oh god charlie I hope that doesn't happen with me too - although I am bopping to my new excellent Jools Holland cd whenever I get the chance!!

Unfortunately we have BT call minder so I cannot screen calls but at the mo I can only squeak at people so they don't talk for long anyway!!

TLB, I tried everything, loads of sex (very uncomfy and not at all enjoyable !!), nipple tweaking, curries, raspberry leaf tea, pineapple (even ate 3 one day, no labour, just serious indigestion and sickness !!!) - sorry to say no great tips. Swimming may help, but at the end of the day I guess baby will come when he / she is good and ready (still give everything a go though !)

MalmoMum · 29/04/2002 22:11

TLB can't you just set your call minder to 0 rings and adjust your pick up message. You can ask people to only leave a message about other things and you can pick up your phone whenever you feel like it to check if those annoying pips are there.

Very trivial posting but I thought it might give you something to do meantime.

JoAnne427 · 30/04/2002 14:08

oh Scummymummy you make me LAUGH! Here I am, pointing and clicking, doing that thing - what is it called when you just read a thread? Hovering? Anyway, I burst out laughing when I got to your comment! And sniksnak's (twice!)...

Best luck TLB - maybe as a tradeoff you will get a quick delivery?!? fingers and toes crossed for you!

TLB · 30/04/2002 18:25

Well I am still here and still very pregnant!! I am also still whispering and squeaking at people - I have resorted to actually writing things down it is less painful for everyone!!

Apparantly my voicebox and larynx is a victim of the 'ligament stretching' we all have during pregnancy!! Maybe it is to stop you screaming too loud in labour!!

Mears I thought you seemed rather knowledgeable I have just read on the 2nd labours quick thread that you are midwife - your note makes even more sense now!!

Anyway apart from feeling a little wobbly chin like this morning - I am fine and ready to pop!!

Thank you for all your advice - i have tried everything (well almost!)

TLB - good luck and I know how you are feeling - dd didn't arrive for 15 days after due date and I had been getting small contractions for 2 days before they finally induced me. Try to keep a PMA (positive mental attitude) at all times (yeah right, as if!!!) Good luck

TLB · 01/05/2002 13:50

Thanks Lizzer - Ia m desperatley hoping to avoid being induced as well as I am booked into a rather wonderful 'homebirth' unit in petersfield which is just sublime!.

TLB I'm sure it will be great, I had DD in a natural birthing centre attached to the main hospital and it was fab, can't praise it or the midwives enough. Lovely, relaxing surroundings to give birth in

batey · 06/05/2002 20:06

TLB How's it going, any joy yet?

TLB · 10/05/2002 11:05

Hello

I am still waddling around getting bigger everyday - I am now officially 9 days over and when I saw a midwife on Tuesday she railroaded me into agreeing to an induction on Saturday, but at my next antenatal yesterday I saw a different one who said she was happy for me to go the full 14 days over before inducing - thank god - as I want to avoid induction if I can and as i have tried just about every other form of induction known I don't think this baby is ready to come out yet!!

So please send positive mental contraction energy so that I can have this baby in the midwife led unit in a pool thank you very much!!

I might add that they are keeping a very close eye on me but as all vital signs for both me and the baby are absolutely fine - they seem happy too. It is still kicking away like mad and the head has been engaged now for ages so hopefully not too much longer. To add to the list of induction suggestions here is what I have tried so far (should make you laugh!) I might not add all at once!

  1. Sex
  2. Hot currys
  3. Long walks
  4. Pineapple (eating it!)
  5. Reflexology (weekly sessions for the past month)
  6. Clary sage aromatherapy oil
  7. Homeopathy remedies cauloph. etc
  8. Nipple tweeking (ouch)

Any further suggestion would be welcome but I reckon I'm just going to pop when I least expect it!!

I'll keep you informed!

TLB, if you are really fed up my midwife suggested (although I don't think she was supposed to ) castor oil. Drink some mixed with orange juice. It started me off within 12 hours of taking it.

SueDonim · 10/05/2002 12:29

But beware of castor oil - it can give you bad cramps and diarrhoea - not what you want when in labour! Good luck, tlb!

batey · 10/05/2002 12:44

Give cleaning the floor ago, being on all fours doing something mildly physical really worked for me. My sister went the full 14 days over with her 2nd. On day 13 she had accupuncture and a massage and a good talking to, as it let it happen, the babies got to come out one way or the other ( she'd had v. bad 1st delivery and was v. scared 2nd time), she was also told to get some rest as your body wont go into labour unless it has enough energy. She did all of these and went into labour the next morning, with a "text book" delivery. All the best.

Hurray!!!

One beautiful bouncing baby boy - william - born 3.37am on Sunday 12th May in the pool just as I wanted in the Grange in petersfield - fantastic - he was a healthy 8lb9oz (ouch) but no tearing either - ecstatic mum!!

I had a bad couple of days rooming in as I got the breastfeeding wrong and ended up with some extremely sore nipples - have now sorted that one out (castor equi. cream from Helios homeopaths in tunbridge wells)

I'm not entirely sure if anything I did helped - sex funny enough might have had something to do with it as well as that bloody great big pineapple I ate too!

I started contractions on Saturday morning but was unsure if they would turn into anything so carried on as normal we even went to a local point to point with a picnic as it was such a beautiful day - I was warned by several people not to back any winners just in case! I did back one though!!

We did actually have to leave after the 4th race and called MIL and went in at c8.30 only to be told I was 1cm!! Could have died on the spot !! Then I had a contraction and the midwife decided no to send me home and by midnight I was in the birthing pool and 3.5 hours later he was out amongst much huffing and puffing, four letter words and some good bellowing!!

Thank you for your advice we did everything we could and the main thing at the end of it is he is safe and healthy.

No doubt I'll be on this board soon enough requesting more advice about sibling rivalry etc!!
