If your 1st baby was a bit late, was your second early?

I know second babies tend to come quicker, but do they come earlier?

I read something recently (which I now can't find to reference) that suggested that women have their own individual timing system and that, typically for each individual person your babies will be born at the same gestational age (or close to).

Mine were both 5 days late (which is probably why I latched on to the article) but I'm sure there's loads of anecdotal evidence that will both support and contradict the theory. It was a scientific review though, not just a load of old-wives tales.

Very interesting and I would say that makes sense when I think of friends/family and timing of their babies.
E.g. my mum has all 4 of us about 10/12 days early.

My first was 2 days late so I'm expecting similar with this one now!!

Thanks all for sharing your experiences!

First 41+1 (30hrs)
Second 40+5 (8hrs)

My first was 8 days early so the midwives kept telling me to be prepared, and from around 38 weeks they told me "any day now". DC finally arrived 5 days late.

First labour was also just 1 hour and second was over 4 hours.

I did both things the wrong way round from what everyone says. 😁

fairtrauchled · 24/04/2023 17:59

First 4 days late
Second 3 days late
Both labours were around 2hrs

pikantna · 24/04/2023 18:00

No, but not as late
First was 15 days over, second 10 days, third 4 days

Ovaeasy · 24/04/2023 18:02

First was on due date
Second was 2 weeks late! Those were a long 2 weeks. The labour was also a lot longer.

AngeloMysterioso · 24/04/2023 18:42

1st baby 10 days late, 23 hour back to back labour
2nd baby 8 days late, 4 hour labour

Ringmaster27 · 24/04/2023 18:53

No pattern, rhyme or reason with any of mine 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
2 weeks early, 4 weeks early and bang on time.

Mine was later and longer labour.

mamaduckbone · 24/04/2023 19:24

Both of mine were 11 days late. Ds2 certainly was quicker though!

Wiccan · 24/04/2023 19:32

1st was 15 days late and 6 hr labour
2nd was 14 days early and 4 hr labour

TheExchange · 24/04/2023 19:33

6 days late
6 days late
5 days late

Charl881 · 24/04/2023 20:58

First was born at 38+1.

Currently 39+5 with second and they’re showing no sign of making an appearance.

Was convinced second would be early as well like my first, wish I’d not had that mindset as I now I feel like I’m overdue even though not yet at due date!

Mummyof287 · 24/04/2023 21:25

1st came naturally at 40+6 2nd induced at 40+3
