Octo, my nephew was a bit like that when my sister was pregnant, she made extra special fuss of her older one when the baby was born and everything was fine. I'd try not to take it to heart, how old is he?

lulumama · 29/03/2007 15:51

there is a complex trigger of hormones, which i think is partly down to the baby but no-one is really quite sure how it all works...but the two homrones released when you have sex, orgasm, and nipple stim, are oxytocin and you get prostoglandins in semen, all of which ripen the cervix and can trigger or strengthen contractions....

but babies come when they are ready, but it is nice to feel like you are helping !

ds2 is 4 at end of May. Yes I think alot of fuss and time with him will be the answer - just feel for him so much - such a huge change for him. Ds1 was only 22 months when ds2 was born so he didn;t know any different really and as far as he is concerned ds2 has always been here! DH has 4 weeks off so we will have lots of family time together - can go for days out etc and get ourselves sorted into some kind of routine where they each get dedicated time (well thats the plan!)

It is such a hard age for them, their world is how they want it to be and then mum comes along and changes it, but if it was down to the siblings I would expect a lot of people would never go on to have more than one.

Just time and attention is the key I think. Thankfully DS1 has been absolutely brilliant with DS2, DS1 was 5 on the 18th of March though so a little bit older, a lot easier to explain things in detail and prepare him mentally for the change.

Maybe you could try and get a teddy or something to show DS2 that you can 'love' the teddy at the same time as you love him, though fully appreciate that it wouldn't always be practical!

Hi octo My ds is 3.8, will be 4 in august. Although he seems ok about the baby and he hugs and kisses the 'baby' (my bump) sometimes which is very sweet his behaviour is changing quite alot. I think he does have alot of worries but cant really understand them and express them so at the moment is often a very angry boy or a very scared boy. Its great that your DH has 4 weeks off though.

Ahh sorry just been on phone for half hour since writing this so if conversation has moved on I apologise and have also forgotten the rest of what i was going to say!

Debbsyandson · 29/03/2007 21:18

octo this is how me and nat were very day,at least you know somethings gearing up.i was like this on and off 4 two weeks went to hospital twice,

NatalieJane · 30/03/2007 11:17

Octo, if you read up on an irritable uterous, I found things saying that none of the contractions were actually doing anything to get you ready for the birth, but it was all lies, I had about 6 weeks in all of all the starts stops, which left me with a two hour labour, and a 4 minute second stage Would do it again in a heartbeat

Debbsyandson · 30/03/2007 11:33

Me too (not the actual labour mine was 12 bloody hours) but the doing it again bit lol.

octopussyinyummyeastereggs · 30/03/2007 11:54

Thanks! Have had bath and all calmed down a bit - but now the warmth of the bath is wearing off can feel the niggling again!

Am busy watching a woodlice crawl around my playroom - getting in a bit of a tiz!!! That is how sad I am

May go into Bath for a potter & nice cake - pick up that RLT and clary sage

jenwa · 30/03/2007 17:19

I thought it was funny! Like I said in other thread, people dont have to open it do they!
Its an open discussion and if people dont want to read it then they should not open it/join in etc. Just look away, simple as that!
