Good contractions was gearing up for hospital and m-i-l arrived etc then at 2am this am I took off the tens machine and went to slepp nothing doing and nothing since! - To say I am pi**ed off is an understatement

PLease does anyone have any tips??

Poor you, TLB. This is a non medical suggestion, and you've no doubt heard of it before, but penitrative sex is said to help, isn't it? If you are feeling up to it, it's worth considering...

TLB · 26/04/2002 12:25

its one i've considered but not sure on a practical basis how to carry it out with mil and no. 1 in the house!! - a offputting!!

up & down stairs, lobster (same hormone as sex!), homeopathic stuff (can't remember the name, will try and find nct notes later), raspberry leaf tea, squatting on bucket with pillow on top of it...... That's all I can remember for now. I was 12 days late and the lobster did it for me - much easier than sex! good luck

Cairistiona · 26/04/2002 12:27

tigermoth - it's obviously some time since you were 40 weeks pregnant!

Sorry TLB - no tips - but good luck.

pupuce · 26/04/2002 12:35

Caullophilium is the homeoptahic remedy.
Up and dow the stairs is a good idea as well.
Baby doesn't seem ready...

YumMum · 26/04/2002 12:46

I used Rasberry Leaf Tea Extract (tablet form at Holland & Barrett) although the liquid form is supposed to be better - this is a natural remedy to start labour - it really worked for me!!!!! Hope this helps.

sniksnak · 26/04/2002 17:13

My friend swears by having her nipples sucked by dh - the body releases oxytocin, the synthetic version of which is what's used to induce labour. Have fun...

ScummyMummy · 26/04/2002 17:45

It's very generous of you to loan your dh out to suck other women's nipples, sniksnak

batey · 26/04/2002 18:09

Cleaning the floor did it for me 2nd time around! Being on all 4's is supposed to get the baby in the right position. Lots of Luck.

TLB · 26/04/2002 19:50

I'll give the stairs a try - out of lobster but perhaps I will get dh to suck nipples whilst on stairs?!

Am bathing in Clary sage and taking caullophyllum(sp) still not a dickybird - obviously doesn't want to come out yet...

I tried everything, but have to admit the only thing that made a difference was sex - sorry TLB!

pupuce · 26/04/2002 21:03

Sex and nipples do get the hormones working - that's why it is recommended.... but not always possible

Mooma · 27/04/2002 12:36

Any luck, TLB? Thinking of you

WideWebWitch · 27/04/2002 12:39

Remember being told by midwife "hot bath, hot curry, hot sex" TLB, hope baby is on it's way, thinking of you

sniksnak · 27/04/2002 16:49

LOL Scummy! Only if I can watch.............

sniksnak · 27/04/2002 16:49

LOL Scummy! Only if I can watch.............

sniksnak · 27/04/2002 16:49

Can't believe I just said that, let alone twice.

TLB · 27/04/2002 18:21

I can't believe how smutty this is becoming!!

Thank you for all your advice

Still no sign despite 'interesting' sex this morning (poor hubby!) - my midwife did another sweep this afternoon plus long walk - plus going up and down stairs!! No sign as yet - this is getting ridiculous - my midwife can actually touch the babies head it is so low!! - I'm worried if I sneeze....

I'll let you know!

tigermoth · 27/04/2002 18:45

TLB, if you think sneezing might do it, how about laughing? This evening, put on a comedy videon have a hot curry, a willing husband nearby, and don't hold back.

tigermoth · 27/04/2002 18:47

video! spelling!

TLB - I would give it all a rest at the moment. You'll be exhausted by the time you go into labour which realistically could be another 10 days!!!
Perhaps it will creep up on you if you ignore the possibility for a while. It's a bit early to be having cervical sweepings too if you are only a couple of days late. Will not do anything if you are nowhere near labour.
Hope something happens for you soon before your dh gets exhausted too - mind you do they ever

TLB · 28/04/2002 20:06

Mears - my midwife seemed more than happy to do sweeps and am having a hot curry tonight.

Have to admit have calmed down since thurs/friday when everything seemed so desperate. I was in the mind set of first labour was a stop start but it only stopped for half a day! and that second labours were quicker!!

It is easier said than done to ignore what should be happening and praying for every twinge to be the ONE. But at least I think I am getting better as the days wear on..

To cap it all this is my only way of communicating with people at the moment as I have now lost my voice!! (for the second time in 6 weeks I might add)

And also it doesn't bloody help when the phone is now ringing non stop with 'well-meaning' friends ringing up for a 'chat' as in have you had it yet?

We now answer the phone "No not yet" or in answer to the question we usually respond - "I knew there was something I forgot to tell you.." I don't care if it annoys them, as friends they should know better!!

Anyway - just sounding off a bit sorry but i feel better!!

My overdue friend put a message on her answerphone that went 'No, I haven't had it yet. If you want to talk about anything else, please leave a message' and screened all her calls on answerphone!! A brilliant idea, I thought.

Dear TLB,
I had slow labour for two weeks, it drove me mad stopping and starting at the most inconvenient times. Labour started fully whilst my husband and I had a good dance in our front room to Curtis Mayfield and the Carpenters. DS was born 36 hours later on his due date the 4th of July.
Good luck, I am getting quite emotional, must go and have a peep at ds sleeping.
