I was sick during last childbirth, will I be sick again?

My first labour didn't go too well and one of the reasons I think I didn't cope that well was because I was being sick so much. If I could have used the breaks between contractions to gather my strength and try to relax I think I would have done better but instead I kept being sick which was painful itself and just made the whole experience worse. So my question is..... if have been sick in labour before, we're you sick in every labour?

I was being sick all throughout my first labour, and then not at all with my second. Don’t know how helpful that is...

I remember being very sick with my second one but not any of the others. So I don’t think it’s a definite at all.

OddshoesOddsocks · 18/12/2019 23:14

I was sick a few times throughout my first but wasn’t at all during my second. I did feel it though so spent much of it mooing on all fours into a bucket!

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 18/12/2019 23:15

I was sick during my first labour (no G&A) but not during labours 2-5 (loads of G&A!). Each labour is different and it doesn't follow at all that you will have the same problems each time.

kitk · 18/12/2019 23:18

This night not be helpful but like a PP I was awfully sick in childbirth after G&A and although I haven't been fortunate enough to conceive again I've unfort been hospitalised twice sine then and both times been sick within an hour of G&A. Might be just a side effect but worth pointing out maybe

Thestrangestthing · 18/12/2019 23:22

I was very sick with my first, could have been the gas and air but I only tried it once and didn't feel like it helped at all so didn't have anymore. Also had diamorphine, which may have caused sickness.
Second I had no pain killers or gas and air and I wasn't sick.

PreseaCombatir · 18/12/2019 23:39

Yes, I was sick after G&A with the first as well, however loved it with the second 😂

Xiaohei · 18/12/2019 23:51

Your post (OP) could have been written by me! I was sick from start to finish with my first and I thought it was because I was induced. However, with my second I was then sick for about 20 hrs- of my ‘natural’ birth. I’m 40+4 at the mo. And taking zero chances with this again and have an anti emetic at home ( goijgnform

Xiaohei · 18/12/2019 23:53

Pressed post too soon!
(Going for a home birth). My feelings are contractions are one thing, but constant vomiting ( I couldn’t even drink water) while having contractions is a step too far.

Tinty · 18/12/2019 23:57

Not sick at all during first birth but sick all the way through the second.

AiryFairyMum · 19/12/2019 09:55

Was it the act of pushing which made you sick or the medicine do you think?

soulrunner · 19/12/2019 10:00

I had this- the pain of the contractions made me vomit. I had an injection both times and then it was fine..... once I got over the humiliation of my obstetrician shouting ‘nurse, hurry up and bring me x- I’ve got a vomiter’ across outpatients.

AiryFairyMum · 19/12/2019 14:14

My friend had seasickness bands in her second labour and said it helped - but I'd imagine an injection would be better.

deckthesauchiehall · 19/12/2019 14:18

I was sick a lot during my first labour but wasn't sick at all during my second.

4GreenApples · 19/12/2019 14:51

I was sick in all of my labours.

20viona · 19/12/2019 16:10

I was sick off the gas and air but I'd go through it again if I thought it would help.

Flicketyflack · 19/12/2019 16:14

Sick during first birth not sick during second
Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

cultmaskid · 19/12/2019 16:15

Can they give you an anti emetic

AiryFairyMum · 19/12/2019 17:39

I had a c section so not sure how this works. Are most women sick? My friend talked as though it was rare. It sounds like it happens a lot, or do most women have an anti emetic injection?

NotSoThinLizzy · 19/12/2019 21:49

I've had 3 babies only sick with one. He was back to back dont know if that made a difference

Tfoot75 · 19/12/2019 21:56

I was sick a lot during my first labour and not at all during second. Difference was the amount of pain, my first was back to back and in comparison, was excruciating. I don't react well to gas and air but the vomiting wasn't related to that. It makes me feel sick and dizzy but when I needed it, It didn't!

NichyNoo · 19/12/2019 21:56

I was sick with first baby (back to back so pain was horrendous) and only stopped vomiting when I had an epidural at 7cm. Wasn't sick with second baby - although I insisted on epidural at 5cm to avoid repeat of the vomiting.

CatkinToadflax · 23/12/2019 15:28

I was sick with my first and assumed it was the gas and air. I therefore avoided G&A in my second - and was horrendously sick, far more than the first time round! The poor midwife reappeared on the postnatal ward a couple of days later and the first thing she said to me was "I really hope you've stopped vomiting by now"! Xmas Blush

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 23/12/2019 15:32

The gas and air made me sick with my first, so I didn’t have any with my second and wasn’t sick.
