Is this the start of labour!?

Hi all,

Currently 40+6, woke up at around 7am for a wee, got back into bed and noticed I was having lower back pains, the kind of back pains you get when your on your period, tried to fall back asleep but for the last hour 1/2 the pains have been coming And going and are feeling worse, but I don't think there is a pattern to them

No pains in abdomen though, I have not had a bloody show either. Could this be me finally going into labour or just some BH?

Also would like to add I am getting pains down my thighs

Thanks for any advice

Sounds promising!! Good luck!

It could be the start of labour. I would ring your maternity triage department and they will discuss your symptoms with you & give you advice ☺
My early Labour was a bit like that, there was a pattern to my contractions but they never really seemed to get much closer together but did become more painful but my dd was back to back so think this is what caused this (we didn't know she was back to back)

Good luck OP! 😀

Sounds promising!

Would also like to add I'm having a lot of discharge Blush I really hope this is the start!! Pregnancy has been hard and I have been dreading getting closer to being induced

Yes. Mine started with A LOT of discharge after my gynaecologist tampered a bit. Haha

But labour started exactly with backpain and then moved on to the front to recognisable contractions.

kikibo · 29/01/2018 10:19

Good luck!

ThunderboltsLightning · 29/01/2018 10:42

Backache sounds positive. I don't really remember my bump hurting at all- it was all my pelvis really. Good luck!

Heartofglass12345 · 29/01/2018 11:24

My first labour started with back pain, it was bloody agony, i preferred it when i started having proper contractions! Hopefully your baby will be here soon!

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 13:29

I fell asleep after about 2 1/2 hours to try and sleep through some of the pain and woke up to them virtually gone!!! So frustrating, they are not completely gone as I can still feel a few niggles here and there. I really wanted this to be the start 😭

kikibo · 29/01/2018 18:21

It'll start again don't worry.

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 19:30

I spoke too soon! It did start again, had the pains now since about 3-4pm I think they are moving towards the front now. First time mum so this is all new to me!!

I still don't think there is a consistent pattern to them though, there just coming and going as they please, oh the uncertainty!!

Will be 1 week overdue tomorrow

Afreshcuppateaplease · 29/01/2018 20:42

Do you have a ball to bounce on op?

rachrach2 · 29/01/2018 20:57

Good luck, how exciting!

Wow1234 · 29/01/2018 20:59

Keep us posted!!!

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 21:02

Yep I have a ball, I'm currently lying in a warm bath to help with the pains and plan on bouncing on my ball after this. Pains are still very inconsistent which is annoying as it's making me doubt if this is really it or not!! Ahhh!!

What I have noticed though is the last couple of pains I've had my stomach has gone really hard!! Like baby is pushing his bum right outBlush

Owlettele · 29/01/2018 21:08

Yes to the bump hard as if bum out!! - means things are moving. Had this with my daughter. Stomach was a v.strange shape.

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 21:11

Yes I've noticed that too @Owlettele !!! My stomach is very lobsided at the minute and feels very squishy down low but super hard when I get a pain!

OP posts:
DontbeaDickaboutit · 29/01/2018 21:14

This is very exciting OP! Best of luck!

Owlettele · 29/01/2018 21:16

Good luck.......exciting and I'm sure a little daunting for you. Hope you're soon having newborn snuggles and the best tea and toast of your life.

helensburgh · 29/01/2018 21:17

Exciting. Try and go on all fours as if you are reading a newspaper on the carpet. If that makes sense. Just incase of back to back that helps to turn.

Gemxo · 29/01/2018 21:24

Fingers crossed I won't be posting in a few hours saying false alarm and pains have gone again 🙈

27 weeks with my first and it's all so exciting!

Good luck OP, hope this is the real thing for you.

BrutusMcDogface · 29/01/2018 21:27

Good luck, Gem! First labours can have a very slow start, unfortunately. Mine did. It does sound like things might be starting, though! Flowers
