Home Birth Planned - Overdue

Hi all,

I'm currently 41 + 1 and hoping to have a home water birth.

According to my hospital they will only allow you to go Term + 12 which will take me to Tuesday.

I've had a sweep yesterday and apparently the "Presenting part (head) is still high" my notes say 3 above spine. Also in my notes on my 20wk scan (was 20+1) it was reading I was 19+6 and 19+2 depending on different measurements.

I'm absolutely petrified of having to go into hospital to be induced. What rights do I have to refuse the induction and still have a homebirth? Can I use the fact that at 20 weeks I was possibly only 19 and therefore now only actually 6 days over?

Thanks all

My cut is healing ok.... got told off by the midwives today for not taking it easy enough. I left the hospital yesterday anaemic. Should have been over 11 and was only 7 ahh well.

My brain is getting over everything as well now which is good. I can visualise what happened and why and it makes me feel so much better for it.

The main thing I remember is having such conviction to have my baby at home and pushing through the pain all the way through until they said hospital. After that I lost the plot, I just remember near enough screaming all the way until they put the epidural in (which btw, BRILLIANT)

BFing is going ok although she'll only take to the left side so might have to end up expressing the other side (MW's think she can't cope with my nipple on that side)

Glad to hear you are ok and recovering well and i think most new mums are anaemic, it's part of having a baby, plenty of greens, dark choc and tlc is whats needed, which i am sure you are getting plenty of!! Although not the same i was told off by midwife, i had dd2 at home and was up more or less straight away putting washing on and sorting out kids sarnies for school for next day, i just find it hard to live with mess also, i have an urge to tidy. Once again shes beautiful!! i have 2 friends due nxt mth at around the same time so i can't wait to have a cuddle!! I don't think there will be anymore babies for me!!

specialmagiclady · 19/01/2008 23:17

Have you tried acupuncture and super hot curry? I found these brilliant for helping get DS2 out. They were useless for DS1, mind, and he was induced. If it's any consolation, both were born naturally, apart from a tiny bit of prostaglandin in the case of DS1. And because it was the middle of the night and the midwives were so overworked, I was alone for much of my labour and could do what I wanted as far as staying active etc.

Oh look, SML! You need to read the whole thread. Well done you for getting her out and enjoy her!

I have the opposite concern to going over due, both my other children were born at 38 weeks and so if i go into labour at 37wks (this week) I have to go to hospital. One thing in my favour is that I had a dating scan this time so they are going on this date which is earlier than my date, so hopfully this gives me a few more days. TENS machine arrived this morning and the rest of the equipment arrives (lots of gas and air ordered) tomorrow so If I can keep my legs crossed until sunday I will get my homebirth!!
