I had a c section 5 weeks ago up till now it stings when I see and has a funny smell.
I just noticed just now in the bath that my scars gone bright red. The reason why I got in the bath aswel was because I suddenly got pain and coldness in both of my calves and my feet. Shall I ring 111 or wait till Monday for the doctors

If it has a funny smell after 5 weeks I would suspect it could be infected. I wouldn't wait and risk sepsis. Call your maternity hospital or 111.

OppsUpsSide · 02/01/2021 23:27

Yes call now

user1471549213 · 02/01/2021 23:27

Ps I have had 2 sections and never had these symptoms. A phone call will take a few minutes. Please call and the experts can advise you.

Brobbles · 02/01/2021 23:30

Definitely call now, you need to be checked over for signs of infection

Gunpowder · 02/01/2021 23:32

Wouldn’t wait. Definitely call now.?

Gunpowder · 02/01/2021 23:32

Sorry rogue question mark.

WhatAKerfuffley · 02/01/2021 23:40

It sounds like it's infected. Definitely get checked out ASAP.

SomethingsGottaChange · 02/01/2021 23:41

Call now!!!!!

esselllx · 03/01/2021 03:48

I don't have any transport to get to the hospital and no one to watch my baby

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 03:57

Phone the Hospital or NHS Direct. It sounds like you have an infection and need antibiotics.

esselllx · 03/01/2021 04:00

@Bikingbear is it triage that I ring or do I go to a and e

Can you ring the maternity department A&E where you gave birth? They might be able to point you in the right direction. You do sound like you need seeing sooner rather than later

Sway19 · 03/01/2021 04:06

Ring 111 now. They can send a dr out to see you if you can’t get to the hospital given your circumstances. Where is your partner?

Sway19 · 03/01/2021 04:07

Or as others have said ring maternity triage

ProfessorSillyStuff · 03/01/2021 04:11

You need to be in hospital on a drip, scepsis can set in so fast and have permanent effects even when not fatal. Baby will have to go with you I'm afraid.. flowers to you op I'm sure you'll feel better soon!

YukoandHiro · 03/01/2021 04:15

If your baby is 5 weeks old they will absolutely expect you to take them with you. No hospital separates a mum and newborn, especially over a post partum medical issue

YukoandHiro · 03/01/2021 04:16

Ring maternity triage or your labour ward first. I don't think you'll be asked to sit in A&E with the current situation

esselllx · 03/01/2021 04:34

I have no pram yet I'll have to wait until the morning and get the bus to the hospital while my sister watches her

Often Mum and baby are admitted together if Mum needs to go back in. Particularly if baby is breastfed. Can you call 111? They might need to send out a paramedic car to you to assess you further. Don’t run risks with sepsis. If you don’t have a problem have you a car seat or a wrap to carry her?

CoffeeAndCaramel · 03/01/2021 04:55

OP without worrying you, you aren't taking this seriously, phone 111 and like pps have said you can take your baby with you. You need to be seen ASAP. Good luck x

peonyrose87 · 03/01/2021 04:57

I would call right away, you don't want to leave these things. 111 will assess you and send an ambulance if needed. Baby can go with you.

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 05:14

I'd ring the maternity number see what they say. If its outwith their remit then call NHS direct.

They can't expect you to get to hospital on public transport with a newborn. But phone now.

namynamy · 03/01/2021 07:15

Similar happened me back in May. You can ring 111 or you can ring the maternity ward/triage as they will still see you in the early weeks post delivery.
I rang 111 and local out of hours Dr called me back and prescribed antibiotics over the phone ( didn't want me going to clinic due to COVID)
Unfortunately these potentially weren't strong enough or I got another infection and this time rang the maternity unit who asked me to come in (with baby) for a full check up/swabs taken etc and luckily didn't have to stay in for IVs but got sent home with antibiotics. Please ring for your own peace of mind, I was quite unwell but just blamed on on fatigue! Good Luck

namynamy · 03/01/2021 07:16

They says if I needed admitted baby would of course stay with me!
