Did you wax (or trim/use cream or whatever) your fanjo in preparation for giving birth??

And if so why??

Hand on heart, right now I really couldn't give a flying fu*k what my fanjo looks like. I'm sure the MW doesn't care either.

Why put yourself through the agony of waxing when PG (I've done it once to go on holiday when PG so I know it bloody hurt 10,000 times more)and why tie your self up in knots trying to trim or apply cream???

I just don't get it.

i really wanted to give her a trim but i couldn't see it or get my arm round the enormous bump to do it properly - so i probably went all punk style

StrangeTown · 23/11/2006 23:35

Lady T - just go in with your full power bush and be proud.

ellasxmasshoppingmadmum1 · 23/11/2006 23:38

Well as a midwife i will reassure any of you who are worried that we couldn't care less about how hairy your mary is or isn't.But i have reflected recently that more and more women have shaven or neatly trimmed ones, so it's quite unusual to see a natural looking one these days!! When I went in in labour nearly 4 yrs ago mine was au naturel as couldn't see down there to do anything and wouldn't let dh near me, and no way do I have the balls (so to speak) to go for a wax!!

Oh, forgot to say I did shave the top bit just in case I needed an emergency c-section (being my normal neurotic self), to save myself the humiliation of having it done by staff.

nearlythree · 23/11/2006 23:41

By the time I had no 3 I was so huge I couldn't even reach it, let alone see what I was doing!

BadHair · 23/11/2006 23:54

Yes, I trimmed and Immac'd as best as I could both times. I had visions of dses having to part the "foliage", in David Bellamy-esque fashion, to get out if I'd left things in their natural state.
Will hopefully remember to do the same when no. 3 arrives next year.

Nemoinapeartree · 23/11/2006 23:58

Couple of days before going in to be induced with Ds and DD then Dh has given the old lady garden a trim for me..wouldnt do the waxing lark but he makes sure it is err tidy..lol Shall be doing the same again this time.

fortyplus · 24/11/2006 00:35

JoolsToo has hit the nail on the head -years ago if you hadn't shaved your own then they did it for you when you got to hospital!
I've just had minor problem 'down below' so made sure everything nice & neat before I went in. I mean, if you did that for a living you wouldn't want to wade through a forest of pubes to see what you were getting at, would you?

elibumbum · 24/11/2006 10:00

I shaved my legs and bikini line during early stages of labour. I would have been more worried about hairy legs during labour as could see them!

plibble · 24/11/2006 10:03

No. I figured if I couldn't see it, it wasn't happening. I did experience a brief moment of when I was on the operating table and the consultant said "shave please". One of the medical types whipped out the world's cheapest razor and brandished it at me and I thought "that's not nice". So next time I will be brazilianing before heading to the hospital.

foxinsocks · 24/11/2006 10:08

I didn't the first time round and when I stripped off, I noticed the midwife looked at my fanjo with great surprise...and then I looked at it (having not bothered to look for ooooh about 3 months) and noticed it did look a bit like the beard on the wild man from Borneo

needless to say, second time round, I gave it a bit of a trim

hotmama · 24/11/2006 10:14

The week before dd1 was due, I had my highlights done and had a half-leg, underarm and bikini wax - dd1 was 9 days late. Pre-children I regularly got waxed. Thinking about it this was the last time I got waxed!.

Didn't when having dd2, but did "immac" a bit - had a c-section so the midwife gave me a trim!

sunnysideup · 24/11/2006 10:43

god, this would never have crossed my mind! I couldn't see it, so what did I care??? LTH I am with the flying fu*k team.

ballbaby · 25/11/2006 07:19

Think waxing is a good idea as might prepare you for the pain of childbirth!

I didn't bother - you lose all dignity during the whole birthing process what difference does a few hairs make!

tissy · 25/11/2006 07:26

I went in for an elective section, and the MW asked if i'd shaved. I said no, I can't see or reach it (I was huge!)She then commented that dh could have done it- he turned green at that point and she tutted and flounced off to get the razor...

tron · 25/11/2006 10:36

oooohh before hoped induction with dd i immacced, so relived as they decided no induction c section nessecary mw came with a pinny an a tesco value looking razor she looked down and said oooh it's pretty neat you don't have to be subjected to my shaving techique. I did it as after ds emergency section mw commented ooohhh they didn't do a very good job shaving you , i'd completely forgotten legs pits foofie and was mortified - was lasting memory and still blush to this day

Highlander · 25/11/2006 13:31

I had elective sections both times. Thorough bikini wax beforehand.

Shaving is associated with an increased chance of wound infection.

kdinas · 25/11/2006 15:14

oh god no!
NO! No!
Too much to think about, and dh would have been mortified I think!
Although I think the midwives did have a bit of a giggle at my expence, but I was a lady and ignored them.
Higher concerns and all that........

WideWebWitch · 25/11/2006 15:30

I'm with you and gemmitygem on this LTH.

Pinotmum · 25/11/2006 15:38

I couldn't see my Mary let alone style it. I left it in it's natural state. The midwife did say ds had a good head of hair tough

maveta · 25/11/2006 17:27

I usually go get waxed, legs and brazilian, every 4-6 weeks..i don´t find it more painful now that I am pregnant..so don´t see why I would actually STOP getting waxed now I am. That seems more odd to me.
Nothing wrong with wanting a tidy one and besides, I live in a hot country where less hair is a distinct advantage.
Hospitals here are known for still shaving as routine so in fact the last time I got waxed the girl said, ´you must make an appt for a couple of weeks before you are due so we can get it all off so they can´t shave you´!!

CheekyGirl · 25/11/2006 21:17

Ok - a midwife's point of view here:

I honestly don't mind a jot whether women are totally 'bald' down there or have a veritable jungle.

However, it does make my life a little easier if things are fairly 'neat' in the fanjo area. This way, it's easier to perform internal examinations (don't have to burrow through the undergrowth to get there) and also to watch the baby's head emerge (no games of 'who's hair?').

The pubes matted with blood thing makes sense too....

expatinscotland · 25/11/2006 21:23

I've been waxing for so long a lot of the hair follicles have been destroyed and I don't have to do it as often anymore.

I can also now do it myself, although I had it professionally done when I could no longer see round my bump.

figgypud · 25/11/2006 22:07

Hello, haven't read all of the posts yet!
I was going to book in for a wax but went for a routine scan at 36weeks and ended up having an emergency induction then and there!
SOOOOO wasn't prepared muct have been a proper jungle
TBH though didn't even cross my mind!
