Just a curious nosey oneGrin

Did you all feel any pressure or anything just before your waters broke? Or was it literally just a big gush, a trickle?

What were you doing when your waters broke?

Be interesting to read! X

I was having contractions at home and it just happened. I don't remember anything different just before, I mean there was no sensation that I was going to burst! Husband then drove me to hospital and I gave birth just over two hours later.

My dear friend and neighbour's waters broke before any contractions, she was asleep in bed but it woke her. She went straight into hospital by which time it was all systems go and she had her baby shortly afterwards.

We're all different.

Whoopsmahoot · 06/08/2021 22:26

Was having minor contractions. He gave a kick and it was niagra falls. Total gush. Happened with such force ended up with a partial abruption and emergency section few hrs later. 🙄

BertieBotts · 06/08/2021 22:45

I'd add I didn't have any signs before for either of them. With DC1 obviously I was in established labour but with DC2 the contractions didn't start until afterwards.

whoknew23 · 06/08/2021 22:53

I had just eaten some Haribo in the middle of the night and had turned over to go back to sleep and just felt really warm and wet all of a sudden.

douliket · 06/08/2021 23:05

Had just arrived up to the ward from admissions. I went for a walk up and down the ward, as advised, to keep contractions coming, I felt contractions getting stronger after a few minutes so returned to my bed.
While lying on top of the bed and chatting to OH between contractions,my waters broke and soaked the bed during a strong contraction. Dd was born an hour later. It was amazing.

Nat6999 · 07/08/2021 03:13

Midwife broke mine 24 hours after gel for induction, told me to get off the bed so she could change it & they ran down my legs & soaked my slippers, massive puddle on the floor.

Mummywantsaweewee · 07/08/2021 03:28

I’ve just given birth this evening - I was having a contraction (about 15mins before ds was born) and heard and felt a loud pop. Was like a water balloon bursting in my vagina. 😂 waters went all over the mat!

DeRigueurMortis · 07/08/2021 03:44

I was in bed fast asleep (37 weeks).

Woke up thinking I was desperate to have a wee.

Got out of bed and to the toilet and whoosh.

A few moments later my contractions started and the "leakage" kept going.

Took me a while (sleepy) to process and finally realised what was happening.

That was 6.30am. By 9.30 I was in the maternity unit.

By 12.30pm I was back at home with DS.

HungryHippo11 · 07/08/2021 03:47

Both times it was while I was having contractions.
First time I stood up and felt them pop, followed by a gush, there was no mistaking it, we had to get to the hospital sharpish and she was born an hour later.
Second time it was during (I assume) transition when we had just got to the hospital. Midwife had to try and get my leggings off because I immediately started pushing after they went, baby was born about 7 minutes later. The leggings were unsalvageable 🤣

Congratulations @Mummywantsaweewee Flowers

FakeFruitShoot · 07/08/2021 08:27

Mine were broken for me the first time - much more forceful than I had expected and A LOT of water.

The other three times it happened when I'd been in labour a while, on the loo.

Gemmaemilyx · 07/08/2021 08:29

I felt off all day- slept most of it! Went to bed wirh mild period pains woke up with them. Went to the loo wiped and saw pinky fluid.

rang triage and said to put a pad on (I thought it was my mucus plug!) but got into bed after I sorted myself felt a pop, got up and trickled out for ages! Luckily no gush as so much of it!! Started then having contractions and had my baby!

My first they popped the waters for me xx

Kinsters · 08/08/2021 06:24

I was at a party. We'd just got our food from the buffet and were standing up chatting to some people and I felt a strange pop/kick. DH sat down but I went to the bathroom instead as I was pretty sure my waters had gone and as soon as I sat on the loo they gushed out. Stuffed toilet paper in my pants and waddled back to tell DH we were leaving, luckily didn't leave too much mess on the floor.

Kinsters · 08/08/2021 06:35

By funny coincidence my FIL had taken a picture of us at almost the exact time my waters popped and you can tell by the look on my face! 😂

Ava50x · 08/08/2021 12:06

With DS1, I was in the waiting room having contractions, waiting to be assessed and admitted. I heard a little "ping" and gush, waters went all over the floor. The waiting room was full of people and their partners and I was mortified! (Also being my first baby I assumed baby would be born within minutes! Was another 3 hours)

With DS2 and DS3 waters went in the pool at the onset of pushing. Felt a little something and noticed waters, didn't feel much.

happytoday73 · 08/08/2021 12:12

Lying in bed reading a nighttime book to other child... Obvious trickle that shoved towel under me to finish book and keep everything normal... While frantically gesturing to DH what had happened (& him looking at my blankly)
No pains, no show.. It was first sign - baby was born within 6 hours

Thunderface · 08/08/2021 12:22

I have 2 children and had very fast labours. My waters didn't go either time til the baby was actually being born.

DipperandMabel · 08/08/2021 12:40

With my first I was asleep and woke in the morning - the moment I stood up a massive gush of water. It kept coming in trickles. When sat in the waiting room at the hospital waiting for a space in the labour suite, I had been sat for about 40 mins and when I stood up it was like a waterfall - two men sat next to me look horrified. I had to walk through the hospital up to the next floor splunging with a trail behind me! I had no idea the waters kept filling and filling!

annlee3817 · 08/08/2021 23:20

One started as a gush when I sat down in bed after going for a wee and I kept getting more gushes when I moved around. At the hospital I was walking up to the midwife led unit and I can only describe it as feeling like there was a water balloon in my shorts that could break at any minute, that was the sensation, when I got onto MLU they went to examine me, but I stopped them, got onto all fours as had a contraction and they then went completely in one huge gush that covered the bed and the floor, DH and My Mum jumped back :)

MrsAvocet · 08/08/2021 23:31

I only had my waters break spontaneously once. I was in what I thought was probably early labour so decided to have a bath to ease the contractions. I'd only been in about 5 mins when I heard a loud pop and the bath water level visibly started rising! It was like someone had thrown a bucket of water in there which was a shock as the previous time I'd had my waters broken in hospital and it was more of a slow leak rather than a torrent. Baby was born about an hour later - I just made it to hospital.

Chanel05 · 09/08/2021 15:38

I'd been contracting for 11 hours so was waiting for it to happen. I felt a small pop and then it was a Niagra Falls gushing scenario for some time.

mrssunshinexxx · 10/08/2021 02:09

Woke up to a gush/pop at 3am

HummingBeeBox · 10/08/2021 02:31

Also woken by a pop and gush of water. This was just one of the waters (didn't know there were two!) and the other went with a bang mid labour, needed mopping up, immense amounts of water, was really funny as everyone stepped back to make way for the flood.

MrsBertBibby · 10/08/2021 03:13

Mine went as I sat down to eat my dinner, I'd made a HUGE casserole, and my idiot ex never put it in the fridge so I had to bin the lot when I got back with the baby. Soaked my brand new hospital slippers, and used all the maternity pads up. No one tells you there is SO much, and it just keeps coming.

Started contractions an hour or two later, and finally convinced the hospital I was advanced enough after an hour or so of that. Fully dilated by the time I got into the delivery room, and delivered after a couple of hours. Then I had to get an epidural and a d&c as the placenta didn't deliver and I'd closed up again, so ended up in theatre.

Still angry about that casserole. The little I ate I puked, and I was really looking forward to it.

My son is now 17.

LCF2021 · 11/08/2021 19:08

With DS they went at home about 6 hours into labour after I’d been bouncing on the ball. Baby born about 2 hours later.

With DD it was in hospital and the relief once they’d gone was intense. Baby then born less than 10 mins later!
