Do you take your hospital bag with you everywhere if you're near to d-day?

I'm due tomorrow and we went out for the day today, a good hour away from home. It occured to me before we left that perhaps I should take my bag with me, if not the bag at least my notes, but then decided against it on the basis that if I'm not prepared things are more likely to happen.
Still here with bump (sigh.)

Not bag (dh/p can bring that in for you), but I have carried my notes everywhere with me since 17 weeks (had complications necessitating emergency admission 3 times - resolved now). Sod's law would dictate that the one time I didn't take them with me, Something Would Happen.

i don't think i did, dd two now so

made sure notes at least were in the car and bag wasn't packed til nearly due day anyway. good job as dd was 5 days late, too comfy methinks

I took my notes if I went out of our City as I would have had to go to a different hosp, but not if I was just generally out and about and never my bag.

No, But I do carry my notes with me if I am travelling a long way away, or staying somewhere overnight...You never know when you may need them. Deffo if you are travelling abroad- my M/w advised me to do that.

I had to go in for assessment at 37 weeks, so left the bag in the boot of the car as didn't seem much point in taking it out again. DS arrived 10 days later.

Didn't take bag or notes if going not too far. If going an hour away, probably not either although considered taking notes. If more than that though, took both - if staying overnight - took car seat too. Glad I did too as ds born 2 weeks early 100 miles from home after waters broke on motorway!

Please ladies can I ask that you all carry your hand held notes with you, even if only going to the supermarket.

The information held in your hospital notes is limited and may mean there is a delay in your treatment until all your information is available.

Remember that should you suddenly find yourself being admitted to a different hospital, even only an hour away, they will have no knowledge at all about you.

In an emergency situation you may not be able to tell anyone about yourself!

This is in no way meant to scare folks but emergencies can happen.

This is the reason that 'hand held' notes came to be used.

if it's your first it's pretty unlikely things will happen so fast that you'll need to absolutely rush to hospital! not impossible, obviously, but unlikely. so no, i def. wouldn't bother trailing it round with you, but it would be a good idea to keep your notes handy, as other posters have said.

No, in fact I packed my bag whilst in labour as a means of passing the time. Nor would I carry my notes with me unless I was a high risk pg.

Sorry Heated but any pregnancy can become high risk, placental abruption being just one instance which you cannot prepare for.

im high risk so carry mine everywhere since i was admitted at 16 weeks .
I leave my notes and bags in car, for last few weeks now.
Always better to be safe.

Took my notes everywhere. Took my hospital bag whenever I was away overnight (for the last trimester). It was HUGE and twice as big as the bag that DH and I needed for a trip away! I used almost everything in it too.

My bag was near the front door or in the car. Got caught out with DS1 and Mum had to go and get my stuff for me. Learnt my lesson tho.

I never took my bag anywhere but thats probably to do with the fact that I get incredibly mardy come 37 weeks and dont go anywhere.

I do take my notes though.

you should carry your notes with you, bag less important, as if you are admitted suddenly, the hospital will have all the basics, toiletries, sanitary pads, nappies, blankets, etc

all pregnant women should carry their notes, as there are notes on there about your BP, urine and baby's heartrate and position, which other caregivers would need info about

Notes but bag left where hubby could find it , usually right in the hall so as he opended the door he would trip over it ! He'd never find it otherwise .

Go into labour in M & S and you may get some free vouchers if you are whisked away !

Would that be true or is that an urban myth that a shop would give you vouchers if you went ino labour at their store ?

I carried mine since first admission. I would say as soon as you get them really, as lulu said it has all the inof in there that would be needed in emerency

I don't take my notes or anything really. Hoping for the sods law principle. if I was prepared for labour it will never happen. She says, sat here at 40+4.

I keep my notes with me, but would have bag somewhere obvious at home. Shame that the notes are so big nowadays - 14 years ago when had first they were A5 and fitted easily in bag - it's like a flipping magazine now!

I keep my notes in my handbag. I don't drive otherwise bags would be in the car at all times.

We went out for the day on Saturday,(about 70 minutes from home) and I made DP put my bags in the boot as I thought that I might be going into labour on Thursday and wanted to be prepared in case it happened while we were out. I am now 37 weeks pregnant, but don't think this little girl will stay in there for another 3 weeks. Possibly 2 at the most.

My bags are now in the hall just in case I go into labour when DP is at work and I need someone else to take me in.

Its true with most places CU as long as you give them free publicity in the local rag. I spent many an hour wandering aimlessly in our Tesco's hoping for a years free shopping! It would have saved me thousands £££££££££[grins] Didnt work, but the bakery people know me by name

Had notes with me at all times and since I drive everywhere, hosp bags were in the boot too. The notes are the most important part - as other posters say, the hosp will have basics to get you through without your bags.
