If your first baby was born early, was your second too?

Just that really. I went into labour with DD1 at 38 weeks and things started very quickly - contractions were 3mins apart within 90mins and I was dilated within a couple of hours. Things didn’t go smoothly from there however and I ended up having an EMCS.

I’m very keen to have an ELCS this time around and am scared of going into labour early again, and particularly of things progressing too fast for a section to be possible.

So if you had an early first birth, how did things go the second time around?

I evicted both of mine at 36 weeks too. My waters were very low with dd1 and I was in line for an induction at 37 weeks but labour started spontaneously. I elected to go full term with dd2 as no problems with my waters but she was also 4 weeks early.

Both my first and second were a couple of days early and my third was the full two weeks late resulting in induction

1st - 38 weeks
2nd - 38 weeks
3rd - 41 weeks

My first was born at 35 weeks and my second was born two days before her due date.

Yes but not as early. DC1 38 weeks, DC2 39+1

Chasingsquirrels · 11/06/2021 07:38

Dc1: 37+0 (half hour after midnight). 2 hour labour.
Dc2: 37-0 (5 mins before midnight). 15 min labour.

Both 3 weeks early. Dc3 was only a few days early.

My first was a emcs at 33 weeks due to pre eclampsia along with other complications that are associated with that.
My second was an elcd at 36 weeks due to static growth. So both premature but I went much later with my second.
As your first baby was term, you have a very good chance of going further with your second and your consultant should take into consideration the speed of your labour's when booking your section date and probably tell you to get to the hospital at the first sign of labour. Try not to worry too much as babies are expected to arrive at 37 weeks and over, the due date is an estimate at best
