Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

Nothing to update really, still the same as before, honestly I am not getting my hopes up this time, but I think I am going to have the sweep, like I said if nothing else, I will feel like I have done all I can then.

The baby feels really really really low today, when I walk I can feel him resting on my hip bones, it isn't very comfy!

God I love MN, where/who else can I turn to to make me smile at a time like this? LOL

You lot are great

I secretly want you to have this baby on Saturday as that's my ds's first Birthday so you are allowed to go into labour properly on Friday night!

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 15:05

SATURDAY????????

The baby had better be a good 4-5 days old by then!!

I'm telling you this baby is coming on 25th if you like it or not!

MKG · 20/11/2006 15:09

NJ,

You need to have a talk with this baby and tell him/her to make up his/her mind. We here at MN can't take the stress of this anymore.

When he/she grows up you can tell him/her that not only were you waiting anxiously, but an entire web forum was too.

I wonder what your first words to this baby will be. When I was pregnant with ds he gave me the worst heartburn, I suffered for 9 months. When they placed him on my chest, I didn't say the typical "he's so beautiful", "oh we've been waiting for you". I looked at him and said, "So you're the one gave me all the heartburn"

I can imagine your first words to this baby will be, "You're finally out", "You're doing extra chores for this when you're older", or "You're going to spend extra time in Time Out for this"

Stay cheerful, and remember that this baby will come out eventually.

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 15:16

Believe me I have had very stern words with him already, infact perhaps I should try being nice I might have scared him too much to come out!!

Ledodgy, I hadn't thought about the date on Saturday actualy, but the 25th is the original due date I came up with, the scan put my due date at the 29th, so I have had to revert to them for the purpose of the homebirth, but in my mind the 25th is my true due date!! LOL

ledodgychristmasjumper · 20/11/2006 15:17

See I told you and it's easy for people to remember as it's exactly a month before Christmas.

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 15:22

God that is scary, I really should start getting ready for christmas, normally by now everything is ready down to the very last detail, this year, it has all gone to pot a bit!!

OP posts:
ledodgychristmasjumper · 20/11/2006 15:23

I'm the opposite, last year I was all prepared because I knew the chances of me getting much done after ds was born were limited. This year however I have done nothing!

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 15:27

I'm not too worried, normally I have had to sort out the decs by now because we usually put them up on the 1st Dec (I know it is early, but DS loves it, and so do I!!) but we are having a real tree this year so we can't put them up that early, the presents can be sorted on the intenet if needs be, I have got a few stocking fillers and a couple of little presents for DS, but no where near enough for him, and none for anyone else.

No idea what to do for the baby this year, I think we are just going to get some small rattles/teddy type toys, mainly just so they can be wrapped up and opened (by DS!!) just to show him that Father Christmas does come to every child. I expect you are looking forward to this year with your little one, it will be almost like a first christmas again!

ledodgychristmasjumper · 20/11/2006 15:29

Yeah I am looking forward to it this year mainly because dd is now 3 and in pre school so realises what it's all about properly for the first time. I love Christmas and it is lovely having a newborn at this time of year.

Ilovemyboy · 20/11/2006 16:11

Hi NJ

I don't know if you remember me but we were chatting about our BH's the other week.

I check in every day and am surprised that your little one hasn't appeared yet.

My EDD is Thursday. I have a mw appt then and may ask about a sweep but don't know whether they will. On what grounds would they refuse to give me one? Have you an idea?

Have just spent an hour dancing round the living room (yes, on my own) to Diana Ross because it is too cold to go outside for a walk. I did some squatting in the vain hope that my waters would break but nada!

Trying my hardest not to get fed up. Sick of nipple twiddling and RLT.

largeginandtonic · 20/11/2006 16:14

Lulu have just baked adelicious carrot cake fancy a slice? You too NJ good energy for labour. Wouldnt it be nice if we could do that, share our cake and make each other tea.

Where do you live lulu perhaps you could be my doula in may and i could feed you carrot cake for real. I always make cakes for the midwives to have while im in labour, its a bit of a ritual now. As well as cleaning the bathroom incessantly so im not shamed when they arrive! Quite hard work having a home birth actually

lulumama · 20/11/2006 17:16

i live in merseyside!!! bet it's a long way from you ! how kind !

i'd love some cake! and a cup of tea, if its not too much trouble!

xxx

largeginandtonic · 20/11/2006 17:32

Oh bugger im in Portsmouth, about as much chance of you making it as my Dh.....

I will have to eat all the cake myself

Largeg&t passes some carrot cake and tea over to lulu and NJ who has gone quiet?! Still not excited.....

lulumama · 20/11/2006 17:44

there is time for you to move house g&t!!!!

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 18:54

No need to wonder, still nothing, can you believe today is a day that I have actually tried to keep myself busy, looking after DS, making the house tiday after the weekend, and avoiding coming on MN, and this is still about the 10th time I have sat down to check everything is still going smoothly!!

Don't know what to do tomorrow, as I said I have the midwives in the morning at the surgery, but if DS has another bad night (he is no better yet) there is no way I can drag him down there, and DH has a meeting tomorrow that he could get out of if I was actually having the baby but not really convienient just for a check up... mmmm decisions decisions!!

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 19:00

megandsoph · 20/11/2006 21:40

Hiya NJ

hope your wee man is better for tomorrow DD1 is cronic tonight a roaring temp, it is the season

Well girls am not to far either, I'm 7 miles away from Blackpool whoo a loada northern birds yeyyyy!!

Well Lulu if I decide to totally indulge in a doula this time would you consider poppin up here?? lol If not then at least you will be on here.

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 22:43

Oh no, it is horrible when they are ill. I don't know if it is the calpol keeping his temp down, or if he has fought that part off, but he was a little better this evening, just see how he is overnight now. Normally when he gets a cough and a cold, he just gets on with it, but this has really knocked him for six.

I must hold my hands up as well, I am not a northern girl, my DH is from Bolton, but I was raised in Bedford, so I am a southerner at heart.

OP posts:
megandsoph · 20/11/2006 22:54

NJ have you tried medised with DS?? I find it works better than calpol, as well as paracetamol it has something in it to help little ones sleep.

hope I didn't offend I love you southern peeps too hehehe I have to DP is a londoner with the accent and all.

So hows the other little one in your tum tonight? still being a monkey I take it??

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 23:07

No, I've not tried medised, he has been having calpol and tixylix, with some olbas oil on a tissue in the room, now the tixylix has kicked in a bit, I find it can take up to 24 hours for it to make a difference, but then it does it's magic and he feels much better. By the time he went to bed his temp was well down, obviously still full of a cold and generally feeling low, but he wasn't as bad as last night. If he stays asleep all night and his temp is still down in the morning he can go back to school, if not it will be another day of the poorly blanket and kids DVD's!

And his little brother has been up to the old tricks, contractions every now and then, sometimes they seem to pick up a bit, only to slow back down again a while later. I was hoping the show this morning meant things would have kicked off once and for all by now, but no such luck, probably a good thing really if DS is going to be down for a couple of days with this bug he has.
