appearance.

Try not to be disappointed though if he/she doesn't - my four were all two weeks late but had lots of false alarms along the way. Just their way of keeping you on your toes!

Hope you have a good night x

Whiteybaby · 23/03/2009 01:31

thank you. hope you manage some sleep too. x

Will do thanks. Calamine lotion might be an old remedy, but it works!

Will check back in the morning.

Night x

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 01:43

Hope things go well when they do kick off! As Gibbberish says each labour is different so don't get stressed out now about if it will/won't hurt and what have you. Labour happens when and how it happens, relax and try to get as much rest as you can - I will be keeping an eye out for your announcment

Jacksmama · 23/03/2009 01:45

It's not early labour. Go back to bed.

Whiteybaby · 23/03/2009 01:53

Jacksmama you sound like my mother! . ok am heeding your advice and going to go to bed. Night all...

OP posts:
Jacksmama · 23/03/2009 01:57

seriously... if it's labour you WON'T be able to sleep, so snooze while you can.

will be thinking of you

Hi JM

Whitey if you are still up firstly good luck!

secondly I was in your position 2 years ago - well the leaking water phase anyway. I had dribbles and bits and thought I was incontinent etc etc no contractions but I rang the midwife and they told me to come in and I did and it was leaking fluid and I never had a gush so don't dismiss it all from fear of being a first timer!

every old hand was a first timer once and there is no shame in not knowing what to expect - even those who have lots of labouts will tell you each one is different!

good luck, we'll check back on you soon

mamadiva · 23/03/2009 02:10

Ooh am excited for you now

Have a nice calming drink and try to wind donw if that does'nt work I found that a bubble bath was fantastic when I was in labour. I had 4 of them throuh the night and I used 2 whole bottles of mint source bubbles

daisy99divine · 23/03/2009 02:10

Oh, Whitey, well I am still here!

phone the midwife, I would! they can only say go back to bed you silly old whitey!

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 02:11

I love that feeling - the fear of the unknown mixed with the desperation to meet your little one!

Please try to get some rest woman
