So curious and excited!

OP posts:

DD1 - Sat down and was told how DH was going to use his paternity leave to reshell an old car he had and ended up in a row.

DD2 - DH put her straight in the pram and took her to show her off at school picking up DD1. I tried to go to bed due to being 48hrs after CS to find no bedding on it.

We're no longer together.

Doubledded123 · 06/02/2025 21:41

Honestly can't remember, probably x cuppa and a lay down!
Ds2 left him in the moses basket.. he was so quiet!

Bells3032 · 06/02/2025 21:41

1st it was 1am and i had been in hospital for a week due to waters breaking at 33+6 and arriving at 34+1. So I cried. I cried for joy that my tiny baby was healthy enough to come home without the NICU. and then i went to bed, cos it was 1am and i hadn't slept in a week

2nd was about 8pm. I showered and then went to bed. she wasn't even 24 hours old yet

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 06/02/2025 21:43

My first child was born 38 years ago so recollections may differ. It was in the days when first time mothers were kept in for six days. We hadn't got a cot or pram because of superstition and, to our horror, the ward had an infection in it, so we were all discharged early. It was a Sunday and the pram shop was closed. What to do? So my ds spent his first night at home in a drawer, neatly wrapped in a shawl. I think I cried. Then slept. I remember my exh trying to wake me because the baby was crying and I told him it wasn't my baby and to leave me alone.

NomorekittensSteve · 06/02/2025 21:44

Sit on the sofa and order pizza hut 😆 I had GD so deserved a treat!

Scutterbug · 06/02/2025 21:45

I remember with my first we put her down in the floor in her car seat and then I said to DH “what do we do now?”! I couldn’t quite believe I’d been allowed home with something so precious 😂
Then we had a takeaway curry and a glass of fizz.

Stared at him in bewilderment that we were now responsible for this tiny human 😂

This is pretty much it as I recall!

JustRollWithIt · 06/02/2025 21:48

Left him in the car seat in the middle of the rug for the dog to come over and have a good sniff! Best friends they were ever since

Hoochyvida · 06/02/2025 21:49

We had been in hospital for 9 days and it was during Covid so I hadn't been allowed out of the room. It was unbelievable to see the outside world again, even on a 10 min car journey.

Baby went into his moses basket, my husband had put up a lovely welcome home banner and the cats came to say hello. We had a Wagamamas for dinner, next to the Christmas tree as it was almost Christmas Eve.

Then I went to bed and slept. I hadn't slept more than 2 hours in a row for 9 days. It was heaven. I remember being able to lie on my back in my own bed (first time in months!) and feeling so comfortable. I think I crept in to check on husband and baby at about 4am and they were doing just fine with a nappy change and a bottle. Lovely times.

DevilledEgg · 06/02/2025 21:51

Well baby 1 was 8 weeks old and it was my birthday so we had a party. I expressed a shit ton of milk on the way home. Had a Bacardi breezer and ate real food for the first time in 2 months.
Baby 2 was 4 days old and the first thing we did was get in the car and drive back to the hospital cause jaundice developed in the 20 minutes journey home.

Have kids they said, kids are easy, they said 🙄 🤣🤣🤣

Thisismeme · 06/02/2025 16:52

I think I just sat on the sofa and we left him in the car seat for the cats to approach and say hello

Pretty much this for us too....DH and me both just sat there shell-shocked and crying for a little while though, as we couldn't beleive that tiny person was ours forever.....feeling like the luckiest people ever, but also that we now had such a huge responsibility to keep them safe and well cared for for so many years, which was overwhelming! I had been in hospital for 5 days after a relatively difficult labour, so I think it all hit me when I left there, as I was an emotional wreck the whole way back!

Ferrazzuoli · 06/02/2025 21:52

Gave him to DH and fell into bed!

Edited to add: DH had had a full nights sleep the night before, whereas I'd been trying to sleep in a noisy hospital ward.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/02/2025 21:53

Put him in his moses basket while we sorted out about 5 bunches of flowers that had been left on the doorstep and thought about making bottles up and then having lunch. DH made me the best poached eggs on toast I'd ever had in my life then I tried to have a little doze on the sofa but the phone kept going to ask how we were. So I decided to go and try to take my time having a scary poo instead. 😆

Notgivenuphope · 06/02/2025 21:55

Went to Costas - needed coffee!
a bunch of old ladies who had been to a crochet group all cooed over DS. Some hadn’t held a baby that small since their own.

Justgivemehotchocolate · 06/02/2025 21:57

Got home in the evening, put ds on the floor in his carseat and said "what do we do now". We sat there watching him sleep thinking there was no point going to bed/sleep ourselves as he would wake up any minute, 5 hours later he was still asleep and we were regretting not going to sleep ourselves. He never slept that long again for many many months.😭

Apollo365 · 06/02/2025 21:57

Ordered Domino’s pizza - I actually got cheese on his head 🤣 (third baby soooo 🤷🏻‍♀️)
I was utterly ravenous!

Workisntworking · 06/02/2025 21:58

I took her around the house, showing her her new home.

Stared at him in bewilderment that we were now responsible for this tiny human 😂

This! Sat him in his car seat in the middle of the sitting room and just looked at him wondering what on earth to do next!

overthinkersanonnymus · 06/02/2025 22:01

What a lovely thread!

Attictroll · 06/02/2025 22:03

I had read in some woo book about showing baby their home so whilst dp ran to supermarket I walked round our flat with a 3 day old introducing them to each room🫢😂🤯 feels both silly's and sweet looking back. But I had waited so long for my baby

Lairymary · 06/02/2025 22:04

Cried because the house was a tip. I had spent three days in hospital against my will being pressured into breast feeding when she simply wouldn't latch (tongue tie). Partner (self employed) still had to work so couldn't sort the house so EVERYTHING (the mess) was the same as when we had left for the hospital. It was miserable. Then the startling realisation as I stood at the sink washing bottles at 9 o'clock in the evening, that life would never be the same and I couldn't ever come home from work and lounge around until bedtime ever again. 🥲

Ladamesansmerci · 06/02/2025 22:04

Breastfed and snuggled baby on the sofa and ordered an Indian takeaway. I'd been in for a few days after my section and I'd not eaten tons as I felt sick/had no energy, so I was thrilled to order rubbish 🤣 and I did nothing but hold and cuddle and kiss my baby, and still do the same now when she allows it, 8 months later lol.

TeainanIV · 06/02/2025 22:06

With DD1 I demolished a McDonalds - we'd had a week stay in hospital and I was craving a cheeseburger! There's a photo of me breastfeeding and polishing it off 😅

With DD2 my husband ordered me a huge sushi platter - I'd missed it so much throughout my pregnancy!

Clearly I am very food orientated!!

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 06/02/2025 22:08

Changed his nappy I think!

Doveyouknow · 06/02/2025 22:09

Tidied up the flat (we had left in a rush!) ready for visitors. We couldn't wait to show off ds to the family 🙂
