Home Birth Planned - Overdue

Hi all,

I'm currently 41 + 1 and hoping to have a home water birth.

According to my hospital they will only allow you to go Term + 12 which will take me to Tuesday.

I've had a sweep yesterday and apparently the "Presenting part (head) is still high" my notes say 3 above spine. Also in my notes on my 20wk scan (was 20+1) it was reading I was 19+6 and 19+2 depending on different measurements.

I'm absolutely petrified of having to go into hospital to be induced. What rights do I have to refuse the induction and still have a homebirth? Can I use the fact that at 20 weeks I was possibly only 19 and therefore now only actually 6 days over?

Thanks all

Period pains are good!

Now did you get a good night' sleep last night?

Enjoy your walk but don't overdo it!

LuckySalem · 13/01/2008 11:39

Oh I slept like a log without DP stealing the covers and whacking me with his arms... lol..

ditto mars

you don;t have to agree to be induced because labour ward is busy. tell them what hte supervisor of MWs signed off , if there is an issue

your body

your baby

your choice

and it sounds like things are moving

pressure in your back passage also good

things are moving

keep the faith!!

LuckySalem · 13/01/2008 11:43

I'm determined to ignore them as much as I can. SO we're going for a walk in abit (once DP gets his arse out of bed) followed by a trip back to bed and maybe some more sleep!

Good! Then all is well.

Now popping out to the market. Will be popping in and out of this thread today. We want blow by blow descriptions of what is happening.

Don't fret about the sweep. Honestly... don't have anyone else (apart from when having sex) play about up there. Leave it alone. Let nature take her course!

LuckySalem · 13/01/2008 11:45

I'm not too worried about sweep anymore, I was cos the supervisor lady said it would probably help but things are going so I don't mind.

Just wish I could have the Supervisor as my normal MW but she's based at a different GP's so I can't.

did oyu have your walk? are you resting? you should be!

Tangle · 13/01/2008 16:12

The acronym we were given was B.R.A.I.N.: ask what are the Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Implications and what happens if we do Nothing?

Fingers crossed things are moving and your baby's here soon

NatalieJane · 13/01/2008 16:52

Jen have just caught up

Hope things have started by now, or that you are at least resting, having sex or tweaking (Don't think I have ever said that to anyone before today )

Lot's of visualising, lots of R&R, and lots of MN-ing from here on in

(Sorry Lulu, have only just seen you asking after me way up there ^^^ somewhere! I am doing OK thanks, had a really, really, down week, but I think I am getting it together a bit better now. Talks of a no.3 are well underway, but we are going to take some time to make a final decision, DH says I'm not really in the right frame of mind to make such a big choice at the moment, and I agree so, maybe in a couple of months or so we will know )

C'mon Jen, I am even singing: (you might want to hold your ears and run away while shouting so you can't hear me )

Give us a B................ B
Give us an A............... A
Give us a B................ B
Give us a Y................ Y
Goooooooooooooooooooo BABY

If my yodeling doesn't get him/her out, nothing will!!!!!!

lulalullabye · 13/01/2008 19:08

lucksalem, I had three sweeps with dd1, none of them made any difference. No sweeps with dd2 and she came when she was ready. You still bouncing ?

LuckySalem · 13/01/2008 22:45

Everything is on the off here, having contractions every 7/8 minutes. Strong but not strong enough to need anything for it, just breathing.

TMI - Had discharge all day (bloody) to the point where it actually feels like i'm peeing it out. (YUCK)

Good! Rest where you can. Knew this would happen. Just relax into it. Good comedy, some sleep.

Eat, drink and pee regularly darling.

Will check back in the morning!

ayrshirelolo · 14/01/2008 00:00

lulumama · 14/01/2008 10:07

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 11:01

No news yet everyone, I got all the threads we speak to each other refreshing every 5 mins and facebook on the go and still nada

So selfish to keep us all waiting, anyone would think she could stop mid-contraction and get on here to let us know...... I don't know, these young 'ens today.....

I am going to be in so much trouble when she gets back LOL And when DH gets home, I am meant to be cleaning up after the w/e!

lulumama · 14/01/2008 11:12

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 11:43

Pah! You won't have to forget, I am hoping to do it all again!!

Mwahhhaaaaaa haaaaaa haaaaaaaa

Think I must have something wrong in my head.

Erm, that was meant to be a scary wicked witches laugh BTW

lulumama · 14/01/2008 12:27

oooh, i hope you do it all again

i love a good, birthy silence

NatalieJane · 14/01/2008 12:30

LOL Birthy silence, I don't think I'd have gotten any further from silence if I'd tried

She'd have had the baby by now, she is just too engrossed in cudling up with them to bother with us lot!

Can't blame her really, or can we?!!

Sabire · 14/01/2008 12:53

I'd get in touch with your local NCT homebirth support. Contact your local branch (www.nct.org.uk) and get the number. She'll be able to talk the issues through with you and she may know senior midwives locally who can smooth your passage.

I personally would suggest you contact the supervisor of midwives NOW if you are being threatened with a 'no show' because of staffing issues. There's a proforma letter on the AIMS website that you can adapt and to include your own details. Send it by e-mail and send her your home number so she can ring you.
If's she's forwarned of your determination to stay at home (all things being equal - you may choose to go in if things change) it's less likely that they'll try to bully you in to hospital using 'no midwives' as an excuse.

Goodluck!

Oh - and I'd put your fingers in your ears and go 'la la la' everytime someone tries to tell you a 'homebirth gone wrong' story. The last thing you need now is a barrage of negativity. Be positive!

lulumama · 14/01/2008 13:51

hopefully, sabire, she is in labour right now ! she was having lots of bloody show and regular ctx last night !!

sweetkitty · 14/01/2008 13:52

Just popped in to see if there was any news??

Hope she's cuddling a beautiful newborn after a quick labour at home.
