Wow they really have that in the states...i thought it was just in the movies, Forrest Gump like.

We do the school run here, i do it 3 times a day atm till ds#3 goes all day...it sucks.

NativityJane · 01/12/2006 21:47

Your are right Peachy, time has flown by! I didn't make it to the surgery because of DS still being at home with that fluey bug thing, so the midwife came to our house did all the ante-natal checks but wouldn't do the sweep at home, so it is now booked for Wednesday at the surgery. It is the third time they have put it off though so I get the feeling they don't like doing them for some reason so try to get out of it as much as possible.

largevirginbirthandtonic · 01/12/2006 21:48

What do you think about the kids watching? Is your ds gonna watch NJ?

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 01/12/2006 21:48

Oh come on it is fun to have people to talk about these things with.

peachygirl · 01/12/2006 21:49

if something hasn't happened by then sweep or labour I think you should start getting very stroppy

NativityJane · 01/12/2006 21:49

MKG, the school run is just everytime you have to go back and forth to drop off/pick the kids up.

I have a very easy one, the school is literally across the road from our house.

lulumama · 01/12/2006 21:50

here...you don;t pay for maternity services on the whole..and private health care often doenslt cover ante natal & birth & post natal services....

can employ a private midwife for around £2 000 or so...but she could not deliver the baby in an NHS hospital...but could at home....

No we have buses, mostly in suburbs and rural areas, cities kids walk. The theory is that because it is a public education, and attendance is mandatory or the parents can go to jail, that the school must provide transportation. We don't choose where we go to school, it's done by the district we live in (unless you go private) so why should we have to take our kids to school.

Besides here the cool kids ride the bus. Until high school and then only losers ride the bus.

lulumama · 01/12/2006 21:52

i'm having lots of fun and learning lots...and yes MKG.....1000 + posts and not any bitching!

LG&T, I would like him to be here, but if he starts getting scared or worried we will ship him out to next door As DH pointed out, grown men can be traumatised by watching a birth! DS does want to be here so I have gone into some pretty graphic detail with him and he watches the birthing programs with me, he doesn't seem at all phased by it, but it is different seeing it on the telly and then seeing your mummy going through it!

Peachy, believe me, I am already having my strops! I am mostly OK and then every now and then I have an hour of seriously feeling sorry for myself and snapping at everyone over nothing.

NativityJane · 01/12/2006 21:54

Yes it has been a lot of fun really, it is just that I will be remember on MN for this bit of fun for the rest of my MN days!!

NativityJane · 01/12/2006 21:55

lulumama · 01/12/2006 21:56

nearly 40 posts already........! can we get to 2000 before baby arrives!

OP posts:
NativityJane · 01/12/2006 21:57

Why stop at 2000?? 4000 would be great...!! LOL

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 01/12/2006 21:58

Lulu, here the whole midwife thing varies.

A certified nurse midwife can delivery at home or in a hospital, because CNMs have to be associated with an ob practice. The practice I used with ds had two OBs and 7 CNMs. All CNM have degrees in nursing and post grad work in midwifery. 96% of births are done in hospitals.

A direct entry midwife or certified professional midwife usually aren't permitted to do hospital births because they don't have the same background as CNMs and some states don't license them, in which case it would be illegal for them to delivery babies.

lulumama · 01/12/2006 21:58

i can;t take much more than 2000!

I just looked to see if threre is a doula near me, there is one in Fareham (v close) She seems nice, Sue Stocks. But she has 5 children herself including 3 yr old twins...(mars?!) and is only working in between school hours...thats it for my area...so lulu you or mars will have to relocate before may, there isnothing else for it...

largevirginbirthandtonic · 01/12/2006 22:08
