Sex to bring on labour?

TLH0307 · 03/02/2018 18:01

Hello! Just waiting on a spicy curry to be delivered, and because I’m dubious about whether that will do anything to bring on labour...has anyone actually gone in to labour shortly after doing the deed or is it a myth? I want a few tales to be able to tell my other half because the dopey bugger is genuinely afraid he’ll poke his unborn child in the face if we do the deed! 😂

After dtd at 10 pm with ds my waters broke at midnight when I was asleep and he was born at 2.55 am!!. (Second dc)

NapQueen · 03/02/2018 18:04

Second dc arrived morning after we dtd (hadnt dtd for months!!)

Rainshowers · 03/02/2018 18:07

On the flip side, due tomorrow, dtd the other night and absolutely nothing. Not even a few cramps. Worth a try though!

TLH0307 · 03/02/2018 18:32

Oh wow! Yeah rainshowers definitely worth a go, I think anything is worth a go at this late stage isn’t it! 😂

My midwife told me that if you swallow sperm it can bring labour on 🤔 needless to say I didn't try that as it was the last thing I wanted to do lol

FartnissEverbeans · 03/02/2018 18:37

I think there is actually some scientific evidence for this (to do with hormones in the sperm)...

Can't hurt I suppose (unless it works, in which case it's going to hurt a lot Grin)

TLH0307 · 03/02/2018 18:38

Hahaha swallowing sperm, that theory must have been started by a man!

Worked both times for me! DTD at about 10pm and waters broke around 5am, both times! Although both labours turned out to be very different! Good luck!

Amatree · 03/02/2018 18:38

Worked for me - DTD and contractions started within an hour!

TLH0307 · 03/02/2018 18:39

FartnissEverbeans yeah I imagine it’ll hurt quite a bit 😂

Definitely giving it a go with all these success stories!

My contractions started about an hour after DTD with DD1, she was born the next morning at 39+2.

Grumpyoldwoman007 · 03/02/2018 18:58

There are prostaglandins in semen which is what's used for induction of labour (science fact) 😁

Situp · 03/02/2018 18:59

Spicy food and sex to bring on labour.
Does anyone else suspect that this is a ruse by our DPs to get them curry and a shag?Confused

Mind you, I forced DH to dtd with DS 1 when I was 40+12 and I went into labour that night.Grin

Fannyfanakerpants · 03/02/2018 19:00

There is a chemical in semen that is in the pessary that they use in induction but a very small amount. Im pretty sure if you swallowed it, you'd need loads. Orgasms can bring on labour though, as can nipple stimulation. Both of which you can manage yourself if your not up to dtd.

amymel2016 · 03/02/2018 19:36

DTD at 11.30 p.m. waters broke at 1.00 a.m., DS born at 5.30 p.m. - it worked for us Wink

AHintOfStyle · 03/02/2018 19:45

It worked for me both times.
In fact, during the second labour the contractions died down a bit so we did it again to get things moving again 😂

AprilShowers16 · 03/02/2018 19:47

Worked for me, dtd in the evening and went into labour at 5am.

Uhohmummy · 03/02/2018 20:05

3 days overdue and I’m trying this tonight (and every night until the baby arrives)!
I have done everything to try and get this baby out but still no signs of anything happening. DH and I dtd a few nights ago and nothing but I saw the midwife today and she also said it’s the only thing that might work.

Chienrouge · 03/02/2018 20:06

Worked both times for me! Within 2 hours both times.

Chienrouge · 03/02/2018 20:07

But then I was 40+6 and 40+2 so chances are baby was ready to come out anyway Grin

TLH0307 · 03/02/2018 20:46

Woooo hopefully i’ll get laid tonight then after reading these out to my fella hahaha! 😂😂

Just use a condom...

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2018 20:53

All scientific evidence shows it doesn't work. Your thread is just attracting people who coincidentally laboured after sex. The vast, vast majority won't.

Lj8893 · 03/02/2018 20:55

drinkfeck why should she use a condom? Confused

There are prostaglandins in semen which is the same hormone that is used in induction of labour to ripen the cervix (although a small amount).
Also, when you orgasm your uterus contracts which could help labour start if your body is almost ready anyway!

Go for it!
