Hope you're ok. You must be very uncomfortable if nothing else.

Re: Full moon. I am ruled by the moon. I don't read horoscopes or anything, but I tend to go a bit doo-lally around the time of the full moon. It seems to be a bit more than a coincidence. I was between being in a complete strop yesterday and being hysterical. DD looked out the car window last night after I'd had a go at her about any number of things and said, "Oh, it's the full moon. That's what's wrong with you."

lulumama · 04/12/2006 09:41

hi ...yes any oedeama esp with rise in BP has to be checked out !!!!!

probably nothing, but pre eclampsia is not something to be taken lightly....hopefully, this will turn out to be nothing , like last time...

BTW...you could ask for an internal / sweep while you are there!

lulumama · 04/12/2006 12:20

morning debs...is it your sweep today?

OP posts:
Dingdongdebbsyandbibbyonhigh · 04/12/2006 12:24

yes it is well im hoping anyway, she did mention it last weds but then she said she doubted she would be seeing me today. If not i will ask for one..
wonder how njs getting on ive got a feeling they are going to keep hold of her dunno why just have.

jabberwocky · 04/12/2006 13:31

I've got the same feeling debs. After all, it is a full moon...

lulumama · 04/12/2006 13:34

if she is very swollen and has raised BP , esp if protein in her wee- the least they will do is monitor her ,possibly discuss induction......if she is favourable, a sweep might be enought to start things..but would be a shame to go from home birth to medicalised induction and hospital birth....have to see what happens ,i suppose

hey everyone!! It's cold and windy and I don't want to leave the house at all. NJ good luck at the doctor, and debsy good luck at the sweep.

Dingdongdebbsyandbibbyonhigh · 04/12/2006 13:54

thanks just off now

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 04/12/2006 13:57

Just came accross this new thread.....best of luck sweetheart, I think your time is now .

NativityJane · 04/12/2006 14:24

We are back.

I went in, they didn't seem too concerned with the swelling as I'd had it before, they checked my blood pressure and it was fine so the heat was off, the midwife decided she wanted to do a trace anyway for some reason, 20 minutes she said, an hour later she came back and said the trace was fine (and it had been picking up contractions!!), and I now needed a wee so she gave me a hat thing because she wanted to see how much I was actually doing, she came back and said there was protein in it and it was very concentrated so home birth was going out of the window, she took some bloods (that we will get the results of this afternoon) and she had to get a SOH or whatever they are called, he came and felt all of my swollen bits looked at everything and said I was fine to go, I couldn't do another wee so she has given me an evelope thing to take a sample to the docs this afternoon, but as long as the bloods come back OK I don't think anything else is going to happen.

So back to sitting and waiting, I don't know if I am more pleased that everything is OK, or more dissapointed that they didn't decide to start me off just so it was over!!

Thanks for everyones good wishes though

Dingdongdebbsyandbibbyonhigh · 04/12/2006 15:31

blimey didnt think we would be hearing from you!

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 04/12/2006 15:54

oh fgs.

She's baaaa-aaack, everyone...
apparently all she's got to do is piss in an envelope and then everything will be fine...

lulumama · 04/12/2006 15:57

wee ing in an envelope...that is not in any books i;ve read..must be a new fangled modern thing..

so...pre eclampsia or no? and no home birth? a sweep ? an internal? anything ????????

OP posts:
twelvedaysofchristmas · 04/12/2006 15:59

Bloody shame about the home birth. Out of interest luludoula; what happens when you engage a doula to help with a homebirth and then you have to go into hospital? Does the doula come to help you when you get home instead?

lulumama · 04/12/2006 16:04

i imagine, unless the hospital only allowed one birth partner.,the doula would accompany the mum to hospital....even then she could go with and wait outside the delivery room ..... i guess it would be for the mum and doula to talk about 'what if ' scenarios when booking..

the whole point of the doula is the continuous one to one emotional support, for the entire labour and birth so a doula would go where the birth is!

.if you transfer mid labour, the doula would go with you...if plans got changed pre labour, the doula would go to the hospital......AFAIK...

OP posts:
lulumama · 04/12/2006 16:05

AFAIK...doulas make a post natal visit after birth to ensure all is going well re feeding and to meet the new arrival properly...

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 04/12/2006 16:08

I had a doula at the hospital with ds1. It was the best thing I did as far as his birth was concerned.

twelvedaysofchristmas · 04/12/2006 16:10

Oh, not sure why I thought doulas were for home births only... I like the idea. Reckon DH's nose would be a bit out of joint though.

lulumama · 04/12/2006 16:13

LOL....doulas are great and will be supportive to the husband too!!

plus, my DH kept saying, you;'re doing really well, i know it hurts! and it was a little irritating, because he had no idea!! whereas a woman, who has had children, know just what it feels like!!! and having a doula there means if it is a long labour, DH can go and rest , have snack etc..knowing that you are not alone...

.a good doula shouldn;t ruin the dynamic between husband and wife....plus it can be terribly hard for men to see someone they love and cherish in seemingly terrible pain...a doula can provide gentle reassurance that it is absolutely normal and ok....

i wish i;d had one !!!!!! LOL

OP posts:
lulumama · 04/12/2006 16:16

have a look here for more about doulas!

and

train and place doulas nationwide
