First time mum - was birth early or late?

I'm expecting my first in April and very excited. My parents, who live far away, have arranged their visit for just over 2 weeks after my due date. I was hoping to have some time with just my husband and the baby before their visit, but have now realised some women can be as late as 2 weeks past their due date. Wah.

Were you on time with your first? How early or late?

12 days late (after being induced starting 10 days late)

chocolateorangeowls · 23/12/2017 19:25

38 weeks.

My midwife told me to eat 6 dates a day from 36 weeks. Apparently there is good evidence for it helping labour to start. In a year only 1 of her ladies went over 41 weeks (and she didn't like dates ha ha.)

BossWitch · 23/12/2017 19:26

Bang on my due date!

SomeOtherDay · 23/12/2017 19:29

3 weeks early!

HumpHumpWhale · 23/12/2017 19:30

2 weeks late. And in hospital for 9 interminable days.
Will they be helpful? I was totally freaked out by my first baby. The last thing I wanted was time alone with him and DH! Having my mum with us was great.

Induced at term plus 13 Confused My mum says I was 6 weeks early( & supposed to be dead) my sister was early as well. So no correlation between me and my Mum

elQuintoConyo · 23/12/2017 19:33

40+12 then i stayed in hospital 5 days. My dad booked a flight out and arrived at the hospital just as i was leaving! He stayed 3 nights, we had 1 night alone, then my mum came for 3 weeks. It was Christmas. She didn't lift a finger for anything: making a cuppa, washing a spoon, popping to the shop for mil, holding the baby. She sat in a chair in the sun and read, having a siesta when she felt like it.

Makes me angry how much of a pushover i was, but i was in a lot of pain and ds had colic, i was in deep shock with no sleep. Be prepared to put your foot down about things or have your partner guide family into not being asshats Grin

Waters broke day before due date, Son born day after due date

QueenCity · 23/12/2017 19:36

15 days late.

notacooldad · 23/12/2017 19:36

Our DS1 arrived on due date.
DS2 was 10 days early.

Liefster · 23/12/2017 19:37

10 days late. My midwife told me to add two weeks on to my due date as apparently only 4% of babies arrive bang on time. In my NCT group of 8 of us, 3 babies were early (one was induced early); one was a day late, another was 3 days late and the other 3 were 10 days or more. It really varies!

Interestingly my mum was 10 days late having me and we both ended up with emergency c-sections!

Hope all goes well for you and your baby is one of the 4% Smile

Misslemon01 · 23/12/2017 19:49

Thank you ladies, all really helpful, especially @chocolateorangeowls noted re dates (I love a good Medjool!).

My mum is very practical and will no doubt activate cleaning/cooking mode the minute she steps into the house. I just find her fussing a bit overwhelming and worry I'll fall out with her. Did you all generally find your mothers/MILs helpful post birth, or not?

londonfeather · 23/12/2017 19:49

I was induced as was overdue so he arrived two weeks late to the day! Went home the day after. Good luck

Unevenbeard · 23/12/2017 19:50

5 and 10 days late

Babababababybel23 · 23/12/2017 19:51

She was born at 39 +4 but I was in labour for 48 hours, little rascal. She is only 3mo now and was definetly worth it

Babababababybel23 · 23/12/2017 19:56

And no family members were not helpful. My MIL came the day I gave birth - came home the same day. She insisted on putting a hat and about 3 covers on my baby as apparantly my house was freezing. Midwife told me babies overheat very easily and you should never leave a hat on them when you are inside. She wouldn't bloody listen to that though.
My fmily came to stay over and didn't do anything to help. I had to make tea for five people and then feed the baby in between and not a single person went near a nappy.
I should of kept them away longer

Ropsleybunny · 23/12/2017 19:58

15 days late.

BikeRunSki · 23/12/2017 20:03

My first baby came at 36+5 and we were in for a week, largely because DS would not feed and lost s lot of weight.
My second came at 39+0 and we were in for 5 days, largely because I needed further surgery.

Friend of mine had 2 emcs, then had her third baby naturally, with no intervention, no pain relief and was Home 4 hours later.

You really can’t tell.

LRL2017 · 23/12/2017 20:04

4 days early. I was in hospital day before due to problems and midwife said I was ages away as baby was too high up. 12 hours later my waters broke!
