Just a curious nosey oneGrin

Did you all feel any pressure or anything just before your waters broke? Or was it literally just a big gush, a trickle?

What were you doing when your waters broke?

Be interesting to read! X

Just as I started pushing with both my girls, huge intense amount of pressure in the seconds before they went and it was a huge gush, soaked the midwife and went up my back into my hair 🙈

Warmhandscoldheart · 06/08/2021 21:14

Had mine broken for me by hospital midwife as labour wasn't progressing. Waters came gushing out, all hell breaks loose because DC was in foetal distress and had pooed while in womb. EMCS followed

boymum88 · 06/08/2021 21:16

1st ds broke on first push, ruined a pair of brand new socks ( went straight in the bin)
2nd sat at kitchen table making pizza with ds1 felt a pop stood up and wiggled nothing happen sat back down 2 mins later felt warm between my legs 'said to Dh I've either weed my pants or my waters have just gone) stood up and the flood gates opened. poor Dh had to mop while I had a quick shower, had to sit on a towel in the car as was filling pads

Russell19 · 06/08/2021 21:18

I was just sat on the sofa felt completely normal and I coughed and felt like I'd wet myself! Waters then trickled all day and every time I stood up after being sat down there was a gush. 10pm that night contractions started, 42 hours later baby was born.

elliejjtiny · 06/08/2021 21:18

Dc1 felt a pop in the birthing pool while pushing.
Dc2, 3 and 4 felt a pop and a massive gush when I woke up in the morning. Continued to gush for the next 4 days with dc2 and 2 days with the others like I had a tap inside me.
Dc5 felt a bit of a trickle while I was waiting for dh to come home from picking up takeaway. Kept trickling and got heavier. Ds born 9 days later, the longest 9 days of my life!

TheGriffle · 06/08/2021 21:19

@messybun101 it did cross my mind fleetingly but the panic of what I would do if it happened (probably offer to clean it up and try and get down to do it!) made me make a hasty retreat.

User0ne · 06/08/2021 21:26

Ds1 I stood up to put a log on the fire (I'd had a bath just before and been putting in fence posts at my allotment all day)

Ds2 I woke up with a gush around 1am

DS3 I had a slow leak for 24hrs - only really noticeable when walking up/down steep hills. Then they went with a gush in the kitchen while making a cuppa for my pils (who were conveniently there having agreed to have the older 2 while I was in labour)

breadbinbaby · 06/08/2021 21:28

Mine popped getting in the bath. Had to go to hospital to confirm that I hadn’t wet myself! Didn’t go into labour, annoyingly.

Sleepyquest · 06/08/2021 21:30

I woke up and the bed was wet, went to the toilet and was just leaking! And as I squeezed to wee it kinda gushed out more. They were never ending! This went on for 36 hrs at least

MangoM · 06/08/2021 21:31

I was just sitting on the floor, stood up and I felt a weird leak like I'd done a little wee. I spent the next hour or so lying down and getting back up to see if it happened again before calling the hospital (it did!).

Although I was 2 days overdue, I still felt completely normal so it took me by surprise. I never got contractions naturally in the end, so after 24 hours I was induced.

SalaciousCrumble · 06/08/2021 21:32

Mine went as I sat in the loo for a poo with DC1. Sat down and had a very mild strain then got a pop and a gush of water! Very convenient that it was all contained. I'd felt slightly off all day but nothing significant. With DC2 they went while I was in labour, same popping sensation but it was more expected.

firstimemamma · 06/08/2021 21:32

I had a 16.5 hour labour and my waters went (naturally) in the last 50 minutes! It was like someone had thrown a massive water balloon on the floor and honestly it scared me a bit.

I'm pregnant again so it will be interesting to see what the next time holds in store! It's definitely not always a thing that happens in the early stages.

Vinorosso74 · 06/08/2021 21:33

I was sitting on the sofa, moved slightly to get comfortable, did think I'd peed myself then realised it was my waters. It was a gush which just kept trickling.

PurpleCuckoo · 06/08/2021 21:34

Had been having irregular contractions on and off for a few days, got up off the sofa to go for a wee and just felt a gush of warm wet stuff! Contractions were coming thick and fast within a few hours.

katienana · 06/08/2021 21:39

I had felt some pains earlier in the evening while watching Bake Off but had had loads of false alarms by then. Tried to go to bed but around 11pm I felt the urge to go for a wee, as I got up I felt a trickle and thought great now I'm weeing myself! Shuffled to the loo and when I sat down on it I felt something rupture and a massive gush came. As that happened I had my first proper contraction. It was way more than all the pains I'd had before. Woke dh up, we were in for a long night! Ds arrived 13 hours later.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/08/2021 21:42

nothing before (with my 1st & 6th)
it was like I peed myself but couldn't stop it - but incontinence can happen so I put a pad in and walked around for a bit, then took a sniff as advised; amniotic fluid doesn't smell like pee.

Antwerpen · 06/08/2021 21:47

@OddsNSodsBitsNBobs

It isn't noticable in most cases! I assume mine broke in active labour but no noise or sensation either time.
Crikey I think you are the exception rather than the rule
PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/08/2021 21:49

I felt a weird pressure so legged it down the ward to the toilet. Sat on the loo and my waters went. All seemed fine so I went to get the nurse, waited ages to get their attention while they were sat on their arses gossiping. One walked me back to my bed while telling me I was probably wrong about my waters breaking, I sat on the bed and the second lot went. My pyjamas actually inflated Confused. I had no idea about hindwaters.
I was really surprised by how loud the pop was. It took forever to clean up and seemed to go on forever. Was over 48hrs later that I actually gave birth.

MySerenity · 06/08/2021 21:51

Mine were broken by the midwife as part of induction. Kept on trickling more for ages.

Weird question- did anyone else think the fluid smelled amazing?! Blush

MissyB1 · 06/08/2021 21:52

I had been feeling a lot of pressure all day. Went up to bed, sat on the edge to get undressed, stood up and whoosh! Couldn’t believe the amount - a tsunami! Mattress and carpet never recovered.

Generalpost · 06/08/2021 21:55

Mine broke over time . I was putting up a trampoline and each time I pulled a spring I kept peeing myself. Only it wasn't pee Grin

Bexi3 · 06/08/2021 22:00

I had a trainee midwife examining me as they didn't think I was in established labour. She moved my bump from side to side quite firmly. I heard a very loud bang like a shotgun then felt wet. I looked at my Mom and husband and said did you hear that but they never, it was all systems go then as there was meconium in my waters.

BertieBotts · 06/08/2021 22:03

DC1 broke in birth pool when pushing. Just felt a popping sensation.

DC2 broke in bed waking me up. Felt warm and wet and then kept gushing randomly for the whole day like 12+ hours.

HippyChickMama · 06/08/2021 22:14

Dc1 I had polyhydraminos, was on the ward having been induced the night before, had a contraction that felt a bit weird, lots of pressure and then a gush that flooded the floor, was literally paddling in it. Carried on gushing with every contraction for the next 22 hours.
Dc2 got to 9cm and waters hadn't gone, lots of pressure with contractions so I asked the mw to break them. Barely a trickle that time

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 06/08/2021 22:18

First DC, was in the pub having lunch with the extended IL family Blush just a trickle so wasn't sure if I'd wet myself.

Second DC, was in bed and it woke me up. Cleaned myself up and went back to sleep!

With both DC, other than being close to due date, no indication at all of impending labour - no Braxton Hicks ever, no show, no pop of waters, just a little trickle Hmm
