there are so many sad sad threads here of women who have had truly awful times, and someone (sorry, can;t think who now), commented that we only really here the awful stuff and never the nice births.

so, in some type of helpful way, maybe we can have a thread where women can go that can be an encouragement that some births can be lovely and fabuous........VB and CS births.

will post this now and then come and say mine

lets just say that when your 2yr old DD tells you she has put her drink on the floor......do not turn aorund bearing plates of food when you cannot actually see the floor anyway because of you bump!!!!

I kicked over the drink, put out my leg to steady myself, and did the splits as we had a shiny new wooden floor laid that enabled me to go full whack on the floor.....

and what was worse (at the time), was that I rang up the PIL's (DH was working away in london trying to get some money in as DD2 had just come out of hospital and we thought we still had a week yet before baby came), anad their response was to ask if I could hang on as they had just sat down to dinner.

I was on the floor trying not to scream too loudly for fear of scaring the girls!!!

rang DH, he got home in 70mins (thankgod this was pre-speed camera's), and took me to the maternity unit, sho told me I should have rung 999 as I was still unable to walk (thankgod DH is a builder is all I an say!)

but the birth was still fantastic

I had a lovely planned CS with my DD nearly 5 years ago. Everything was perfect. The hospital and all the staff were so wonderful, my consultant came highly recomended - and didn't let me down.
Whole thing was brilliant, even managed a small private room (ensuite) how fab. Quick recovery and a perfect little smily DD

wheredohairbandsgo · 15/08/2008 18:03

I had a great birth with dd7 even though it didn't all go to plan. I organised a water birth, aromatherapy oils, and recorded 'relaxing CDs' but it all went out the window when baby got in distress and I was bundled into an ambulance with talk of an emergency C-section.

But! Despite it not going to plan, I felt totally calm inside, almost like an out of body experience. I felt in control and only needed gas and air. All I focused on was meetng my baby.

Then dd arrived, perfect and beautiful, she blinked her big blue eyes at me and I thought: 'I want to do it again!'

lauraloola · 15/08/2008 18:19

I had a great labour with dd. My waters started leaking on the Tuesday, woke on Wednesday with very mild contractions so did the washing, had a good meal, had an hour and a halfs nap, a shower and generally got ready. Went to hospital at 5pm as the contractions were getting a little stronger. Got there and they stopped! All of a sudden they came back all at once, had gas and air to be examined and they said I was fully dilated. 30 minutes later dd was born - 1 day early!

She was perfect. I tore and had a few stitches but I didnt feel them. The midwives were fab (Dorchester hospital).

All in all it was good. It hurt but its worth it. I would do it again tomorrow to have another dc xxx

elmoandella · 15/08/2008 18:22

my 2nd birth was fast. happened thru the night.

the hospital offered me a 6hr turn around.

this is whereby they get doctor to sign you out if you and baby are well after 6 hours from birth.

we got home at lunch time. my ds1 hardly even noticed we were gone, which i help him adjusting to baby.

i gotta sleep in first night in my own bed with dp and my mum to help.

and in the hospital coz they were short of beds they agreed to giving me my own private room if i was happy with 6 hour turnaround. it was fab.

with this i got a midwife came in afternoon i got home just to double check all was ok. then again in morning.

i had no stitches.

ChasingSquirrels · 15/08/2008 18:26

mine were both good.
ds1: waters went about 10.30pm, panic'd a bit (I was 36+6), called the hospital and they said to come in for a check but they would probably send me home. Got to hospital about 11pm, had a couple of contractions in the car on the way there. ds1 born at 00.36am after an hour of pushing, no tears or grazing.
ds2: waters went about 11.30pm (also 36+6), first contraction about 10 minutes later, baby at 11.55pm . Bit of grazing but nothing significant. The placenta took alot longer, but came naturally.

belgo · 15/08/2008 18:27

did you get to the hospital on time chasingsquirrels?

elmoandella · 15/08/2008 18:28

chasing , my 2 were both exactly 6 days overdue also!

nannyjo · 15/08/2008 18:28

i went in to hospitol with what i thought were 'toilet pains' but thought i'd better just check it out as i had some bleeding too. I was already 5 cms dilated. within half hour i needed G&A but still very bearable, 1 hour later and 3 pushes time out popped baby.

With 2 nasty lengthy induced labours previously, this one was heaven. I would love to do it again but one slight problem...I don't want another baby

ChasingSquirrels · 15/08/2008 18:29

planned homebirth , didn't plan it to be unassisted with h on the other side of the room cuuting bubble wrap though! h called 999 after the birth and ambulance turned up about 20 mins later, MW took another hour - despite having been called following first contraction and being told that she better get here bloody quickly as I thought the baby was coming. 2.30pm and I was posting my birth story (on another site) then snuggling down in bed.

ChasingSquirrels · 15/08/2008 18:30

3 weeks early elmoandella - thats why I panic'd

elmoandella · 15/08/2008 18:32

what i was getting at was that each pregnancy lasted same time.

my midwife said i'd go 6 days over when expecting and i guaffed at her.

but it's been true for 2 other people i know also.

