there are so many sad sad threads here of women who have had truly awful times, and someone (sorry, can;t think who now), commented that we only really here the awful stuff and never the nice births.

so, in some type of helpful way, maybe we can have a thread where women can go that can be an encouragement that some births can be lovely and fabuous........VB and CS births.

will post this now and then come and say mine

My first was long but straight forward, I was relaxed and DS1 was born very easily causing me no damage whatsoever!

DS2 was born at home and I was really chilled out! It was an amazing birth and he was born with just a bit of gas and air in 3 pushes! Again, no damage at all!

I can honestly say, I enjoyed both, but the second at home was far better.

I'd def do it all again if we had the money!

xx

Psycho- yes, because she helped me to get the HB after I was refused; it meant I wasnt worried about being alone if transferred ( DH needed to take kids to Mum's 60 miles away), and she could tell the MW to turn around as baby was popping out and MW had back to me PMSL

OrmIrian · 15/08/2008 12:46

Yes. I had three really. Painful, exhausting yes, but also exhilirating and largely problem-free. First time was a bit overwhelming. Second and third were better because I knew what to expect and I was in control. All hospital births, but all very active not flat on my back, no drugs or stitches second and third time. Third one a little worrying as there was risk that DS#2 had Downs but all was well.

psychomum5 · 15/08/2008 12:47

I do read the doula threads sometimes, and I was a birth partner for a friend once (massive massive high after for me, let alone her), and I do wonder at times if doula's should be compulsory.

I know that if I (by some miracle) had more that I would want either a doula or very close woman friend with me to speak for me in the way that DH would not be able to (simply as he has no idea just how strong our feelings are regarding birth!)

Two lovely ones, both induced.

That moment when you think it can't hurt any more, and then suddenly a baby whooshes out of you - it is priceless.

To be honest, I am pg with number 3, and it is the labour I am looking forward to!

DillyTanty · 15/08/2008 12:50

only had one so far... waters broke at 38 weeks, had to be induced cos of strep b. 7 hours in total, i'd do it again in a heartbeat. yes, it hurt, but not in a 'i'm going mad' way, more in a 'crikey, who is this woman inside me whose dealing with this pain? i'm impressed with her'. and jesus christ, when you get the baby in your arms (and when they bring you toast...) there is NOTHING like it.

psychomum5 · 15/08/2008 12:50

do you wonder (going on a couple of comments in here, and one from myself), if it is down to how in control we are...whether that is what makes the difference?

I had a great birth.
Labour just under 6 hours from show to delivery.

Sat in bath at home for most of it. Got to hospital fully dilated adn dd arrived very quickly after arrival.

Only thing wrong - i was on my back, couldn't get on to my front as contractions were very close together. but apart from that, fine

DillyTanty · 15/08/2008 12:54

dunno. i trusted my obs implicitly, all i wanted was for me and dd to be 'safe' so i wasn't married to the whole 'natural' birth thing, so i felt very taken care of.
mine was in a medical suite, but low lights and a lovely midwife, i didn't feel rushed or left alone to cope. i'm sure that made a difference.

JiminyCricket · 15/08/2008 12:54

birth of dd2 was better than any drug, never felt so euphoric it was a waterbirth at home

sweetkitty · 15/08/2008 12:55

I've had 3 pretty OK ones, two homebirths. The last one was the best 1h 35m start to finish painful but not too bad with the lovely gas and air. It's all worth it when they come out though and you see them for the first time.

I remember the crowning more and the way she shot out without me even having to push more like she was expelled, I love it when they are just out still attached and snuggling up to you rooting

Peachy · 15/08/2008 12:57

Bbobz, hope what I posted on the toher thread was OK for you

maidamess · 15/08/2008 13:00

Yes, delivering my son was like having the most satisfying dump of my life.

SheBangsTheDrums · 15/08/2008 13:01

My first birth was lovely in the end. I had 4 days of early labour and was 5 cm when I was eventually admitted to hospital. I was in a room on my own in the antenatal ward reading a book and sucking on the gas and air, my waters went at about 4am and DH was rang. We went to the CDS and after a couple of hours I gave birth listening to Ian Brown, it was so quiet and peaceful (apart from my cd!), it was just coming light outside the window (midwinter) and the MW just sat there really and left DH and I to it. I pushed for about 15 mins and had 1 stitch.

It hurt like hell but was nice somehow!

Fast forward 17 months to my DD, I was induced at 36 weeks due to PROM the pain was more intense and there was a Dr, a MW and a student all telling me what to do. Wasn't anywhere near as nice but wouldn't stop me doing it again!!

psychomum5 · 15/08/2008 13:02

lol maidamess.........not quite what I meant by lovely births, but I am sure that you achieved huge satisfaction anyway

It's great peachy - perfect! And I love you son's name - might steal it ;)

MrsWeasley · 15/08/2008 13:09

I had 4 lovely experiences, all 4 were normal v births. Gas and air with each and despite one being a large baby (just over 11lbs) no stitches. This was one of my big worries with each birth. I tend to go into a world of my own and not always hear what the MW says(I blame the gas and air), so I explained this and they were great and didn't get feed up of repeating themselves.

Brilliant each time, of course it hurt but then so does stubbing your toe and I know which I would prefer to do

Pinkjenny · 15/08/2008 13:15

I had a planned CS as dd was breech. It was very relaxed and informal, and a wonderful atmosphere with a truly marvellous team.

It was fab.

possiblymaybe · 15/08/2008 13:17

I too had a really lovely birth..

It hurt, it was long but I was in charge all the time, had a lovely, lovely midwife to help(left her a bottle of a very good champagne I felt so grateful).
The wholeexperience made me feel very powerful and happy.
And I too have this glowing feeling when I think about it.

laundrylover · 15/08/2008 13:28

I really enjoyed both my births. Both were in hospital even though the second started out as a homebirth and I had very long labours (over 2 days of regular contractions) both times.

For DD1 I was standing up and mooing, for DD2 I was sat up but had a mirror so watched her being born. Fab.

Giving birth is one of the main things that keeps me thinking about number 3 though....the babies themselves were bloody hard work and now they are 4 and 2 OMG!! For me giving birth was the easiest bit in all honesty.

MuffinMclay · 15/08/2008 13:30

Yes, with ds2 (don't remember much about ds1's - too much gas and air!).

Yes, it hurt (a lot), but it was very quick indeed (just over an hour start to finish), and the 2 mws who looked after me couldn't have been nicer or more supportive.

girlsallaround · 15/08/2008 13:36

both were lovely and i think mainly because i took epidural, does that count?

in the second one my doctor did something that really made the experience special for my dh and i attribute his strong bond with dd2 to that

suedonim · 15/08/2008 13:37

I've had both types of births, (all 'normal' deliveries) awful and exhilarating. The best was my last, No4, in which I felt in control for all except the last few mins. Even so, I said to dh immediately afterwards that should I be called upon to give birth again, I'd prefer to have an epidural for the entire nine months.

ghosty · 15/08/2008 13:45

I had two CSs ... first was terrible and awful etc etc
Second was the most amazing experience of my life - my Birth Announcement on MN tells the amazing buzz I felt about it all here, about 2/3 of the way down.
I still look at that birth announcement every now and again and get all misty eyed about it. DD is 4 and a half now ...
