If your 1st baby was a bit late, was your second early?

I know second babies tend to come quicker, but do they come earlier?

My first was a day after due date, my second was several days before (but nowhere near premature). Weirdly, early on I went for my scan and was told I’d got the date wrong and she was born on that first date I’d worked out. I was still painting my dining room, so felt a little unprepared despite knowing all my signs were telling me i was close!

overitunderit · 24/04/2023 07:45

Mine both came late and second labour was even longer!

HowManySunflowers · 24/04/2023 07:46

First baby was 8 days late, second was 7 days late. It was much quicker though!

Bhyr358 · 24/04/2023 07:47

Both of mine were 2 weeks late. Both labours about the same length.

MsCatherine · 24/04/2023 07:48

My first was bang on time, next 2 were early by a few days. Punctuality is very important to me ;)

blanketsforall · 24/04/2023 07:58

All mine were late, one 10 days and the others 2 weeks.

Nursemumma92 · 24/04/2023 13:08

First was 5 days late, second was 9 days late!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/04/2023 13:10

First was 4 days late
second on due date

KateyCuckoo · 24/04/2023 13:15

10 days late
10 days early
3 days early

Topbird29 · 24/04/2023 13:17

First was 2 weeks past due date, and emergency c section due to distress in induced labour. All in all from start of induction was about 24 hours to delivery. 2nd was bang on due date, vaginal birth, labour about 8 hours.

GlobetrottingPercy · 24/04/2023 13:21

First was late and I went into labour at 38+1 with my second - was a big surprise!

thaegumathteth · 24/04/2023 13:33

Mine were both 13 very long days late

MushroomQueen · 24/04/2023 13:39

Not the same but all 3 of mine were early, 37 + 5, 37 + 4 but then my 3rd I had threatened labour at 31 weeks managed to stop contractions, I assumed it wold be 37 weeks again or earlier but not 38 +5 so it really does depend - it was extremely quick though, but longer. which was much better for baby in terms of jaundice. My friend has one at 38 weeks and the next two needed an induction to get them out at 41 weeks and almost 42 weeks. So it really can be a mixed bag. Another needed an induction at 41 the next 2 kids 1 at 38 w the other 40 weeks no inductions. (Just noticed all those I mentioned had 3 kids, just a coincidence not on purpose)

Nachobowls · 24/04/2023 13:46

All of mine was late, my first was actually the only one I went into Labour naturally with and was the most straight forward, my others were later and my youngest was the latest and needed an Emcs as I never went into Labour and they weren’t able to leave things any longer

ladyinthecampervan · 24/04/2023 13:47

I read something recently (which I now can't find to reference) that suggested that women have their own individual timing system and that, typically for each individual person your babies will be born at the same gestational age (or close to).

Mine were both 5 days late (which is probably why I latched on to the article) but I'm sure there's loads of anecdotal evidence that will both support and contradict the theory. It was a scientific review though, not just a load of old-wives tales.

PuttingDownRoots · 24/04/2023 13:48

40+5 then 40 exactly.

Second labour was very slightly longer (2 pushes vs 1!) And the second baby was slightly heavier.

ShadowPuppets · 24/04/2023 13:49

First was 40+3
Second was a planned CS at 39+4 (was going to be 39+2 but two days of emergencies scuppered it!) I wasn’t having any symptoms and strongly suspect DC2 would have been later if left to go naturally.

cptartapp · 24/04/2023 13:52

First one was five days late.
Second one was eight days late.

JustMaggie · 24/04/2023 14:00

My first was 1 day early and my 2nd was 6 days early (and a very fast labour!)

Biscuitsneeded · 24/04/2023 14:06

1st was 40+10, but facing the wrong way (head down but face up) which probably delayed things.
2nd was 39+3 which was a big surprise as I was expecting to go well overdue again!

Jessiexx80 · 24/04/2023 14:10

First was exactly 2 weeks late and second exactly 2 weeks early!!

rogueone · 24/04/2023 14:11

first was ten days late and my second was 15

WolfSky · 24/04/2023 14:11

First was 6 days late and second was 10 days late, I really hoped she was going to arrive earlier than he did!

ThisOneNow · 24/04/2023 14:41

1st - 5 days early
2nd - induced at 10 days late

bluebunnyblue · 24/04/2023 14:43

1st 42+2!
2nd 38+5

both the same weight though….
