HOw cheeky am I??!!!!!

Anyway, I bought Spiritual Midwifery as so exuberantly recommended and started reading, I read around all the hippy words and I am on the whole enjoying it, but reading the stories, I just can't help but think 'you're on drugs aren't you?' The stories are amazing if taken at face value but there's so many and they're so similar it makes me think it's all one mad hippy trip. I am taking quite a lot from it and I haven't got to the 'technical' bit yet. What do you lot think?

Has anyone got Spiritual Midwifery they would be willing to lend out to me?
If so, can you email me; think most of you have my email address!

3Ddonut · 30/09/2007 17:52

sorry I'm still reading mine, but by the time you pay the p & p it'd probably be better to buy? It's quite heavy. Have you tried the library? my local one didn't stock it, also have you tried ebay there was a copy on there a few weeks after I bought mine, fourth edition is the newest.

rosmerta · 30/09/2007 19:13

3D, wouldn't your library check other libraries and do an inter-library loan? Mine does that and then if they can't get it from another place, they go to the British Library. It does mean you wait a while but its really handy!

I'm going to go tomorrow & see if I can get Spiritual Midwifery!

I agree as well that you don't need to read them as such but I've found in such a short space of time I'm much more aware of how women are designed to have children and how a woman can work with her body rather than against it in labour. I would never push my ideals onto clients but I do think its important to have an all-round knowledge and understanding to help them.

3Ddonut · 30/09/2007 20:39

My library searched the whole borough council's stock and no-one had it, they didn't go any further though, so I had to choose the ones I wanted most and pay for them!

rosmerta · 30/09/2007 21:33

Ok, I thought all libraries did the inter-loan thing with other areas & the BL but I guess not!

Actually I've found a couple of the books mentioned here on ebay so am keeping a watch on them!

lulumama · 30/09/2007 21:33

3Ddonut · 30/09/2007 22:20

Going to have a look on Amazon now

GingGangGooley · 01/10/2007 10:10

3Donut, yep just trained as a doula!

Rosmerta, I would LOVE to see Michel Odent at a seminar. I think he is amazing. I will be telling everyone to read his books lol. His explanation of hormones just makes it all make sense doesn't it!!

I think I may have to read his "The Caesarean" book next.

rosmerta · 01/10/2007 12:31

This is the seminar we went to, it seems that he's there most weeks if you can ever get down to London!

GingGangGooley · 01/10/2007 13:08

Thanks for that hun! Will have to be next year now i think as this year is rapidly disappearing and we have a wedding to organise lol.

3Ddonut · 01/10/2007 13:09

Sensitive midwifery is out of print I think, Amazon no longer stock it, does anyone know of anywhere currently holding it, I don't like to buy from the marketplace so much, anyone know which is the most up to date edition if there's more than one?

Anyone read Birth without Violence by Frederick Leboyer? I picked it up today and am half way through it, it's fascinating and a little disturbing! some of the practices he criticises are no longer used.

That sounds great, and only 20quid! Shame it's so far for only 2 hours though!

I'll check which edition of sensitive midwifery I've got 3D, otherwise the only other places I can think of are perhaps the NCT or Ebay? They seem extremely overpriced on the Amazon marketplace

rosmerta · 04/10/2007 20:59

3D, sorry I haven't got back to you sooner! My edition is the 4th (1987).

Btw, I was wondering if this would be a useful thread to have for antenatal teachers, doulas etc to swap info and advice? I bring this up basically because I need something

Does anyone have or know where I can get a dvd of a waterbirth? I'm preparing for a presentation on waterbirth and would love to be able to show something. I'm looking on youtube but I can't find any of a good enough quality. tia

Rachal · 08/10/2007 16:21

Helo everyone,

I am relatively new to this site. I am an antenatal teacher with the NCT and have just finished my doula training. (my website www.bumpsbirthsandbeyond.co.uk)

Re: Waterbirth, if you havent had any luck i think i may have one on dvd - will check and get back to you.

hertsnessex · 08/10/2007 19:11

Hi Rachal, your site looks nice, welcome to Mumsnet. Are you on DUK aswell?

rosmonster · 08/10/2007 21:59

Thanks Rachal, that would be great if you don't mind.

liahgen · 08/10/2007 23:06

Hi all,

think i've spoken to most of you, some of you have looked at my website

www.freewebs.com/chrysalisbirths/

(made some good suggestions too)

Have just finished training, with Rachal, (hi hun. x) and about to start my journey.

Have just found out nb are doing their own recognition process so bit in 2 minds about DUK now. Any one got strong opinions re DUK either way.

Thanks. x

MarsLady · 08/10/2007 23:08

Love DUK. I think that it really is worth having DUK recognition. I have found that it has been a truly helpful place to be. I understand from another Doula that if you have DUK recognition you can automatically get NB recognition (but do check in case I got that wrong). It doesn't work the other way round as far as I know... so why not get both? Pay for DUK and get NB free!

Will look back at your site again. It is rather lovely.

liahgen · 08/10/2007 23:21

thank you.

Yeah tis true about the recognition thing, Valerie,(founder nb) is in talks at the moment about it working both ways.
Well, I've filled all forms in now, so may as well put em in and get on the road to Recognition, lol. x
