Home Birth Planned - Overdue

Hi all,

I'm currently 41 + 1 and hoping to have a home water birth.

According to my hospital they will only allow you to go Term + 12 which will take me to Tuesday.

I've had a sweep yesterday and apparently the "Presenting part (head) is still high" my notes say 3 above spine. Also in my notes on my 20wk scan (was 20+1) it was reading I was 19+6 and 19+2 depending on different measurements.

I'm absolutely petrified of having to go into hospital to be induced. What rights do I have to refuse the induction and still have a homebirth? Can I use the fact that at 20 weeks I was possibly only 19 and therefore now only actually 6 days over?

Thanks all

I am back, couldn't face the stares and whispers, am going to get in to trouble when I go to school this afternoon, oh well

Jen the experience of a home water and an induction are very different,, but at the same time, if that is what is best for the health of you and your baby then it has to be done.

Redadmiral has just said how a C/S doesn't have to be the end of the world, and honestly induction doesn't have to be either.

Besides sounds to me like the fear is starting to kick in, that is when you know something is going to happen!

Just keep in your head that you can and will get through this, it is one of the first major sacrifices you will do for your baby.

Hope the swimming is letting you relax a bit

Jen honestly induction isnt that bad think of the baby xxxxxxxxxxx love ya

Am amazed at MWs saying pain in lower belly/back is not labour! That's where you often get pain when your cervix is dilating...(and if they don't think it is labour then the pain is...what???). Tsssk [kisses teeth]

Good luck!!

NatalieJane · 15/01/2008 09:58

Awww Lota, you gone all soppy

redadmiral · 15/01/2008 09:58

Spillage: In my case it was because the contractions, though very painful, weren't regular.

Spillage21 · 15/01/2008 10:09

Well it may be the latent phase of labour, in which case contractions aren't regular but cervix beginning to shorten and dilate. So not 'official' labour (fully effaced, >3cm, regular contractions, etc) but certainly going in the right direction...

Has been likened to starting an elderly car on a cold day!

One last thing, and I'm happy to stand corrected... Even though I had to stay on the bed for some of the time when I was in labour because the midwives were concerned about the cord getting trapped, I think I would have been better lying on my left side than on my back, and for some reason I forgot that at the time...

yes, we will wait quietly, patiently and supportively, with knitting and cakes, and lots of lovely inspiring birth books

NatalieJane · 15/01/2008 16:26

Oh I'm not good at quiet, patience, or support (my boobs can vouch for that!!! )

lulumama · 15/01/2008 16:33

listen, lady , we did a 6 week labour watch for you !!

go and bake something ! that will pass the time

NatalieJane · 15/01/2008 16:41

That is so just like, not the point!!!!

LOL

It is exhausting all this 'waiting for others to birth' lark, don't know how you do it all the time!

MarsLady · 15/01/2008 23:24

So are you having the baby or are you bored of this thread?

lulumama · 15/01/2008 23:25

NatalieJane · 16/01/2008 10:48

Hi Lily, feel free to but in

No, no news yet, fingers crossed she is having/has had the baby one way or the other.

How over due are you?

lilyloo · 16/01/2008 10:51

i 40+11 today and have my dreaded induction Friday wanted a h/birth as well same as Lucky
She was suppose to come out yesterday wasn't she and go in tonight , hope all's well and like you say she has had or is having baby already!

NatalieJane · 16/01/2008 10:54

It is hellish being so overdue.

I had a HB planned as well but was induced due to PE at 41+1, I kept telling Jen that induction doesn't have to be as bad as some people go through.

I actually quite enjoyed last time, the first time I was induced wasn't quite as pleasant, but still no where near some of the horror stories I've read.

lilyloo · 16/01/2008 10:57

That's good to hear Natalie this is dc no.3 and i was induced with ds no.1 and it was awful took two days and assisted with forceps, awful stitches etc.
DD was a dream 5 days early and the reason i hoped to have home water birth!
Obviously didn't want induction again but i guess no two are the same ?

Beetroot · 16/01/2008 10:59

has luckysalem had her baby?
