Is this the start of labour!?

Hi all,

Currently 40+6, woke up at around 7am for a wee, got back into bed and noticed I was having lower back pains, the kind of back pains you get when your on your period, tried to fall back asleep but for the last hour 1/2 the pains have been coming And going and are feeling worse, but I don't think there is a pattern to them

No pains in abdomen though, I have not had a bloody show either. Could this be me finally going into labour or just some BH?

Also would like to add I am getting pains down my thighs

Thanks for any advice

Definitely sounds like the beginnings! Keep moving around is my best advice.

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 21:36

I have been fully expecting to be induced on Friday as I have had nothing until today & my hosp will only allow you to go 10 days over. I have been dreading the thought of that as I have heard so many horror stories about inductions!!

So I am also anxiously hoping this is the real deal for me 🙏🏻

I have been doing the odd bits of cleaning today in the hopes of getting things moving, the pains seem to of ramped up after I changed our bedding (harder than it sounds when nearly 41 weeks pregnant!!)

Come on OP’s baby! Fingers crossed for you that this is it, sounds promising though Grin

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 22:42

Bath never helped, pains getting worse. I feel really agitated by them

Do you have a contraction timer OP? I had pains all day with DS and they were inconsistent, a few close together and then a big gap.

Don't forget you can call the hospital/labour unit for advice if you need it.

Good luck!

PinkBlueYellow · 29/01/2018 22:50

It certainly sounds like labour! How close together are the contractions?

ObiJuanKenobi · 29/01/2018 22:51

Ooooo how exciting!!!!

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 23:08

There exactly like @BalloonDinosaur has described, some pains are very close together then I can have a big gap, that's what's making me doubt it being the real thing! It's so confusing!!

So I've been timing my pains now for the past hour and this is how frequent they are, as you can see there quite all over the place, still mostly in my lower back. They don't seem to be changing in intensity either...

Is this the start of labour!?

I Found this stage to be the longest, op. Grab as much sleep as you can, if you can. You'll be meeting your baby later today!!!

dontquit · 30/01/2018 02:00

I had this for 3-4days with my first. The tiredness is a killer. I regret not tying to sleep more but I was excited/anxious all at the same time and pains seem worse when lying down. Do try though if you can at all. Hopefully they will ramp up and become regular soon. Best of luck x

PeonyTruffle · 30/01/2018 06:01

How are you getting on OP?

Gemxo · 30/01/2018 11:11

Hi all,

Quick update while I'm not contracting!! Turns out the last 3 days I've been in slow labour, the back pain I've had have been contractions due to baby being back to back,

Back pains just kept getting worse and worse so I woke up DP who started to time them for me, all of a sudden I was screaming out in pain and the contractions were coming one after the other, fast forward to 3am midwife checks me at hospital and I'm 5cm!!

Currently lying in my bed drugged up on diamorphine and Gas an air, will be examined again at 12 to see how far I am, so to answer my own question, YES I WAS IN LABOUR!!

Wooo hoo! Sounds like you're doing brilliantly!! Grin🎉

Chaosofcalm · 30/01/2018 11:19

Sounds good. I know you will be very tired but it best to get out of bed, walk around, bounce on the ball, be on all fours if you feel up to it.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 30/01/2018 11:22

That’s how my first labour started. Good luck!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 30/01/2018 11:23

My last baby was back to back although i wasnt told this until he was crowning!

PeonyTruffle · 30/01/2018 11:24

Wooohooooo OP! Excellent news Smile

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 30/01/2018 11:26

Wahoo!! Back to back is a pain in the backside - literally :) DD was similarly awkward. Hope everything goes smoothly and you have a snuggly newborn in your arms very soon.

Assuming you give birth today your LO will be exactly 40 years younger than me! Happy birthday fellow Aquarian!

Owlettele · 30/01/2018 11:28

Good luck OP excited for a baby update. Well done getting to 5!!

cottagecheesecrumpets · 30/01/2018 12:25

Well done OP!
Lovely baby snuggles for you soon Smile

ObiJuanKenobi · 30/01/2018 13:02

How exciting OP best of luck to you!!!

prettymess · 30/01/2018 19:01

Any news? I hope all is well Flowers

Gemxo · 30/01/2018 19:10

Baby Alfie was born today at 13:40 weighing a chunky 8lbs 8oz's, labour was hard but bearable up untill 6cms. labour was horrific after waters broke, I was contracting without breaks for 1 hour and went from 6cms to 10cms in 45 mins, 30 mins of pushing later I had my beautiful boy on my chest. He is well worth it 💙

Ah damn it. Now I'm broody. Those first cuddles are just mind bogglingly special.

Congratulations! Thanks
