HOw cheeky am I??!!!!!

Anyway, I bought Spiritual Midwifery as so exuberantly recommended and started reading, I read around all the hippy words and I am on the whole enjoying it, but reading the stories, I just can't help but think 'you're on drugs aren't you?' The stories are amazing if taken at face value but there's so many and they're so similar it makes me think it's all one mad hippy trip. I am taking quite a lot from it and I haven't got to the 'technical' bit yet. What do you lot think?

Rachal · 08/10/2007 23:38

I am going to do the NB recognition - purely because i tried to register with DoulaUK and have never recevied a reply!!

Lisa, if you want to borrow any of my books let me know what you are after and if I have them i can lend them, no problem!! I too think your site is lovely (its the pics that do it everytime!!)

MarsLady · 08/10/2007 23:39

Marslady - I tried to register about 10 days ago!! I have e-mailed several times since.

I would be happy to go through DoulaUK registration BUT....

MarsLady · 09/10/2007 08:16

Ooh now that needs chasing up honey.

The committee is a wee bit small at the moment and I know that the membership secretary's life got phenomenally busy so I wonder if she's been replaced yet? Also, they are all volunteers and may have been busy with births.... but yes... they should have responded by now.

Did you check your SPAM box? Just in case any communication went in there. It's worth trying again. I know that the website had some problems a week or so ago and is now sorted.

It really is a wonderful organisation to be part of. Oh and when you join, do pay the extra and do a Doulagraphy. It is so worth it. Then when people click on find a doula they click your doulagraphy and you become more than just a name and number. It's so so worth it.

(Can you tell I love it yet? lol)

I've had so much support there and met some wonderful people.

hertsnessex · 09/10/2007 09:19

must add i have also found doula uk most helpful, especially for getting work. also on the Nb forum, and done the nb course which was good.

rosmonster · 09/10/2007 10:14

Listening to all of you, I'm become more and more excited at the idea of being a doula! I think I'll get my antenatal training out of the way first before starting something else though.

I've just managed to get a copy of Spiritual Midwifery on Ebay and am looking forward to reading it.

The NCT, am really enjoying it though they can be a little slow getting paperwork sorted etc!

Rachal · 09/10/2007 13:06

Marslady - I have got the application form now, am going to register later.

Ros - The NCT training is really good, shout if you need any help?

MarsLady · 09/10/2007 17:11

yogimum · 09/10/2007 17:37

Hi I'm just registering to the the Naturing birth post-natal course coming up in November. Does anyone know if there what the reading list is?

jofeb04 · 09/10/2007 19:15

Rosmonster,

What weekend are you going on? Im on one at the end of November!!

Email me if you want to

rosmonster · 09/10/2007 19:41

Its the end of Nov, intro to the course - are you on the same one?

jofeb04 · 09/10/2007 21:01

If it is the one in Reading, then yes I am

rosmonster · 10/10/2007 09:31

oh cool , I'll email you a little closer to the time & maybe we could arrange to meet? Or am I being too stalkerish now

lilybee · 10/10/2007 15:57

I think from memory there is a list of books in the NB course work. If I remember they were Sheila Kitzinger and Michel Odent as 1st choices although any birth book promoting Active Birth are acceptable.

Have any of you read Mother's Intention How belief shapes birth by Kim Wildner

jofeb04 · 10/10/2007 17:09

rosmonster

lol @ being stalkerish. If we can't stalk on mn, when can we!!

;)

I'd love to meet up somewhere before hand!!

Quadrophenia · 10/10/2007 17:20

hey guys, used to be a DUK member a few years ago, had to leave doulaing for a more steady income job. Was just wondering about the NB thing, do they have their own forums and find a doula sections now?

Lulumama · 10/10/2007 17:22

yes, yes they do , it is a good forum

Quadrophenia · 10/10/2007 17:46

has it taken interest away from DUK? (sorry just being nosey really!)

Lulumama · 10/10/2007 18:56

i don;t know, have only been on DUK around 8 months, i tend to post queried and birth stories on both forums, to cover all bases.
