bunnyrabbit · 06/04/2008 18:04

LOL

Lulumama · 06/04/2008 18:47

i am also eating, in sympathy...

bunnyrabbit · 06/04/2008 18:53

I'm going to have a sherry naughty bunny

Lulumama · 06/04/2008 18:54

a small sherry is fine. have it in the bath, with some candles lit and do your visualisation

ToastAddict · 06/04/2008 19:10

Well, it's very quiet on the PFJ front - lets hope she's doing her thing!!

Popping over from the April thread (not due for two weeks and happy to wait for now!!) to ask for your combined wisdom and advice - Syntometrine to speed up the placenta delivery - good or bad? From what I can see, it reduces your risk of bleeding but can increase risk of bits of the placenta being retained. There also seems to be some debate about whether the baby needs those last few minutes of blood to be pumped from placenta..... this is the last bit of my "birth plan" (which is pretty vague atm) that I'm not sure about. fwiw, this is my first baby, I'm having her in hospital (I hope!), I'm open to all forms of pain relief if I need them, but I don't want things to get over-medicalised for the sake of it.

Thanks for any advice/opinions
x

VictorianSqualor · 06/04/2008 20:01

I may have a glass of red, in the bath, now this visualising thing, tell me more lulu, I've been doing it but am hoping I've missed something vital so next time it works!

Lulumama · 06/04/2008 20:08

toastaddict : you can only have a physiological 3rd stage if you have a drug free ( i.e nothing more than gas & air) delivery. you can ask for the cord to stop pulsing before it is cut, regardless, IIRC. yes, there is a good argument the baby should get all the blood in the cord. unless there is a huge hurry to get hte cord clamped and cut you can request it stops pulsing. also , if the baby takes a minute to breathe, then you know he/she is still getting the oxygen thye need.

victorian: the visualisation can be either or both of these: a calm, relaxed place you can go to in your mind when you are in labour, and strong images of how you want the birht. i used the image of my cervix opening, smothly and slowly, like a budding flower, as you know, i did not dilate in my first labour, so this was a key thing for me. choose something that works for you

Lulumama · 06/04/2008 20:09

VS, it is more about connecting with your baby and the birth in a positive way, than making somehthing happen

Peachy · 07/04/2008 06:29

Just a quick one- Sebastian George born at 12.34 this morning, 8lbs 3oz, feeding well and now asleep- will post proper story later, just popped down for pain relief.

Lulumama · 07/04/2008 07:16

bless you and congratulations peachy, just got a little tear in my eye , so pleased you did not get induced. lots of love and welcome sebastien xxxx

CeylonSapphire · 07/04/2008 08:49

Congratulations Peachy - great news...

Can I gatecrash the thread? Am usually a lurker, but I'm now 40+3, and it's starting to do my head in a bit (I know, probably early days to really do my head in, but the waiting is driving me nuts).

My first baby, so not 100% sure what to be looking out for. I've had a bit of backache over the last couple of days, and slightly more discharge than usual. However, no show, no contractions (that I can recognise anyway!), no waters breaking, and just getting more and more frustrated, wondering if and when this might all kick off.

Words of wisdom, encouragement, tales all appreciated!

I'll be popping back to the thread every so often during the day...
TIA

fryalot · 07/04/2008 09:27

Peachy! well done girl! Will look out for the full birth story and be more effusively congratulatory there. Welcome Sebastian.

Right, you lot. One down.... lots to go.

welcome ceylon. I'll be here every day to make bacon/fakon butties

Backache sounds good and encouraging, it does sound like things are starting to happen, but it could still be a little while.

scorpio1 · 07/04/2008 09:29

just checking in, im still here, 39+3 today. Millie has taken longer now than ds2 by a day so far.

Hi Ceylon lots of extra discharge is said to signal the ripening of the cervix, getting ready.

MerlinsBeard · 07/04/2008 10:03

COngratulations Peachy Wishing you lots of strength i the next few weeks as i know from previous threads that life is stressful in the peachy house!

DonDons · 07/04/2008 10:36

Hello - mind if I join in? Am an ardent knicker checker (is EllieG aorund??)and have been lurking for a couple of days hoping that I could catch some labour symptoms from the rest of you.

Am 39 weeks tomorrow, no definitive signs of labour yet - occasional back ache and period type pains now and then (is that anything??).

Have been eating pineapple (uuurgh) for a week now, had a curry on Saturday and lots of raspberry leaf tabs in preparation but nothing doing. Have been pregnant for about 300 years now....
