Just curious what other peoples experiences were when they got their first period after childbirth ? I'm 7 weeks PP tomorrow and still ah ent had a period and I'm dreading it as I'm sure it's going to be the mother of all periods .

Are you breastfeeding as that can have an effect?

Hohofortherobbers · 27/07/2024 21:19

Depends if you're bf

Conversat1onswithfriends · 27/07/2024 21:19

Are you breastfeeding? I had mine soon after I stopped expressing, about 10 weeks postpartum. It was heavy but I used to get cripplingly painful periods and this time I felt no pain at all.

Motherrr · 27/07/2024 21:19

Think it was about 8 months ish? When the night time breastfeeding tapered off.

Seems to vary a lot

RobertSalamander · 27/07/2024 21:20

Are you breastfeeding? With my 3rd I was attempting to breastfeed and had a period at 4 weeks post partum, how fucking cruel is that!!!

With my second I was formula feeding and I think that was about 6 weeks. Contacted the midwife as I was worried I was still bleeding so long after birth!!

I mention the method of feeding as obviously the hormones play a part.

MigGirl · 27/07/2024 21:20

13 months, but I was breastfeeding. It can vary a lot.

MsMajeika · 27/07/2024 21:20

I BF both of mine for a few years. With the first, my period came back at 5 months. With the second, around 18 months.

My periods have always been ridiculously heavy and extremely painful. Since giving birth, they are still heavy but I have zero cramps! 🎉 You might find your periods are better than before.

Sprogonthetyne · 27/07/2024 21:21

I breastfeed, so it was about 18 months later. For a while I was worried it wouldn't return before I wanted to ttc No2.

Nursemumma92 · 27/07/2024 21:24

I had one at 4 months PP with my first who I only breastfed for 1 month. With my second I didn't get one until I stopped breastfeeding at 16 months.

itsmschanandlerbong · 27/07/2024 21:25

I exclusively breastfed and for both of my children it came around 7 weeks 😭😭

Heartbreaktuna · 27/07/2024 22:22

I BF'd to 16 months. Period came back at 9 months. I was staying in a air BNB, it came on over night very heavy 😭 ruined a mattress.

Olika · 27/07/2024 22:25

I was bf and it took me 6 months. Mine were lighter than usual for some time but since no bf they have gone back to how they were pre pregnancy, ☹️

westcountrywoman · 27/07/2024 22:27

5 months with DC1 and about 7 months with DC2. EBF both but DC1 was sleeping 10pm-6am by 4 months which obviously started things off.

SilenceInside · 27/07/2024 22:27

13 months and 15 months for me, breastfeeding for longer than that nothing times, but it correlated to when night feeds completely stopped.

It's massively variable, can be 4 weeks after for some.

garlichorse · 27/07/2024 22:30

5m with both dcs, BF both until 3.5 yrs.

peonyjam · 27/07/2024 22:30

I EBF including all through the night and it came back almost 6 months to the day.

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 27/07/2024 22:31

Any chance you could be pregnant?

DrJump · 27/07/2024 22:32

Between 15-18 months for me.

DramaAlpaca · 27/07/2024 22:32

I EBF and mine came back at four months postpartum.

elliejjtiny · 27/07/2024 22:33

6 weeks. I breastfed all of them to at least 6 months. I felt robbed!

MayoMayoMayo · 27/07/2024 22:35

Breastfed for 18 months and came back at 7 months I think?

Blisterly · 27/07/2024 22:39

Breastfed and mine came back in 4wks. It wasn’t too heavy, slightly heavier than usual but mine have always been light.

Fargo79 · 27/07/2024 22:41

Over a year for periods to start after each baby. But I breastfed them for well over 2 years each. Periods were very heavy and painful for probably the first year after they restarted each time but settled after that.

YorkshireTeaBiscuits · 27/07/2024 22:46

12 months after baby 1 and 18 months after baby 2 and yes the first period after each baby was epic.
