CantSleepWontsleep is being induced tomorrow. She's disappointed that she won't get a live birth thread. Come and console her here.

And whilst you're here, feel free to answer any of the following...

What does one wear for induction - nightie ready for it all kicking off, or normal clothes for wandering around hospital in?

Anything else I should add to my hospital bag that I'm more likely to want with an induction?

If the prostoglandin stuff doesn't work, can I decide at that point to leave it, as I don't want my waters broken or the drip?

Would they be able to tell from a scan whether my placenta was still functioning just fine, whereby a few more days wouldn't hurt?

I'll be 40+5, and the induction is because I have gestational diabetes. It's standard practice to induce between 38 and 40 weeks for this, but I've been 'allowed' to go over because my control of it has been good.

won't be long now... (relative to the gestation period/tectonic drift/coming of next ice age etc)

Flamebat · 07/10/2008 13:06

She has a question - am asking it here and in chat...

"has anyone had ARM but not syn drip? Seems to be both or neither here, but may succumb to ARM later if I reckon I can get away with just that."

CarGirl · 07/10/2008 13:07

I have had 2 ARMs and never the drip, tell her to let them ARM but refuse drip.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 07/10/2008 13:09

Not 100% sure, but I think they broke my waters with DS1 and I didn't have the drip.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 07/10/2008 13:14

I have had ARM in EACH labour and never a drip.

ARM got me going really well.......gave brith within half hour each time!

Jas · 07/10/2008 13:16

What is ARM?

FourArms · 07/10/2008 13:19

Artificial rupture of membranes

Jas · 07/10/2008 13:20

Thankyou. No, then, I had the drip with dd1, but waters had already broken naturally, so no help here.

Flamebat · 07/10/2008 13:23

have passed all this on

EachPeachPearMum · 07/10/2008 13:24

Don't fancy an ARM meself

ohdearwhatamess · 07/10/2008 13:35

Flame I had one with ds2 (tell her it is MuffinMclay - she won't remember my new name) and to go for it. Not disimilar to a sweep. Hurts, but not as much as the induction gel. I went into labour an hour after having mine.

Lurcio · 07/10/2008 14:36

I had ARM with DD, was told that you had to have the drip if they did ARM.
Midwife had trouble inserting the drip and told me that she would be back in a while with someone else to insert it. Cue me marching up and down coridoors, determined to get labour moving (very phobic about needles!). It worked- I was ready to push before she'd come back! (I think she kindly took her time finding someone because she could see how much I didn't want the drip)

Flamebat · 07/10/2008 14:37

"fab - will see how persuasive I can be. Suspect they will need to check with consultant so may be tomorrow, which is fine as I prefer daytime labour. DH bringing DD in later today, so will see if feeding her can spark anything off first"

Flamebat · 07/10/2008 17:50

"Things progressing v slightly. Having painful contractions every 6 mins but cervix still not in right position or open, so just had another pessary. Uterine contractions up to 40% on monitor but mw helpfully said that that doesn't mean a lot until in established labour. Am still taking it as a positive as they were only 10% before".

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 07/10/2008 17:52

can she go for a walk up and down many flights of stairs??? That I know has helped other inducing mums.

perkypopsy · 07/10/2008 18:57

Just popping in to send big hugs to CSWS - we were due at same time and my induction is boooked for the weekend so am reading all of this with heart in mouth - is fab to have somewhere to read about other peoples inductions cos I am getting myself all worked up and nervous...

Off to walk up and down stairs while having sex, eating pineapple curry and washing it all down with a pint of raspberry tea...

misdee · 07/10/2008 19:20

Hi Mr and Mrs CSWS - checking for news. Hope to hear soon! (I assume you know I'm Mrs MB Mr CSWS)

MrCSWS · 08/10/2008 06:24

Just received text, "had a good nights sleep, but everything seems to have stopped for now", and i went to bed at 8.30 just in case i needed to get up in the night!

swedishmum, i know who you are! and i know why you have your name, but i am surprised you haven't changed it.

Anyway, off to hospital in a few hours, will update then

Jas · 08/10/2008 07:22

A good nights sleep to prepare for some action today I hope

Flamebat · 08/10/2008 07:42

"Morning everybody. Am enjoying having a birth thread even if I can't post on it myself. Had a sneaky peek on DH's phone yest lunchtime and hoping for another this morn. Anyway, not a lot to report, except for a good night's sleep and that contractions seem to have stopped! I await my next VE with baited breath and tightly clenched cervix!"
