While I am waiting for my HB I thought I would write this thread for all those other first timers who are planning HB's. I am a first timer and I have no idea whats going to happen or whether it will result in a successful HB but I thought this could be useful to others in my position...

Oh my goodness, thank you ChocO for this, I'm planning a HB for my first in March and at the moment I am really struggling to imagine what it will be like. you're doing a great public service!!
good luck xx

lauraw78 · 09/11/2008 17:40

I'm watching this with interest as I have also planned a homebirth, I'm now 5 days over my due date, has a show last night, woke up loads with bad back pain last night, have felt nauseous all day and although the heating is off right now and its not exactly a warm November night, I'm here patting my face as I'm sweating cobs......don't know if this is going to lead to anything, but who knows, fingers crossed, and fingers crossed for you Chocorange05 that things start kicking off good and proper very soon =)

ChocOrange05 · 09/11/2008 17:49

Oh - good luck Laura!

So far contractions have been between 2 mins and 29 mins apart and lasting for 0.38 - 1.17 mins. They seem to be more frequent when I stand up and move about so trying to keep active. They aren't taking my breath away at the moment but they are painful so I need to concentrate on breathing and moving (rocking on the birthing ball) to get through them. If this is the worst it gets I will be fine, which suggests its not the worst its going to get!!

Watching TV as well as using the comp so doing lots to keep me busy.

Fabulous!
How exciting!

I do hope you've thought to rope in a friend to give us regular updates, it would be so rude ti leave us all hanging.

In fact, where's the webcam??

Good luck!

ChocOrange05 · 09/11/2008 18:45

Bugger - I just ate a banana and they are very fibrous.... damn silly woman!

Ah the webcam - I knew there was something I'd forgotten.

I will update as long as poss and maybe ask DH to as well, otherwise I will recount after the event. Maybe the CMW's could get involved too?!?

lol webcam! hi again choco, all power to your elbow(s), knees and any other part of you likely to need it! who's in your birth team? do you have a spot picked out that you're going for? when's mw coming (and a zillion other keep you occupied questions )

i had a hb in march, was a joy.

Yorky · 09/11/2008 18:53

Have to say EITHER knitting or back rubbing lacka, the combination could be scary!

Keep up the good work ChocO

Anyone else for a cup while the kettles on?

ChocOrange05 · 09/11/2008 18:53

Merry I have to call the MW when ctx are 3-5 mins apart for at least a min for 3-4 hours. At the moment they are lasting for over a minute every 6-9 mins so hopefully getting there.

I have 2 MW's at the birth and my DH will be here. The birthing pool is set up in the nursery and DH is going to fill it when I start getting more regular ctx as I don't want to get in too early.

OP posts:
merryberry · 09/11/2008 19:00

ooh, what pool have you got? i got in mine early as i was so uncomfy and knackered. instant relief. lovely things.

merryberry · 09/11/2008 19:01

i'll take a 2 bag redbush please and thank you Yorky, push the boat out why not on a rainy evening ...

merryberry · 09/11/2008 19:04

how is your husband doing choco? nervous? mine was about being on own with me, though 19 days of pre-labour (no kidding) should have inured him to it. but my mum was also upstairs for ds1, so he wasn't so scared.

Belgrano · 09/11/2008 19:11

ChocoO this is an absolutely amazing thread.
I would love to have a hb next so am watching with avid interest (along with the rest of Mumsnet by the looks of things). Really really good luck and sending you lots of easy, marvellous birth vibes.
Mine's white, no sugar please Yorky.

iwantasecondone · 09/11/2008 19:17

OOOOh how lovely! My HB went pear-shaped and transferred, would so love to see yours go smoothly. Best wishes!

LackaDAISYcal · 09/11/2008 19:18

fair point yorky.....

coffee white with one please; this might be a long night

star6 · 09/11/2008 19:18

This is so exciting especially as you are only about a 10 min drive from me! If you need anything in RL give a shout! you are doing so well!

lauraloola · 09/11/2008 19:25

Dp has hogged the internet all afternoon and I have been dying to find out how its going. Dp said I wasnt allowed to check as its making me broody

It seems to be progessing well ChocO

merryberry · 09/11/2008 19:31

mmm, so exciting, some were coming close together 2 hours ago...have we entered the 'sit and speculate frenziedly' stage i wonder, or is she off doing something more entertaining?

my mw read my dreadful sleb mags for an hour of my active labour, and we have a good gossip about the d-list doyennes between contractions. dh was a bit 'who is this somewhat cliched woman giving birth on my kitchen floor'

merryberry · 09/11/2008 19:34

wondering what breathing stuff choco is doing<
wondering if choco is doing any hpynobirthing stuff<

getting called downstairs to come and take in part in my own life

CharCharGabor · 09/11/2008 19:34