Flamesparrow · 15/08/2008 18:32

Yup

DD was a hospital waterbirth All went perfectly, I tore but no stitches. She didn't cry when she was born and I panicked - they told me to look at her, see that she was watching me and clearly fine (Babies come out and cry - I've seen tv... I know no crying = bad baby issues)

DS was a planned homebirth. I had a few issues with the it being longer than I would have liked (believed all you gits who told me second births went faster ), and I didn't get to use the pool, but in the end it didn't matter because I had my son, then got to snuggle up with him on my own sofa

ChasingSquirrels · 15/08/2008 18:34

ahh, I see. Everyone said I would be early with no.2, I said no way, this despite having severe BH's from about 20 wks, to the extent that the last month or so they were pretty consistently every 10 minutes. Maybe I was really in labour for 3 months

MarsLady · 15/08/2008 18:34

DD2's birth was wonderful. My mw was like a doula to me only I didn't realise it at the time. She was the only one who seemed to have faith in my ability to birth my DD. I had been told that she was going to be enormous and that I would need a c-birth.

I had a 6 hour labour and DD2 was born so easily that my mw said that I could've done it at home. Gas n air until the pushing stage when the mw took it away and told me to listen to my body and that the gas would take me away from myself.

As a doula myself I have been at some gorgeous births. I have seen some beautiful waterbirths (Thomcat had an amazing waterbirth), fabulous homebirths and incredible hospital births (including c-births). I've seen silent labourers, shouters and moaners (not misery moaning but low moaning iyswim). I feel like one of the most privileged women in the world!

One day I'm going to sit down and get someone to work out my birth statistics.

I am so proud of my thread......and it really is inspiring to see lots of faces on here

My second was a VBAC at home. It was lovely. I still cry a little from sheer happiness when I think of it. It bloody hurts - I'm not going to rose-tint that bit for you! - but it was a really good pain. I had an episiotomy in the end but it was no problem, neither at the time nor when it was healing. I sat on a bag of frozen peas when it smarted and it was fine. Would do it again tomorrow (as long as I didn't have to do the pregnancy bit first).

moosemama · 15/08/2008 19:04

My first was back to back and ended up with an epidural among other things, but despite that I actually enjoyed the experience and was on cloud 9 when DS1 was born.

My second was a lovely birth. Slow and long labour but relatively pain free and very relaxed.

Only went into hospital an hour and a half before DS2 was born, had gas and air for an hour, bounced on a ball and he was born really quickly. MW was so impressed she said I was welcome back anytime. I said that he was definitely my last, but here I am 20wks pregnant - again!

aprilfoolsbaby · 15/08/2008 21:27

I have one dd aged 4 1/2 months and my birth was lovely.

Went into labour at 1 am, stayed at home with paracetamol, hot water bottle, tacky films and dh (who was just chuffed as he got to phone work to tell them it was all go and he couldn't come in!) Went into hospital at 1pm when I felt it was time (was terrified I'd be examined and be told to go home as this wasn't real labour, so hung on for as long as poss) was 3 cm! Yipee! Bounced on a ball, had gas and air and diamorphine and dd was born at 630 pm that night.

Yes it hurt like hell, yes I felt sick as a dog afterwards, yes being in hospital for anything isn't pleasant, yes I tore, but all in all I look back on the birth and feel it was amazing.

Positive tales of birth aren't advertised, but when you actually speak to women, it's surprising how many have had good experiences.

Good luck!

Niceychops · 15/08/2008 21:34

Me! It was a section though. Fantastic.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 15/08/2008 21:34

2 planned homebirths
lovely but very different
first LONG but low grade pain, lots of DVD's bit of gardening, lots of CD's very little sleep. No pain relief aside from birth pool.
Brilliant midwives.
born at 5.20pm few stitches, all up and about happily the next day (if a little tender)

Second fast and more painful but again at home, dancing to MTV for an hour, in the pool for an hour DS2 arrived.
once again a few stitches, baked cake and invited neighbours into meet the baby. was on a total high.

I am truly envious of those about to go on the amazing journey that is childbirth.

sherbetdipdab · 15/08/2008 21:40

Psycho this is a lovely thread!

I had my first DS last summer.

I was induced at 38 weeks due to pre-ecl, it took 2 days to get to the labour ward but those 2 days spent with DH were lovely. Especially the night before I had him when I was given morphine and DH sat for 4 hours telling me all about how he fell in love with me and what he thought the first time he met me etc.... it sounds so twee but I loved it so much

I had a failure to progress and had a c-section, made everyone laugh lots with my observations on life prompted by my consumption of gas and air.

Then when they lifted DS up over the screen for me to see I commented "Its a boy! And I recognise him!!!" Magic moments! I kept saying "I've seen him before somewhere...!"

It was truly wonderful.

I'm having an elective section a week on monday and needed this thread so badly after the recent ones, so thank you! {grin]

specialmagiclady · 15/08/2008 21:45

I had two lovely births. One induced hospital birth, but luckily they were so busy I was left alone to get on with it, and even though they wanted to intervene I managed all by myself. Second one at home, no midwives but heavenly doula. Blissikins.

I would give birth lots and lots given the choice. I'm not so keen on looking after the little blighters though!

Cammelia · 15/08/2008 21:54

Both mine were positively enjoyable.
