Home Birth Planned - Overdue

Hi all,

I'm currently 41 + 1 and hoping to have a home water birth.

According to my hospital they will only allow you to go Term + 12 which will take me to Tuesday.

I've had a sweep yesterday and apparently the "Presenting part (head) is still high" my notes say 3 above spine. Also in my notes on my 20wk scan (was 20+1) it was reading I was 19+6 and 19+2 depending on different measurements.

I'm absolutely petrified of having to go into hospital to be induced. What rights do I have to refuse the induction and still have a homebirth? Can I use the fact that at 20 weeks I was possibly only 19 and therefore now only actually 6 days over?

Thanks all

I haven't heard anything yet

amitymama · 14/01/2008 14:04

I'm new here but just wanted to pop in and give my encouragement to Lucky Salem and hope that all has gone well. I'm planning a homebirth for this baby I'm pg with now and it's good to read about all the possible obstacles and arguments that might be thrown my way. I wish more people were educated enough about birth to not be so scared of women having babies at home.

Hi and welcome Amity

Congrat's on the pregnancy, how far along are you?

I think, from what I can gather, more places are coming round to the idea of a home birth, but I think the sticking point is the shortage of midwives.

When I asked for a home water birth (which ended up an induction due to pre-eclampsia) the only thing the midwife was worried about was that I had a 'proper' birthing pool, she said she'd done a home water birth the year before and she had managed to tip the whole pool out, in the woman's living room!

Anyway, have fun getting to know MN, if you get as addicted as the rest of us, I am sure we'll be bumping into each other again!

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 16:47

Hiya wannaBe

26 hours? lol

laughalot · 14/01/2008 16:48

Thats when I crapped myself

lulumama · 14/01/2008 16:48

could be, 24 hours for a first baby is not that unusual.....

maybe i sent pushing vibes too early

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 16:52

ROFL Lota I was so scared of pooing before I went into labour, promised muyself I wouldn't, by the time pushing time was upon me, I couldn't have cared less if 5 elephants and a monkey came out as long as the pain went!

ooooo, so glad mine wasn't 24 hours, I couldn't have pushed after all that, though I only had 4 mins of pushing with DS2 so I might have been able to! Would rather not find out for sure though

laughalot · 14/01/2008 16:54

As you can see I dont change

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 16:59

LOL, wouldn't want you to my lovely

lulumama · 14/01/2008 16:59

most women do poo in the second stage

or even a bit before

a good sign baby is nearly here

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 17:02

Yeah but when you are 9 (and a half) months pregnant, the thought of doing a poo, that is going to float to the top for easy removal, in front of near strangers with their hands up your erm..... jacksie even though you know most women do it, is quite frankly scarey!!!

Scared me anyway! Little did I know just how much I wouldn't care less at the actual time!

lulumama · 14/01/2008 17:04

you are right , of course !

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 17:06

My sister gave herself piles from trying to push but not poo, and she still poo'ed LOL

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 18:51

C'mon Marsy, wheres the lemon drizzle cake??

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 18:52

where'*s even!

lulumama · 14/01/2008 20:08

well.....

i guess we shall carry on sitting quietly and waiting..

LuckySalem · 14/01/2008 20:21

No baby,

Apparently head is the wrong way... (should be resting on it's chest but its lifted in the air) The pain i'm getting is under my bump really sharp period pains that hurt like hell and keep coming in mountains but according to Midwife it's not labour.

Got to go for a monitoring tomorrow at 2pm. Got a feeling i'm going to end up in hospital anyway.

Sorry for keeping you all waiting so long but I didn't sleep last night was hurting too much. I think in the last 24-48 hours i've had about 4/5 hours kip. [yawn] Still can't sleep now!!
