What gestation did you give birth?

Curious to know! For those of you who are 100% sure on the date of conception, what gestation did you give birth?

I’m sure on my due date, however the NHS have put me a week earlier which is obviously impossible. I imagine baby is just measuring bigger than expected. I’m sure I’ll be encouraged to induce or book a c section if baby is ‘overdue’.

When I’m ‘40 weeks’, I’ll actually be 39 weeks based off when I know we conceived.

So, did your baby come on the due date you calculated or were they early/late?!

40+2 with my first and 38+2 with my second both inductions.

Madden21 · 30/04/2025 23:51

@InsertUsernameHereeeeIs that based of your dates or NHS dates? Did they move your dates despite you telling them you know when you conceived?

42 weeks, EMCS, no labour. nhs went off period which now I actually think was implantation so I actually think I was over 42weeks.

InsertUsernameHereeee · 30/04/2025 23:54

@Madden21 yes was right with my first however was pretty sure my second was 2 weeks behind. Even when I gave birth the midwife and health visitor both said he looked to be around 36 weeks which was a slight shock.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 30/04/2025 23:55

Approximately that of an African elephant

C section following failed induction at 42+3 dates are absolutely rock solid (IVF so we know conception to about a 12 hour window).

Whyx · 30/04/2025 23:55

Op, Do you know when you ovulated? Sperm can survive inside for days.the NHS dates are based on the first day of your last period as that is the start of the cycle. So on the date of conception you are already classed as two weeks pregnant iirc.

Madden21 · 30/04/2025 23:55

@MaraudingmaraudersInteresting! Did they try to induce you first?

OP posts:
Madden21 · 30/04/2025 23:57

@WhyxYes I know exactly when I ovulated. We had sex the day of and the day after. It’s literally impossible for me to be due when they say I am! We hadn’t slept together for 3 weeks before that

Madden21 · 30/04/2025 23:59

@GetDressedYouMerryGentlemenIt’s really interesting. But basically if and when I get to ‘41 weeks’ and they start hounding me I’ll be politely declining unless there is a serious concern for myself or my baby as I know I’ll actually only just be 40 weeks.

@WhyxAlso to add they had my date correct when I went for an early scan at 7w (they based that on my last period) and then they changed it based on measurements at my 12w scan and didn’t care when my last period was.

I’d been begging for an induction for a week. They got as far as putting my cannula in, put me on the monitor and then pushed the red panic button.
id been in hospital for nearly a week before being ‘monitored’ whilst I waited for a bed on labour ward with high blood pressure and despite us repeatedly telling them his heart rate was dropping they apparently knew better, until the midwife finally starting my induction looked at his chart and went into emergency mode. Born less than 30mins later, double cord round his neck, no amniotic fluid, covered in meconium and with an infection.
if I ever have another I’m having a planned section at 39 or 40 weeks, I’d never risk going over again.

That sounds horrendous I’m so sorry you experienced that. I hope you have healed from the trauma since and your baby is okay now!

Mine was some years ago now nothing was done until I was 42 week. Friends in other areas and even some locally were getting sweeps, being offered inductions and even C-sections but noone seemed to give a crap that I was well overdue and confident of my dates.

Yes thanks all good, just a lingering mistrust of medical professionals (I say that slightly tongue in cheek, my SIL is a Dr)

This is so bizarre it's best practice to go off an early dating scan (once it's minimum 7 weeks). It's definitely more accurate than a 12 week scan. I don't work in the UK but we'd definitely change dates if an early scan had been done.

I agree. I mean I’m not a professional but the 7 week scan was 7+4 and was spot on. Once I got to the 12 week scan they changed the dates to put me a week earlier which is literally impossible. I understand sperm can live but we hadn’t had sex so not possible in this case haha

I had no idea when I conceived, dd arrived bang on the due date I was given.

Mooselooseinmyhoose · 01/05/2025 09:06

With my youngest I knew exactly when conceived as (now ex) husband was away the two weeks before and for a week after. They had my dates a week earlier than was possible. I needed inducing and refused at their suggested time (can't remember what point that was). He was born at 42+2 on their dates which was 41+2 on actual. He was absolutely massive though (11lb 8) but that's another story!

princesspadam · 01/05/2025 09:47

40+4
40+12
40+16

thank god I didn’t go for No.4

Utterlyincandescently · 01/05/2025 10:23

41 weeks exactly, according to my dates. 40+4 by their dates, but I knew the exact day we conceived because it was a condom mishap lol

Whenyoupickapawpaw · 03/05/2025 13:25

41+3, first time mum. Waters broke on the day of my planned induction and contractions started soon after.

lilylooleelala · 03/05/2025 13:34

My daughter came exactly on her due date, very early morning/midnight.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/05/2025 13:35

I was 10 days early with ds1 and ds3, and a week early with ds2.

DelphiniumBlue · 03/05/2025 13:50

36 weeks, 37 weeks, 37 weeks.
I think 40 weeks is an average, except of course no one goes to 42/43 weeks these days. So not an average in the true sense of the word, more a sort of approximation.

BakewellGin1 · 03/05/2025 13:54

I was 35 weeks and 39 weeks with mine.

I knew my exact date with first as me and DH were only just getting back together and he was away with work both before and after.

Imagine the chaos it caused when they insisted date of conception was two weeks prior (which was actually impossible as no sex with anyone never mind DH)... yeah thanks midwives that was helpful to the newly rekindled relationship!!
