Did you wax (or trim/use cream or whatever) your fanjo in preparation for giving birth??

And if so why??

Hand on heart, right now I really couldn't give a flying fu*k what my fanjo looks like. I'm sure the MW doesn't care either.

Why put yourself through the agony of waxing when PG (I've done it once to go on holiday when PG so I know it bloody hurt 10,000 times more)and why tie your self up in knots trying to trim or apply cream???

I just don't get it.

This is about 10000000036 on my list of things to be worried about before birth. I think of waxing as something to be done to avoid unfortunate 'fringing' around edge of bikini or skimpy underwear. It had never occured to me that it was something to be done before childbirth before coming on mumsnet.

mishw · 26/11/2006 15:02

This never ocurred tome with DD1, however after reading a similar thread on her a few months ago I made sure I tidied up for DD2 a couple of months back! I did feel better for being tidier (easier to keep clean post birth) but to be honest if I hadn't read the thread I would have been just as happy in my full natural state!

newgirl · 26/11/2006 18:07

I trimmed hair and got pedicure done so AFTER the birth i felt slightly more human and not just grotty knackered feeding machine

ELM · 26/11/2006 18:23

I've had it done for DS1's birth (imminent!) because of having several internal examinations by the same cute young male registrar, with a gaggle of students observing....
Felt like I should have offered him a strimmer and some safety glasses!!

It hurt a lot more than it normally does though.

In the rigid nasty 1960s of unnatural births on your back with no birth plans they woudl give you an enema and shave you on admission. They still do in many countries.

strongenough · 27/11/2006 18:22

when you cant see your fanjo how are you ment to be all perfectly tidy and bare.
when i gave birth i was trimmed, waxing when not pregnant is bad enough let alone when your prenant i tried but i couldnt handle it so i ended up patchy.
who really cares what your fanjo looks like im sure the mw's have seen worse

belgianmama · 27/11/2006 19:41

Funny enough I worried about the other way around. Being European and knowing no one around me that did shave down below like me, I let it all grow back for both births as I was afraid that the mw's would think I was a perve or something. Now almost being a midwife myself I have noticed that it is quite unusual to see a natural one, so I think that if I ever have another baby I'll definitely keep on trimming or let DH do the job when I can't reach anymore.

belgianmama · 27/11/2006 19:43

Oh and yes midwives do not care about what your fanjo looks like, but very very hairy legs (with thick black long hairs) DO get commented on behind doors !

gmummy · 27/11/2006 22:25

wish I'd had the top of my bejingo waxed beforehand - it had to be done before I went in for my ceasar and I'm pretty sure my midwife would not have been able to gve up midwifery for a career as a barber.
I also can't help thinking the regrowth might have been a bit less itchy.
As for the section from my belly button to my toes (yep, the whole area) - lets just say there was enough hair to stuff a small(ish) throw cushion and the midwife got see it all. In fact, I'm not sure if it was the pethidine but I swear she asked for a guide and a machete at one point!

lizlegs · 28/11/2006 09:55

bejingo

my fave is fanjita

littlemisspiggy · 28/11/2006 13:15

Yup, got dh to do it just efore going to hospital.

littlemisspiggy · 28/11/2006 13:16

before even.

littlemisspiggy · 28/11/2006 13:18

have read the opening post properly now.
The reason was 1. it felt tidier and 2.If I was going to need stitching up I'd rather not have any hairs caught up in it.

UCM · 28/11/2006 13:55

Ummmmmmmm, won't bother changing my name for this, but earlier on I tried a bit of Ladygarden Maintenance with a sachet of cream from boots. I put it on and left it for the full 6 minutes. Bits started to come off and in the shower more came off but I am left with tufts all over which is weird as if you pull a little, bits come off.

I think my point is, which cream to I use to get rid of it all rather than have a tufty muff which is what I have been left with. Recommendations please. Sorry if this has left you feeling sick but I am due to give birth in 8 weeks so need to be tidy.

UCM · 28/11/2006 14:05

Should have added I have never tried this before. Have trimmed/shaved round me bits previously but never used cream.

UCM · 28/11/2006 16:46

Well no one answered, so I have been out and bought a sachet of Nair. Hopefully this will make my fanjo pretty again.

JenJam · 28/11/2006 17:25

yep.
because i always feel a bit better about myself, younger and better looking with a neater ladygarden. and i thought i might appreciate that when i'm sat in my pyjamas for the fifth day with chocolate down my front.
and it didn't hurt one bit.
also saw the hygienist the week before and that didn't hurt either. body must've been releasing some kind of 'pain coping' mechanism.
shame about my triangle nowadays one year on from the birth it's a square! shocking

JenJam · 28/11/2006 17:28

oh yes and i thought if i had a c-section i'd prefer if i had a nice wax rather than a quick nhs razor trim across the top

mumfor1standfinaltime · 28/11/2006 23:30

Dh kept me in trim towards the end as I couldn't see!
I ended up having an emergency c section so was glad that I had 'tidied up' myself (well dh did) and not someone else doing it! I remember them looking at me and going 'oh no this one doesn't need it' lol.
Very important for me to stay tidy, silly really.

Hanifah · 21/02/2007 20:16

used veet hair removal cream but didnt leave dat long before washing off, result - slight layer left without itching or rash,i wud recommend but b careful not to get to close to ur bits

walshvet · 21/02/2007 20:23

I thought it very important 2 days prior to birth to do all over fake tan for the photos for the postnatal euphoria shot how vain is that??just trimmed the old quim with a bic though which seemed to suffice !!

sooo badly wanted to, had a waxing appt booked but my body had other plans.

still havent waxed it tho, hes 22m

ja9 · 21/02/2007 22:02

went for waxing at 31 weeks pg. horrendous experience. went to usual place with usual beautician and usual wax... she had to wax each bit about 3 / 4 times because hormones had changed texture of hair and wax wasn't sticking to it.

thought i was going to have baby there and then on her table!

Rumpel · 21/02/2007 22:12

Went for wax and came out in a rash - lovely. usually wax myself but didn't for whole pg as was very sick and miserable the whole time. Had a trim and painted my toenails - had the most awful delivery but everyone commented on how pretty my toenails were! Would recommend you do though, as stitching, bleeding etc keeps it more hygenic and less chance of stitching in your hair!!!
